You just stumbled upon the most seductive and attractive rabbit hole in ALL music….Metallica’s 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘. For 43 years they have dominated the world of music…first becoming the greatest underground band ever and years later the greatest band in all music
@@stigpetersen9701 it is quite a rabbit home but the rest of what you said is completely debatable, a lot of us original Metallica fans that saw them as an underground band are not really fond of anything past And Justice for All. And then there's a lot of new fans that came with the Black album. But the most debatable thing you said was greatest Band in all music... I find that to be not even be a semi true statement. But everybody is entitled to their opinion.
Metallica's reputation was growing through word-of-mouth with every record they made; this song is from their fourth album ...And Justice for All, and this really pushed their career to the next level, because this was the first time they ever made a video for MTV. Metallica was suddenly on millions of people's televisions around the globe.
The last lines really explains it all Landmine has taken my sight Taken my speech Taken my hearing Taken my arms Taken my legs Taken my soul Left me with life in hell
This was Metallica's first song to have an official music video, and it really explains the song perfectly. I recommend checking it out. Some of the comments correctly pointed out that it's the band's interpretation of what was going on in the mind of a completely debilitated soldier who was being kept alive despite having no prospect of recovery. Nice reaction. Looking forward to checking out more of your upcoming videos.
I saw them live 3 times and they kicked my ass every time. I saw the Master of puppets ,And Justice for all and the black LP they're incredible live. For whom the bell tolls or and Justice for all are bangers too. Great reaction and Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
@@travelinman92 i’m glad he didn’t watch it on the first listen but it does draw some of the missing stuff together after you’ve already heard this song.
The song is about a WW1 soldier who gets blown up by a landmine...it didnt kill him but he loses all of his limbs, hhis face, his sight and his hearing and is totally isolated from the world...trapped inside his mind...
They were pretty much underground until this album, which is their 4th. This song was their first music video and opened them to wider audience through MTV but was still not played very often on only a few select mainstream radio stations (mostly due to its long run-time). Then when their 5th self-titled album dropped (AKA The Black Album), it was literally everywhere. Every song that dropped was a radio hit as people tastes were changing from glam/pop rock to the heavier side of stuff by this time. Been a fan myself since about '86.
They actually sold millions of records with the first 3. but they refused to make a video for MTV which was unheard of at the time. Got huge after this video though.
The video is a must watch. Master of Puppets is an anti drug song. You should have the lyric version up. It starts with the drug talking to the user. It goes into a melodic instrumental. That’s the user in his euphoric state. Then it goes into a thrash metal solo indicating he’s coming down ( spinning out of control ) Then the user is pleading to the drug. Then the drug is back at the user. Incredibly written! Then there’s Creeping Death. Which James Hetfield wrote after watching the Ten Commandments. Lyrics for this one should be considered as well.
Metallica was the first thrash metal band to hit the mainstream in album sales with their 5th album called the Black Album. before that metalheads listed to them any other metal bands but they were the first to go mainstream and that is why some music snobs attack them.
Statements like, "Metallica's music saved my life", maybe a dime a dozen, but nothing can be more true. My teenage years were rough to say the least. I'm lucky to have grown up during their formation. I know this is cheesy, but Their music spoke for me, at a time when I felt I had no voice.
You should check out The Four Horsemen Live from Seattle 89.. Metallica at this show was out of this world so fast and Aggressive.. you will love it. Welcome to the Metal family man.
Yes! It's true, Metallica was never played on mainstream radio at the time. This was during the MTV years. A time when you weren't considered a real band unless you had a video on MTV. Metallica avoided all that. They didn't go for the "glam". They played their music the way they wanted to and drank as much alcohol as humanly possible. Their instrument proficiency, formulation, and goals were unmatched. You can't fake what they did and still do to this day, over 42 years later
That was like Metallica's first album and then on the way home their tour bus they got an accident and your lead guitar player died you can do some research on it
MD watch the music video on your own time it shows every single detail to this track. This is a masterpiece. I didn't know the first time I watched, I had to run for kleenex. Thanks for the reaction.
That's how to experience it ...sometimes the video is distracting. I'm much older but didn't watch many videos. I was always busy and listened to the radio and bought the LP if I liked a song 😅 Ahh the good ol' days 😂
What's up my friend? Check out Master of Puppets, every bit of a banger as fade to Black. And if you want another banger off of this album Frayed ends of Sanity... Won't disappoint.
This is the best way to truly appreciate this song by reacting to the studio version first. THEN, watch the official video. The official video is very distracting. You're often pulled away from the song. You try to listen to the song and the people talking over it, at the same time.
t's a common misconception that Metal is demonic, so don't feel bad. Many believe, including myself, that the powers that be wanted to shut the Metal genre down, for speaking out. They'd zoom in on Metal or Rock artist's with songs about magic, or the occult, but these songs were an examination, not an endorsement. They also tried blaming, and suing bands for all kinds of ridiculous things. Although, I don't know about the Black Metal genre.
One of my favorite Metallica songs for sure
The story was from a movie called " Johnny Got His Gun " the video for this song show parts from that movie 🎬

Metallica are the masters of intros, outros, and transitions.
And puppets
💯 agree 🤘🏽

This is one of the few songs where the official music video adds to and fills in the story in a literal way
Hell no! The official video totally distracts from the music! Wish it had never been made! My .02!

I totally, 💯 percent agree.

One thing about this that always bothers me is that you can clearly hear a helicopter during the intro. A WW1 helicopter? 🤔
you should listen to the day that never comes live in Nimes 2009...very beautiful

It's crucial to listen very carefully to the lyrics of "Master of Puppets." It's a message song whose lyrics are subtle.
Yeah, subtle like a brick
@@mztweety1374 If you pay attention, sure. But many reactors struggle to correctly understand the message.

Master of Puppets is an Amazing song, the whole album was next level. Disposable Heroes, Master of Puppets, Battery, Welcome Home, any of them.
They actually sold millions of records with the first 3. but they refused to make a video for MTV which was unheard of at the time. Got huge after this video though.
Metallica's very first video.. I due believe it won them a Grammy!?

You should watch the Video version of the song.

You should really watch the music video for this as it's probably one of the most powerful music videos of all time.

Orion. Master of Puppets. Unforgiven. Nothing else matters.
Those songs along with One and Fade to Black should give you the base for Metallica music.

Sorry, no! The video is horrible!
@@travelinman92 That's sort of the point.So's war.
It's better to hear the track alone, first. The video is fantastic and a piece of art, but it's very distracting.
The video hit’s really really hard. War is Hell …the aftermath is worse.
That ain't nothing you got to see the video instead of Vietnam soldier who lost his legs in battle
Happy 61st birthday to the drummer Lars Ulrich😂😂

@ 12:35 The "Demonic" label was a marketing ploy for the times
