    what I love about Bach and Arthur is that when one of them is explaining a concept or theory they don’t interrupt or talk over each other. it’s really lovely to see two people respect each others knowledge and interpretations so much that they let each other talk freely without interruption.

    The maze thing you were talking about is when the area of the brain called the corpus callosum is severed, the original studies you spoke about with the picture envoking emotion were done by someone called Sperry in 1968 and it was a biopsychological study that helped us realise that different sides of the brain actually compute different things but send synapses to each side to communicate. It’swhere the whole left brain, right brain (hemispheric lateralisation) idea comes from I believe! Super cool, I got so excited hearing you talk about it,I’m such a nerd for psychology studies :)

    I’ve always enjoyed the theory, as far fetched as it may be, that what happens after death, is whatever you believe will happen. Like people who believe in religions will experience their idea of the after life after death, people who believe it’s nothing and you just float away into darkness and cease to exist, that’s what happens for them.

    For the walkers crisps mandela effect, cheese and onion and salt and vinegar crisps in most european countries are swapped (in terms of colours) so where I live salt and vinegar is always blue and cheese and onion always green and I'm fairly sure lays used to be walkers before it got bought or something, because if you look at the lays packaging it is very similar to walkers, so maybe Bach saw this whilst on holiday and his brainjust stuck on it...

    43:00 that's so interesting. as someone who has studied a bit of psychology it makes me wonder, since i believe most of our actions are caused by our personality/being(? not sure how to phrase it), so the idea that there would be a reality where you would throw the cup across the room is interesting, since that feels like a character based decision.

    @jsiansy 21 день тому

    Revisiting this episode months later so I'm not sure if anyone will see my psychological ramblings, but it's a topic I love so I'll continue to talk to myself in the comments... I think the Mandela Effect (or at least many instances of it) can easily be explained by reconstructive memory theory. When people recall a memory of something, it can be distorted or transformed by previous beliefs which an individual has created based on their past experiences of similar things.
    For example with the Monopoly Man, throughout history and pop culture there has been many instances of the classic 'Top Hat, Monocle, Suit and Cane Guy' image (e.g. Joseph Chamberlain, The Penguin from Batman 1966, Colonel Mustard from Cluedo) and over time it's become a widely accepted stereotypical image of a sophisticated and affluent older man.
    Therefore, when recalling the image of the Monopoly Man (a sophisticated, affluent older man- with many other aspects of the stereotypical image, e.g. top hat and suit) your brain automatically completes the picture with a monocle, as that's what is expected from your previous experiences with this archetype.
    When you're super convinced that an image was a specific way because of previous beliefs you've held for ages, it's hard to come to terms with the fact it was never true at all.
    Pretty interesting!
