Really awesome turtles! I only have box turtles that I adopted. They have the run of my entire backyard. My fence is buried 2 feet underground and set in a concrete footer. We used to have a beagle who was an escape artist. Burying the fence was the only way to keep her in. She has since passed away at 18 years old.
My 9yr old son just started watching this because your Grandmom came to see his shell museum he opened yesterday in Pickerington and told him about you and how you started when you were younger. You can ask her about it. She loved his passion. He has started his own UA-cam channel as well Eevee Ocean. He has been wanting a turtle so bad but I don’t think he is ready but he will learn from here.
I really hope you get big, your content is just generally good. I honestly own box turtles myself and I came to you seeking advice and nothing but helpful stuff came my way. Actually this weekend I am going to build a turtle enclosure indoors. And start changing your diet because I was not feeding them the right things. Thank you for essentially saving my turtles!
My guess: They’re coming out of the pond likely because they are both solitary species that don’t want to be near another turtle, so they are climbing out and looking for their own pond...
During the heat snappers will bury into banks or in the mud, so if you have pebbles, gravel, etc on the bottom then it will bury on land to escape the heat and bury.
Really nice additions to your group. The female Florida Box Turtle is a sweetheart. Does look like male aggression with those white spots. Several years ago. It will take some time to recover, but it will eventually. She was housed with male Easterns, right? She is a mature female, so any babies she produces will be hybrid for quite some time. I mean, you could, theoretically, separate her for say 5 years until she began to lay infertile eggs, and then introduce a male to have pure Floridas, but the hybrids are adorable too. Bet you will get some cool colors. Snapper story. Sad one at that. I had a small snapper I had raised from a hatching. No more than 4 inches. I was living with my Parents in Western NC and had a two foot long Spectacled Caiman that would stay outside in the Summers. Went out to check one morning. No Caiman. Found it with the net missing a back leg, dead. Never found out if the Snapper killed and started to eat it, or it died and the Snapper caught a snack. My larger Caimans were never bothered, and I did remove the Snapper, but not the RES or SA Wood turtles that lived in there too. Never any other issues. Great video. Thanks.
That Chelydra serpintina is so cute, I have a hatchling that I'm hand raising, he's perfectly handle able, he's really friendly, I love him, I can't wait to get an alligator snapping turtle.
I really love watching your videos. I don't know why but I love turtles. My husband just HATES snapping turtles the most but I think he hates all turtles. Not me! I would love to have a couple pet tortoises but am happy just watching yours! I always have been amused by soft shell turtles and how aggressive they seem. So adorable!
New sub here.. Just finished my new outdoor enclosure/wading pond for my 4 eastern box turtles. I'm in Tx near the coast and my turtles love the water. Then a few weeks ago my grandfather called me and said a wild eastern laid eggs next to his driveway. So now I have 4 eggs in the cooker. Should be done in cpl weeks!
I have found multiple gravid female box turtles on my property, and would like to relocate their eggs to a safer location than my pastures. when mowing the fields, i have accidentally killed multiple turtles. How would I find buried eggs. Ive done lots of research, and for what I can gather, i have many suitable areas for nesting. And tips for finding individual nests, or better identifiying a nesting area so i can protect that area?
Unfortunately, most box turtle species are meticulous about camouflaging their nests, even putting grass and leaves back.. leaving no trace. One thing to consider, is they love to lay next to structure. You could look around any logs/rocks/trees or stumps for freshly disturbed earth patches mid summer. In the wild.. the best way to find a nest is to catch them digging it 🤷♂️ It's nesting season right now here in SE Texas. You could mow at about 6" height early in the morning then walk the property to find any would be victims.. They dont like to be relocated but its better than the alternative. I appreciate you trying to conserve the species.
Love watching you talk about your turtles! Wish you had taken your shirt off when you dived in the pond after the turtle! You have grown up to be a very sexy young man and you would draw so many more views without your shirt on? You are a hottie! Love your beard as well. Nice and thick! You should let it fill out on your chin and moustache area as well! It adds more sexiness to your hot looks!! Just had to share how adorable you look. Send pics of you shirtless direct to me please. Would love to see your muscled body! Thanks!
How'd you get your permit to keep eastern box turtles in ohio? Been trying for 7 years now and ohio department of natural resources are still saying even if the turtles are from out of state they won't issue the permit because eastern are a concerned species. They said I could only keep 4 Midland painted turtles, 4 northern map turtles, 4 red eared sliders or 4 eastern musk turtles but no eastern box turtles. Everyone I spoke to said unfortunately eastern box turtles can't be kept legally in ohio. I need help.
I wouldn't put that snapper in with those other turtles. Your going to find a turtle with a missing head. That pond isn't big enough for more then just the snapper
@@sylviaegonzalez9981, ok well let me know. I'm 37 and have 8 Russians in an outdoor enclosure. Been keeping reptiles since 1988 & I don't feel too old to continue taking care of them.

Thank you for the informative video. All your turtles are lucky to have been adopted by you!

You take such great care of your turtles.
If you're not a marine Biologist you should be! They absolutely need people like you!
