  • This is my first time using this machine. the claim owner has had it for years and was never taught how to use it. so I took it on and researched how and figured it out. this was fun and scary all at the same time.

    Distillation of the mercury. Instrumement and dental mercury is generally tripple distilled. ❤

    Did you go to your doctor afterwards to see if your body picked up some mercury into the blood? You do touch a lot of the items used and being retorted afterwards. Doesn't look to safe. You sharing if this was safe enough, as a guinea pig would have helped your UA-cam community

    For the love of god ALWAYS wear protective gloves when working with mercury. Never cringed so much watching a video in my life. Please think of your health.

      Elemental mercury has terrible absorption rates through skin. Respiration is the main way you get mercury poisioning, or eating it (touching stuff youre gonna eat without washing hands, etc), but mostly breathing it while doing things like gilding or refining gold. As long as you're using a respirator and not eating it you should be fine.

      Liquid mercury metal does not pass through intact skin and is poorly absorbed in the human body anyway. It's the mercury vapors and the mercury compounds you should be worried about.

    Would this work for dental amalgam to extract the silver from the mercury?

    • @christopherleubner6633
      @christopherleubner6633 Місяць тому

      Yes it does. They actually make machines called amalgam separators that do this so dentists can reuse the mercury and recover the gold and silver.

    You could season the bottom of your bottom of your vapor chamber with borax once borax has been heated and coach the bottom of your chamber nothing can penetrated and you can't heat it up enough to get it out this coating allows the gold to form a nice smooth bead and instead of the cotton cloth going down into the cup all you have to do is have a tube that dips down into the water of the cop then the Mercury would flow straight into it no exposure to air and you will retrieve a hundred percent of it at the bottom of the cup

    Another way to increase the solubility of your fine gold into the Hg (some placer gold gets a light coating of sulphates on it while in the creek) is to clean your concentrates in a light nitric acid solution.You should use a fume hood if possible, gloves and safety goggles) If you have your black sands in a gold pan, cover them with water and carefully add the nitric until you get just a few small bubbles coming up. Swish it around for a bit and decant it, then rinse it well with clean water before adding the Hg . I always work over a decent size catchment tub with a bit of water in it to contain splashing from any spill that might happen. I've found this process affords a dramatic improvement in the mercury's affinity for the gold. This is how I've done it, but due to the danger of working with Hg and acid I don't recommend working with them all.

    Your amalgams arent made correctly. Try using a shammy to squeeze the mercury out leaving the amalgam behind

    Thank you for sharing, it's best to wear thick rubber gloves, if you have any cut of any kind or paper cuts on your hands the mercury can go into your bloodstream. Micron BB mercury you can barely see with your eyes , size of needle pin head. Always use a trusted distilled mercury from your supplier. I'm learning the same, never rub your eyes after touching the mercury & yes wear that gas mask while retorting. Take no chances is what I'm Saying 🌝

    I need a retort! I've found a bunch of mercury sniping for gold, and have a ball of amalgum to deal with. I also want one just so I can say "Oh well allow me to retort!" like Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction!

    Great Video Elley! I was thinking (which is quite often a pointless excercise)...I wonder if you couldn't make some cotton tubes by cutting the fingers off of a cotton curators glove?
