I still think the best small point guard is a version of Isiah Thomas with just more three point shooting. But you are correct he was the prototype for many years.
Isiah Thomas could do it all . Jumper, one on one, defense, rebounding, running the offense on the break or half court, athletic and making the big plays . The best ever;
Stats-wise, Isiah Thomas peaked in the early to mid 80s, which is kind of interesting. Well before he won any rings........his best scoring season was 1982-83 and his best assists year was 1984-85.....he never averaged over 20 points again after 1987, and he never reached double digits for a season in assists after 1987 either.
That's because Detroit changed their pace and usage PLUS his minutes were reduced because of their 3 guard rotation. In his 2nd season, Isiah Thomas led the NBA in minutes played.
He was injured a lot from 87-92 , he had very minor ticky tack injuries from 86-87 but then from 88-93 he began taking more punishment and serious injuries started to come along
@@andresdelportillo9917 from 1983-1990 he missed I believe 9 games in that span and 2 were because of a suspension. He was one of the most durable players of his era
@@123slasher.16 he played through his injuries which is why he had a shortened career, dumars played well alongside grant hill and the rebuilding pistons imagine had zeke been there to mentor grant hill on the court
He defined what for a long time was the benchmark for a small point guard. These type of games are a testament.

Joe and Isiah were the perfect combo

@@andresdelportillo9917 well if Isiah never gets injured, we wouldn't have gotten Hill because we would have not been in the lottery.
