Love Cole rapping this way, I think he only is raising his pen game by rapping w someone like Daylyt. Hope to see this level of lyricism on the fall off
I'm not going to lie, J. Cole is showing off that university education in this verse cuz that first scheme was nuts. "Turn to kick" (tourniquet), " I apply pressure like I'm trying to stop a leak, how vain is my belief" (vein) All that was clever. 🔥 🔥 Daylyt is nuts 🥶🥶. Not much I can say bout him. His metaphors and double and triple or quadruple entendres are mind bending.
It's crazy I wasn't the biggest Cole fan when he was first out. Def warmed up to him. Know he's an I'll lyricist I was wanting more creativity from him and now he doin these features it helps him grow I feel and challenges him. He can rap to a high ability and taps to the level of competition at times. But I see it now
Cole still my guy hands down, love how he and Daylyt complement each other on this track and Pi off of Might Delete Later. These type of records where you can just go in and just rap for the hell of it I love. Just a good old lyrical exercise and Cole had a great verse along with Daylyt. Would love to see an EP between them
Great lyrical breakdown, thank you for reiterating the point that it’s okay to make a great lyrical song without having to chase a hit. This has always existed in hip hop culture.
I had this on loop for a solid 45 minutes trying to nail down the lyrics. Cole’s still in a special pocket I rarely see. Daylyt cooked as always, but Cole ascended
Excellent breakdown g, will definitely check back for more videos. Another layer to that line "this aint prescribed cuz there's no doc for pain they harboring" dock, harbour
@@JenniferKitanjo no he's not bro lol stop it . Each an every Cole verse proving otherwise . Jus listen to their recent verses . This song and asap Rocky song or Kendrick watch the party die lol. It's night and day
@@JenniferKitanjo Kendrick is the greatest at making moments. He's more theatric. But even the strongest of flash and antics can't mask how special Cole's pen is. Kendrick's pen is not as crazy.
This is the best way for Cole to do a step further in his rap, challenge someone really good and try to smash the beat. I feel like The fall off will be an attempt to create a good commercial album but with complex flows and bars. in an interview Cole said that "Middle child" was meant to be on the last album but he cannot wait this long to drop it, i think cole is cooking the ultimate recipe
Bro you the only person I’ve seen that fully broken down the phone ringing differently part the ringer would be faster when it was a bill collector I’ve been itching for someone to catch that part
It’s pretty clear the big 3 beef or lack thereof is a topic that is not going away for awhile. Song is dope. Sidenote: I think Cole’s verse on “The Recipe” is one of the best things to come out in the last 10 years
Shoutout King Los for laying foundation to that "King Of Pop" reference though. "But you a smooth criminal, you can make that quarter flip And off one hit, you could turn a king to a leaner"
when I clicked on this joint I learned REAL QUICK to drop everything n lock in to catch these subtle yet genius bars they was dishing at us. Magnificent
Love this GENIUS breakdown! Think you overlooked the true start to the MJ wordplay(: Those 'Scream' and 'Halloween' lines are both horror film references which one might also refer to as... wait for it... Thrillers. Cole bodied that entire scheme 😮💨 and you did your thing here 💪🏾
Feel how you feel about Cole after the beef, that dont change he one of them when putting pen to pad. He still fire to me. Between this and Pi... I might need a Cole and Lyt EP! Dope breakdown!
"king of pop how well they spin your block" is definitely a gun/drill bar. Like the sound of popping when the niggas spin the block causes the gang to lean forward to get away from the bullets. The delivery for that bar was just crazy.
I can imagine after coles "mainstream" career is over he will evolve into rap guru status and will continue to push his pen game. Especially after hanging around daylyt and other great lyrical rappers
I think people forgot Cole gotta college degree he ain’t so called tuff but buddy is Malcom x with the raps Kendrick is Martin Luther and this ain’t picking sides but putting them together like what was gone happen but it’s for the real hip hop what’s needed right now it’s all connected but it’s a theory I guess
There’s another entendre at the end of the Michael Jackson scheme. “There’s no doc for the pain they’re harboring” Doctor / Dock (for a boat) Harboring pain / A harbor where boats would dock
Can we also highlight with the amount of multi syllable rhyming Cole did with this verse? The guy rhymed with "Plate of Collard Greens," the whole verse, as well as throwing around inner rhyming every single line.
Food for thought: Listen to Daylyt on this, if you know you know, can’t deny he didn’t pen a few drake joints…. Who’s that Judas bar directed to? He opened the song telling us…Listen 👂

I think part of the reason people keep reaching to tie everything to drake is simply based off the theme of the battle. Kendrick leaned on culture and pointed out how rap culture is lacking just that right now. I think a song like this leaning to culture, even off the title, and people tying it to Drake even when it isn’t solidifies that point.

Some bars are good but you have to set them up for the audience…there are clever ones where the setup is there but you just miss it… Section 8 vs section ate could have been setup better…I get it the way it is…but after you broke it down the reaction was like oh okay…in a rap battle it could work because the rapper would stress the meal and the ate part so the audience catches the scheme, but in an actual rap you have to keep the flow going and can’t rely on foot stomp the same way
Do you think this is Cole at the height of his powers ? I think this is legit the best he’s been rapping in his whole career & im saying that giving him the Utmost respect. Also I view him as Rap’s Kevin Durant, an all time great who if you squinted could say that might be the best player I’ve seen during my time but once we investigate we see he’s amazing but not quite the Goat of this generation.
There's nothing Cole can say in a verse that will revive his career. He claimed he would destroy any rapper and folded when he had the opportunity to back up his words. Nobody should be supporting him.
Also, the DOCKS is similar to the HARBOUR. 👌🏾👌🏾
