I drive a truck for a farm that loses about a hundred thousand dollars of Corn, and Wheat, to deer a year. But I don't live there. The farm hands kill the foxes, and there are plenty of rabbits who eat the soybeans. They till about 4000 acres.

Can't believe the level of ignorance in this comment section. I can't believe some people seriously think the foxes are harmless! Admittedly they do have different personalities and there are scavengers and there are killers but I've seen first hand, year in year out, the torrent of foxes flooding to the lambing fields for an easy meal. On a friends farm a constant fox patrol through the night would be very welcome as at least 1 or 2 lambs get snatched up every night of the lambing with very clear signs of fox predation.

Prey animals have the audacity to come after livestock despite them being protected by fences, dogs, and humans. They took the risk going after guarded livestock and paid the price. Plenty of videos around of people killing foxes. I've yet to see a video of foxes killing lambs. I live in a sheep farming area and no one here has ever lost a lamb to a fox, and we have plenty of foxes here too.

+UKHunting10 I saw the lambs, yes, but how do you know they were not still-born? Foxes do a good job of cleaning up carrion which is an important food source for large carnivores and omnivores in most ecosystems.

+Jennie Lane You must not have heard the guy saying that at least one of them was too big to be stillborn, and he's right, it's hard to tell but the others could have been as well

+UKHunting10 On hill farms by far the greatest loss of lambs is caused by the combination of wet and cold weather. The farmer would do well to keep his lambs under cover in bad weather. It's easy and convenient to blame the fox rather than face the issue of bad husbandry.

+UKHunting10 living in a sheep farming area I get to talk to shepherds all day. They have never lost lambs to foxes and I see the foxes in the fields with the sheep every night. They scavenge dead ones or take a sickly lamb, no loss to anyone. A bunch of dead lambs in a hole is no proof of anything other than that the fox put them there, or did he? Are all the dead bodies in your fridge or freezer killed by you? Show me some actual evidence of a fox killing lambs....not some circumstantial rubbish.

So...It's OK to kill/murder as long as I support several charities?? Great logic. Defence attorneys, take notice. By the way, I love Scottland and its people and its Foxes. Yes, I have spent time there.
I grew up working on cattle/sheep ranches in the Western US. I killed a fair share of coyotes, a couple of mountain lions(who decided to hunt together, bad news) and a couple of old bears who couldn't hunt anymore. However, I never personally witnessed a single predator take a cow or sheep. I am certain that there has been and will be predation of domestic livestock, but the problem is humans believing they own and are entitled to every square inch of this planet and continue to encroach and destroy wildlife habitat. We did lose some animals, but the cause of death can be difficult to determine. We also had wonderful dogs that were great at protecting the herds. I know Scotland is/was famous for their sheep herding dogs, but if you are losing livestock, perhaps try a couple of LGD dogs, that have been successfully protecting livestock for centuries. There are so many good breeds out there and they can take care of any tiny little Scotish foxes.

Those dead lambs were planted by the terrier men to make the fox look like the villain.
