Was a day away from getting one of these last week and then my local shop got in an SSBS mini and hooked it up big time. Then you drop this video and now I still want a barbershop lol
I have the always-on version of this pedal, the modele B. The drive knob on yours seems to behave differently as yours has more gain on tap. Max gain on mine = ~3 o clock on yours. FYI for anyone interested out there. Great demo!
@@robdavies9478 I tried experimenting between the 2 modes of the internal jumpswitch but found that it just changes the amount of treble in the signal rather than the amount of gain/dirt
@@gaston7484 In which case that is very odd. There will always be some manufacturing tolerances between individual pots, but it shouldn't make as much difference as you're describing.
Beautiful demo. I watched another demo that sounded like garbage at any setting and you made it sound amazing at every setting. I DON"T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMORE!
....dark and murky seems to be part of their calling card. Perfectly put. I wonder though, is it worth having both this and the about 900, or does the about 900 cover what this does mostly? I think that one is at its best in lower settings.
Really nice sounding pedal, and, as usual, a great demo. I have a UA Dream ‘65 and love it. I’ve found that it works great in front of my wet effects and you then don’t have to worry too much about the issues you mentioned
Great great review. The other day I tried to boost the Barbershop with a RC booster. Holy…. what a great sound. Kind of fuzzy but with a lot of “integrity” :-)
I picked up a modele b in trade a while back. Always on version of this. Only complaint is that I need a bigger sag knob to adjust it on the fly. If I could expression that control I’d be almost all I needed from a drive pedal. I like running the sag below noon and gain around 2-3 o’clock. Like you said, dynamic, chewy responds well to other pedals boosting it.
I really appreciate that the sag control lowers the volumen. In any other pedal, every time I push the gain, I have to lower the vol. Not on this one. This is a keeper
Hello, I love how the pedal sounds, what other overdrive pedal (more medium gain) do you think would work well? Or with what other pedals do you use it?
No surprise that this demo is 100% on-point! I'm looking at a modele b for a slightly atypical setup, and I'm wondering how the volume control works on the pedal - does it mute at zero, or is boost only (unity when the volume knob is at zero)?
My favourite is the long life parametric ting but it is the only one of there’s I have, but I love there style inside and out. Think I would have fun with their feedback looper
Can anyone tell me how the Barbershop compares to the Browne Carbon? Especially preserving the low-end and and also high-treble or "touch" sensitivity?
Just obtained a Barbershop pedal and have to say the drive level is by far the lowest of all the >> 10 ODs I own. It can sound great but perhaps a bit of bias in that video when using a humbucker and UA amps that breaks up early?
I’d have to look it up to find out the real difference (I forget where I read about it) but I think the bias knob on the SSBS mini and the sag knob on the barbershop are not the same. Anyone know for sure? I had them both and kept the barbershop. Works great with a tele and a Princeton.
What's going on with the display on the BigSky? I've never seen the pulsing yellow LED or the effect bliniking, not to mention the scrolling delay time
this takes me back to the era that really celebrated "pedal overdrive" that didn't need to be an amp emulation, makes me want to plug in my DS-1
Totally agree. It's so refreshing to play something that just feels like "your tone + clipping and texture"
Best Barbershop demo by a country mile. Order placed!
Beautiful Playing and thorough video - as always. Fairfield stand head and shoulders above the rest for me - every product is a home run ✊
the intro is simply beautifull
Nice, a pedal I already have and love so I can watch without more GAS! It really is an absolutely fantastic drive pedal.
Superb take on the Barbershop! All the nuance and dynamics of the circuit shine and pair perfectly with your playing.
That opening jam was fantastic! Very intriguing pedal as well. Thanks for showing off what it can do.

Could this be because of how you have your internal jump switch set on the Modele B?

Every time Mark does a Fairfield pedal demo, I have to get it. 😂😂
Great tones man. Love the touch sensitivity. The max drive was killer!
It's always nice when the "most" setting is great.
I didn’t know it was possible but this video made me like my barbershop even more
Just bought this pedal last week. Amazing demo, thank you!
You‘re playing with this pedal is giving me „band of horses“ vibes! Like it!

That intro already sounds so great 🙌🤩👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You definitely never scrimp on any gear, and I guess that's the point. 😊 Your guitars are beautiful! I love what you're doing so much!!!
Fairfield makes such interesting stuff. Not yer same old. Great demo.
The chord at 11:16 sold me. That’s the tone
Post-rock/metal vibe is strong
Gorgeous playing! Truly inspiring music.
Love it. I was almost convinced to get a Falcon or True North Tweed, but this sag might change my mind.

Just ordered one, the sag control seems like such an awesome feature to have to add to the versatility.

Just about to get a Jam Tubedreamer 58, but I may need this first. Great Demo
love those intro tracks. killer again!

Some great sounds in there. I’m interested in getting one now!
This makes the special cranker sound like a lego pedal.
As it should. It's twice the price. : )

Awesome demo/review of the Barbershop Man.. was going to order the Greer Amps Lightspeed... now I don't know which one to get!? :)
Mark, If you had to pick this or the benson preamp which would you choose? I love your channel by the way.
I have both. This is a lot more open and transparent. The Benson has more mids and a slightly dulled treble response in comparison.

This sounds like sahb song.sensational Alex Harvey band if you don't know you should find out.

It's just a camera refresh rate thing. IRL it's not doing anything weird.
@@markjohnstonofficial Oh funny. I thought you had secret settings :)
I could hear Craig Owens do a narrative in the intro.
TBH That's pretty much all I ever want from these songs.
