Even though the game itself wasn't for you guys, I thought you really liked and appreciated the board design for Through the Ages? Expected it to make the list. Tzolkin was a no brainer though!
I feel the lab from Alchemists..deserves a mention at the least.. Though most of the games has some thing to hide.. The lab really makes you feel like you are really working.. in it..
I'm surprised that Claustrophobia made it to the list, but not Mechs vs Minions. They are both modular boards, but I enjoy Mechs vs Minion boards much much better, especially that volcano side!
7th Continent must be in the other category then, prolly 1st, tho. I wouldn't understand if it isn't. Still expected within this list, since the game is pleasing to look at, but it is also the whole game itself, which would fit perfectly here.
Barbarians: The Invasion is great and the volcano is awesome. I'm so glad you put it on the list. ^^ Edit: I'm biased I know, but Source of the Nile (1978) should be on this list because you draw on the map yourself with magic makers.
Oups. You predicted it. I would never put Kanban in my Top 10 board game boards. In fact this is one of the major points I disliked about this game (apart from the theme which simply isn't up my ally).
The outbreak rule in conjunction with the map is unparalleled. It's absolutely amazing. In just 2 seconds you can see what will happen 20 moves ahead with all the knock-on effects, if a lot of locations have 3 cubes, you then press your luck and with the turn of 1 card you see all those 20 things happen exactly as you predicted right away. What other video game or board game can do that? It gives the feeling, to mere mortals, of what a Grand Master Chess player must feel, but even a Grand Master playing Chess does not experiences this in under 2 seconds. Wow!. It's so elegant. Reiner Keniza, Uwe, Stefan Feld, and every other designer would love to have invented this. NOTE: My information is based the knowledge of about 1,000 games not the 120,000+ video games and board games that exist. This mechanism and board predates Legends of Andor, but I feel it works different with outbreak knock-ons, so it's unfair to compare the two. I could not be more impressed with any other mechanism and board. P.S. Your top 10 is great :), even without this.
Hi rahdo, is there any specific reason why you never reviewed Feudum? Didnt they contact you or perhaps you thought it wasnt a game for you an Jen? Thanks
haha, wow... interesting category, highly subjective, but interesting, I definitely find myself drawn to games where I enjoy the aesthetic appeal, it's part of life. peace
I don't like Legends of Andor a lot because the gameplay feels very linear and some of its mechanics don't let you play they way you want, but its board is the most beautiful I have seen in any board game. It is stunning mow much detailed it is.
Great list with many deserving titles. But I have to disagree with Legends of Andor. While the arrows are great, the numbering system is terrible. Every time something new gets placed we have to spend way too much time finding the spot because the numbers are so inconsistent.
The games that are rare to find are always expensive on Amazon. I have seen Splendor for $100.. Always check BGG market.. or any other 2nd hand sales..
I knew once you explained the video that Tzolkin would be #1
i am so predictable!!! :)
It was my prediction as well - Tzolkin was a given for this list.
clearly i should have made it #2 to throw you guys off :)
XD
Tzolkin for the win. Easily in my top ten best games. Also best board in my opinion too! Painted gears are awesome!
How is tzolkin replayable?
very!
This was a great idea for a top 10 - looking forward to the other list.

you're right, i probably should have called that one out. tbh i just forgot about it! :(
I feel the lab from Alchemists..deserves a mention at the least.. Though most of the games has some thing to hide.. The lab really makes you feel like you are really working.. in it..
Obviously not your cup of tea, but I really like the Khet board as it is completely part of the game itself as well as a very nicely crafted board
Great choices!!! Very well thought out!!! Nice work
I'm surprised that Claustrophobia made it to the list, but not Mechs vs Minions. They are both modular boards, but I enjoy Mechs vs Minion boards much much better, especially that volcano side!
the MvM tiles are really gorgeous, but there's nothing particularly interesting about them from a design perspective IMO

7C almost made this list, but not quite. i'll talk about it in the podcast at the end of the month :)

nice one!

What, no King of Tokyo? But that was a very innovative upgrade to a beer mat!
or a frisbee!
Patchistory is the 2D version of peloponnes
I think, functionally the Pandemic board is absolutely brilliant! Did that board slip your mind? It's good looking too.
its certainly well done, but i didn't think there was anything about it that was game changing :)

I'm really not a big fan of eurogames (while all my friends are, sadly) but somehow, I really like Tzolk'in. Amazing board and great game :)
I'm exactly the opposite! I'm one of the very few euro gamers in my group. We should swap. :)
:D
Hi rahdo, is there any specific reason why you never reviewed Feudum? Didnt they contact you or perhaps you thought it wasnt a game for you an Jen? Thanks
was super excited for it, until i saw how much direct player conflict there was, so i ended up passing on it :(

What about Amerigo by Feld?
great game, but not a particuarily awesome board imo...
Thanks Radho !
Technical Question : what is your microphone for this video ?
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00YBFT4TI :)
rahdo Thanks ^^
Could you turn on the auto subtitles?
no there's no way that i can force subtitles to appear unfortunately
7th Continent deserves a place

What city are you in now, Richard?
faq.rahdo.com #22 is an ongoing update for our moving misadventures :)
I would say Scythe deserved a spot here; those player boards are brilliant
perhaps... i've never played it :)
Kanban is 200 dollars on Amazon. Yeah no.
plenty of folks selling it for reasonable prices on bgg: www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/109276/kanban-drivers-edition/marketplace/geekmarket
