After telling this joke on live TV, Stan Boardman was never seen on TV again on a live show.- this was the mid 1980s and a live TV show going out about 8pm. Just shows how much times have changed in the UK. Today, no-one would bat an eyelid!
Des O'conner was a crooner and comedian who sold a shed load of LPs. Famous for being mocked by Morecombe and Wise on their show. Where the running joke was not to let him sing.
Des O'Connor had his own chat show in America for a while in which he interviewed Hollywood's stars of the Golden Era who often wouldn't travel as far as the UK, so many Americans will have heard of Des and will remember him.
Hey🐿️👍 a classic Stan gag, funny as and I believe he got into trouble for that with swearing or something even eluding to it was deemed only to be used after 9pm(watershed we'd call it) this I think was before that and a big no no back then. Nice one buddy cheers✌️
It’s an old joke some attribute it to the legendary pilot Douglas Bader, who despite having both legs amputated flew against the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain.
Stan's brother was killed in an air raid on Liverpool during WW2 ...... all the time I saw him on telly making jokes about 'The Geeeermans' I never knew that !
Mark Thomas, if you watch Blitz Cities which was a BBC series he tells the story in the episode about Liverpool. ua-cam.com/video/Jer8O_3DqK8/v-deo.html
Poor old Des he also had Freddie Starr and the actor Oliver Reed on this show which was going out live, Des asked Oliver about his tattoo as he'd been told it was in an unusual place, thinking his backside, nope Olly told him in no uncertain terms right where it was, Fred was well Fred and Brian Penders was in the directors box with a broken leg having kittens, there's an interview something or might have been An Audience With Des and he said exactly what happened that night, needless too say recorded the shows after this
They did bomb our chip shops, which was a great annoyance. But near me they bombed the one 3 streets away, but that was ok as it wasn't very good. If you believe that, I've got some other stories for you.😄
There was a German international footballer some years ago that worried the presenters who had to give running commentary of a match Kuntz was his name you can imagine for yourself how well that went…Not sure if Shearer was ever all over Kuntz.
There was a fuss when Baddiel and Skinner, I think, printed a team photo of 11 players with their backs to the camera all wearing a shirt with Kuntz written on it.The implication being all Germans are…😂
Well young Squirrel, you may need to chance the title. Fokker is an aircraft company from the Netherlands, while the fokkers Stan was on about were Focke-Wulf. You've mixed up your fokkers!
He was a guest on Nigel Farage show and tried to tell it, most have heard variations on it. He s brilliant, still working at 85. He did crack some good ones.
Saw a program with Stan in talking about him being a toddler in the war, a girl 14 used to help baby sit him and his brother, one day they went in an air raid shelter along with Stan’s Mum, it had a direct hit, Stan was sat on the girls knee, she died and so did Stan’s brother 😢
Suicide on national TV...Stan was never seen again...Even Des was just looking up to the sky and must have been thinking 'what is this guy doing?'...Des had heard the joke before...he knew Stan was committing suicide...I saw it at the time of broadcast...
This was a very popular joke amongst comedians in the 1970's. Stan Boardman told it, Jim Davidson told it and countless others. Not really sure who wrote it originally
Question; do I attend Saturday evening mass while p****d or not? Des O'Conner was a nice bloke. Fokkewulf was a Dutch company. The last picture I saw of Noddy Holder he resembled Albert Steptoe...
Focke-Wulf was a German company. The similar-sounding, but different, aircraft builder, Fokker, was founded by Anthony Fokker, who wasn't related to (Heinrich) Focke of Focke-Wulf. Interestingly, Fokker was also a German, and started the Fokker business in Germany before transferring production to Holland.
Here is a longer recording of the Joyce Grenfell sketch, but it’s not as good because it’s not with a live audience m.ua-cam.com/video/LkjmHpJsy1c/v-deo.html
Sadly Stan Boardmans career went down hill after this cus some no good no sense of humour morons complained saying he was swearing.. THE TOSSERS.. Very funny man
True, but he was referring to _Focke-Wulf,_ a German aircraft manufacturer established in the early 20th century by Heinrich Focke and Georg Wulf. Interestingly, the Fokker company was founded at around the same time in Germany by a German named Anthony Fokker (no relation to Heinrich Focke), but then relocated to Holland.
Oh for the likes of Stan to be allowed on TV People like Stan actually tells proper jokes In these troubled times now and again really good to have a good laugh Well done Stan, thought Des was sublime
I remember watching Des and guests back in the 80’s Stan telling ‘THAT JOKE’ Watching again i have laughed that much I have bellyache Today no one is allowed to laugh You might upset gen z /snowflakes and the comedians back then would be called sexist, misogynist or racist 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴
Back in the day, when Saturday night TV was still worth watching.

Meanwhile Savile, Harris and Hall were allowed to continue their seedy careers.
@@araptorofnote5938 Indeed they were
This was a live early evening show when it went out, and because of this joke they made it a prerecorded show for the rest of its run!
He didn't work on TV again again after this.
I think he was only banned from live broadcasts
@@jhibberd6290 yes you are right.

One of the best comedians we've had stan boardman great stuff
I love the look that Stan throws towards Des when he first starts telling the joke. 🤣
Brilliant remember watching that.

Hey squirrel……the Germans , the Germans , Stan Boardman was so left of centre, and is a bloody funny Fokker…and a scouser 👍😂🇮🇲❤️
I was watching this at the time nearly bust my sides.
I was as school with Stans niece Paula Schwenn and met him a few times. Top bloke.
He got banned off itv for doing that joke
Still the funniest thing ever shown on British TV.
I remember watching it live.
Brilliant, just absolutely brilliant!
Haha that was funny as hell 😂😹🤣♥️🐿️
Funny Fokker!! 😆🇬🇧🇺🇸
Meet the Fockers

He actually got banned after that joke

True. To be fair he knew what he was doing.
No he wasnt, check out his IMDB page, he did loads of tv after that

The germans even bombed chip shops in Dublin , the north strand to be exact.

The best fokking joke ever
Here is another Joyce Grenfell sketch m.ua-cam.com/video/clOdyzP9fcw/v-deo.html
This was doubly funny, because back then on UK t.v., that word was not really allowed (as was any bad language).
Best joke ever

Kinda ruined Stan's career tho

This is the broadcast that destroyed Stan Boardman's career. I didn't find it funny then and its still not funny now.

I remember watching that interview live. Clever and funny. Strict censorship on ITV back then. Especially the F.
