Big news! 🎉 🐴 My course on gaining & maintaining your horse’s respect is now live! If you’re interested, you can learn more here: shop.equinehelper.com/
I would love to see you do these exercises with a horse thats actually pushy so you can talk me through the what if’s. My horse is super pushy. These exercises are helpful but he just doesn’t react the way your horse does. But please keep the videos coming. At least I have hope of him improving now ❤️
Yeah. Turning and waving the lead does nothing with our horse, he’s just as likely to push through and continue going as he is to stop and stand. Certainly won’t back!
These are nice! My OTTB has become increasingly pushy. He's very playful and wants to be a big puppy all the time. He can also have a lot of pent up nervous energy and he almost looks for something just to freak out over. When i'm ground training or even riding, he will suddenly start misbehaving and basically shut down and become over reactive to any cue- throwing his head, veering sideways, backing up, crow hopping and prancing. They are mostly short arguments but sometimes he goes into a full blown tantrum. My confidence gets tested during this time and he knows it! I'm not doing anything difficult or complex with him to cause frustration or confusion and always introduce new things slowly. He's up to date in medical and has never shown discomfort to his saddle or snaffle. I will send him back to these basics and see if his behavior changes.
I don’t have my own horse but I do go to a barn to get lessons and you can ride a whole bunch of different horses and the horses that I ride love the life savers mint candys!!
Thank you Carmella, my Tennessee Walking Mare is very pushy and I needed this video. She is insensitive to a lot of things I have tried and she came from an abusive place as a broodmare. She is 17 years old and I have her foal as well.
I am beginning to ride again after 30 years and I love your videos. I am trying to work with a green horse and the advice you give is very helpful. I try my best to put them in practice, but it is slow right now and I know it will be a work in progress, not only for the horse, but for me, too. ❤
OMG i found your comment by 100% fate!! It is now exactly 30 yrs since I have ridden and am getting my Bachelor's in Therapeutic Horsemanship!! PLEASE let me know how things are going for you! It is the one great love and dream I have always had and I'm terrified but sooo thrilled at the same time. Hope things are going great for you and YOUR dream!!💜🐎💜🐎💜🐎💜
Love the series of videos you do! Not going to lie, I have watched most of your groundwork and lunging videos quite a few times. My horse in the beginning found out if was pushy, it would test my confidence. This video has helped me so much in gaining a sense of control and respect out of him. We still have a long way to go but thanks to your videos, I have the tools to keep moving forward!
I'm a new subscriber and I love your videos. In fact. I binge watch them. I just got a new mare, 16hh to my 5ft and she is a tad pushy at the lead. This video is very helpful. Thank you.
I have an ALPHA mare. She was bred & foaled on my place. Though she is a very nice ride, especially with relaxed beginners ( pressure issues?) But I will be working with her intensively to be MY horse - I am 75 with a horseworn left arm. Looking forward to your next video. Could you do one with a truly pushy horse, pretty please..? THANK YOU for your good work.
Oh man your stuff is so useful. My boy just came from the breakers and so we’ve spent the first week bonding. We also had a mad crazy storm and rain so I could do so little with him. I’m starting to lead him around his paddock and he’s doing exactly that forward thing or pushing me from behind. I’m going to practise all these things. I put him on lunge yesterday and today and after 10 minutes he’d stop and I think it’s because I need to go all the way back now and start with getting his back and wait a bit better. He absolutely adores his breaker but we’re still bonding so I think I need to almost take it from the beginning with him to develop our bond. This is so useful, spoken in plain English and easy to implement. Thankyou!
I just got a new mare and want to work on groundwork and making her respect my space - but I also really love when my horses are cuddly and rub up against me for affection or play with my zippers. Are you still able to be cuddly with a horse that you're training to respect your space, or does it have to be one or the other?
Thank you so much for making this video! I recently just got a yearling mare and she reared up on my when I was trying to lead her. This video helped a lot!
My horses Ruby and Rosie love any fruit treat but they don't like the actual fruit. Ruby's favorite is Apple flavor and Rosie's is peppermint. Thank you for all of your videos. They really help me. :)
Relate! Lover-boy has always has been the pushy horse.Morab and in incredibly good shape at his 26 years old. Agree! He’s been an awesome horse and still is! But, instinctively, tests me off and on, to be the herd leader. Totally natural for him, the horse! Thank you for your factual realness! I am pleased with your factualness! 🙀⭐️😎❤️🤔💕😎
I simply love your teaching style. So clear and understandable. I am an advanced beginner and really enjoy learning from you! Excellent videos. Thank you for all of the wonderful content!.... Oh and my MTF Gypsy Rose does not really care for treats... she prefers a neck or butt rub LOL
I work with 2 horses that either try to bulldose over me, or run circles around me when I bring them in for feed. After watching this video, and applying them, even after just the first day I noticed results. By the time both horses went into their stall their leads were loose, and they were respecting my space/lead. Thank you for the help.
I’ll have to implement some of these next time I do ground work. The lesson horse I work with is a big foodie and he’ll do some of the behaviors asking for treats or try to graze when hay or grass is around
I have 2 awesome horses that I bought out of a kill pen. My paint horse is very respectful, but my mustang mare became very pushy (my fault! She is so adorable, I slacked off and let her get away it). Love your video, clear, concise, and excellent demonstrations. I’m now torn between running outside to do this, or sitting here binge watching the rest of your videos).
Yeah see mine would rear back b/c she’s a sassy one! As far as backing her up, I’ve taught her to back up when I say “back, back”. Never used a lead to teach her this just lots a patience, pressure & release.
These videos are so helpful! You're explanations and demonstrations are awesome. I'm struggling w backing my horse up "with energy". His tendency is to rear or veer sideways when I apply more pressure. Advice?
I would like to see you work with a horse that acctially is missbehaving in the way you want to show us. It doesn't feel right to the horse to "make" your horse missbehave. I can see that your horse is confused sometimes in this video. Lovely horse and interesting things you are teaching. Thank you
Having spent most of my life on breeding farms I never met many geldings until recently. Now I know a lot of people with riding horses, mostly geldings. Nearly all of them are very pushy and I find it very annoying. I have a stallion so he's not at all pushy. His favorite treat is apples but only if they are cored and sliced. If I give him a whole apple he throws it to the ground and looks insulted. He's a funny guy and very cute.
thank u. this is help full. my 2 yr old colt also is getting bad habit of grabbing at lead , or chain if I'm using 1 for show purposes.. I am having problems getting his respect back under my control. help
Love your videos been doing everything and it works great< there is only one thing, please help. SHe would only back up if I push her chest. She is a rescued horse and a green alpha one... I wave all sizes crop on her face and all she does is lift her head as high as she can so I dont reach her LOL. She will not move I have to the point to hit her a little on her chest with a long whip and that is like nothing to her. She would step sideways most of the time responding to the push, not back. What can I do!? please I have done everything you say . I wiggle rope and then she comes towards me, wave crop, etc. I have tried like 7 times (7 days) for 20 min each. Even if I walk towards her wiggling rope, or pushing back she would not move
When you push on Tucker’s nose, do you squeeze or just push? I’ve tried pushing and if I push hard (20-30 pounds) he might take a step back. Should I really lean into this until he learns to back easier or continue using other methods?
I’m falling in love with your sweet cute Tucker!! I think your videos would be a little bit more effective if you could use a horse that demonstrated the behavior you’re trying to correct. Is that possible? With that said, I continue to watch and learn so much from you!
Thank you for the comment, Lorry! The reason I don't use other horses in my videos is that they are my clients' horses and I want to respect the clients' privacy. I do agree that it would be more effective to use a horse that struggles with a particular issue. Whenever I get another horse, I plan to document and share their progress, teaching along the way!
Do you think you could potentially include some of your clients and their horses in your videos to demonstrate some of the issues? Of course with their permission? With that said I still love your videos...how you teach, and Tucker! And I’ve learned so much!
That’s actually really helpful!!! And my horse favorite treat is everything he’s such a fatty. Random question do you know a good online shop to buy white breeches under $100?
My horse is very pushy but also missing his eye on the left side which is where I lead him from and also mount from. When I do this exercise should I do it on the side I lead from or do it on the side he can see fully?
Tucker is amazing and my dream color. He is well trained, do you think I’m ready for a horse I have been riding for two or more years. Btw I have been spooked 😱 with before. X
Tuck is a good boy! Since I don’t know your experience level, I couldn’t tell you whether you’re ready for a horse or not; however, leasing a horse is a great way to find out! Leasing allows you to take care of the horse but with the ability to walk away if you decide it’s too much. I leased many horses before I ended up getting my first horse, Pepper. Best of luck!
How do you get a horse to stand still while grooming or putting a saddle on. I have a young horse and she is stamping her feet, picking up girths or knocking over the brush box, or just walking around
do you know anything that I can do with a youngster he likes to push against the pressure even if I do a lot of pressure? and he's pretty strong when I just try to lead him I really need tips.

I LOVE Tucker lol!! His yawn should be famous worldwide!🐎💜🐎💜🐎
I don’t have my own horse but I do go to a barn to get lessons and you can ride a whole bunch of different horses and the horses that I ride love the life savers mint candys!!
omg yeah mint are definitely a favorite for my friend horse lol
I have a pushy 19 yr Appy that likes to run over/pull me when being led. I applied what I learned in this video and it worked first time! Thank you!!
Thank you Carmella, my Tennessee Walking Mare is very pushy and I needed this video. She is insensitive to a lot of things I have tried and she came from an abusive place as a broodmare. She is 17 years old and I have her foal as well.
I love the relationship you have with Tucker! He's such a good assistant! :)
you are so helpful. my quarter horse gelding is pretty pushy. thank you so much. PS his favorite treats are pepermints
I am beginning to ride again after 30 years and I love your videos. I am trying to work with a green horse and the advice you give is very helpful. I try my best to put them in practice, but it is slow right now and I know it will be a work in progress, not only for the horse, but for me, too. ❤

Just adopted my first appy and hes pushing me when leading. These tips are very helpful, thank you!
Thank You for this video! I am actually working with a pushy, disrespectful and naughty horse so it does help me.
My horse Max really loves peppermint 😁💖 Thank you for this video! I’m definitely doing some of these groundwork activities with Max.
Thank you a lot this is really going to help me with my new horse as she is young and doesn’t have very good ground manners ❤️
Love the series of videos you do! Not going to lie, I have watched most of your groundwork and lunging videos quite a few times. Thank you! This is really going to help me with a horse that I horse sit a few times a year. I’m excited to try some of these techniques.
Awww good job tucker! You are not in trouble my darling.....thank you for being so cooperative. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
My horse is sometimes pushy! So this should work on my horse!
I'm a new subscriber and I love your videos. In fact. I binge watch them. I just got a new mare, 16hh to my 5ft and she is a tad pushy at the lead. This video is very helpful. Thank you.
I'm really enjoying your videos with Tucker. You two are very cool 😂
You’re an excellent teacher! Thank you for sharing 😊

Loved this❤
As always, great video.
I'm so jealous. Tucker looks so well behaved that he'd straight run me out of Good Boys.
Excellent explenation after hundreds of videos we finally found equine helper and we are here to stay
Thank you for the quality content.

Thank you so much for this video! This helped me a lot when my horse began acting like this. You are living up to your name!
My buddy loves anything peppermint, but hates apples and apple flavoring lol Love the video!
Thanks Scarlet! Tuck is the opposite!
Great video, my pushy gelding does all these things! Tucker is such a good boy.
THANK YOU🙏 my POA is quite pushy. We both enjoy peppermints a lot.
Im working with an older gelding who is pushy and this is great
This was a great in depth video. My horse is obsessed with "Nicker makers."
Thank you! Very nice reminders

I have a difficult time with my pushy young horse and this video is really helpful thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. This is the first video that I have watched. You have really given me so much insight into my horse.
Nice,cool 😎❤ Love your videos
Thank you so much for making this video! I recently just got a yearling mare and she reared up on my when I was trying to lead her. This video helped a lot!
My horses Ruby and Rosie love any fruit treat but they don't like the actual fruit. Ruby's favorite is Apple flavor and Rosie's is peppermint. Thank you for all of your videos. They really help me. :)
😂 Horses are funny! I've met some like this. Thank you for your support and glad I could help!
I am learning so much from the videos. Thank you very much.

Your videos are very helpful! My horse will stop to eat when I’m walking him. Constantly challenging me. Can you give advice to change this behavior?
Lmao I needed this! My horse literally eats anything she’s so food motivated!!
These vids are so helpful

My horse's fav treat are peppermints

My horse loves alfalfa and molasses treats.
Nice cool
I'd really like to see these techniques on a horse that is not already trained so I can see how you deal with them.
