They also sell leather paint pens (kind of like a sharpie) that work great for this kind of thing.

This is just a tip. Use your marker on the brown side not the pink side. That way when marker slips, it slips on the wrong side.

Dried edge paint comes right off vinyl with some acetone on a q tip. Easy peasy

Be careful using Sharpie. It can run. I learned that the hard way. The Heat n Bond Ultra Hold will gum up your needle fast. The light won’t. I used to do appliqué (not machine) and learned that back then. I still use the lite when I do machine appliqué.
