Brilliant, thanks! What was the intended purpose for the minor hall? And would Utzon's original design have had better acoustics? Also, was there ever a plan for the stages to be at the other end?

The brief for the major hall that Utzon responded to, was for a combined opera and concert orchestra hall, hence with a proscenium arch and stage...when he was forced off the project, the ABC convinced to government to change the brief given to Peter Hall, to one where the major hall was an open concert hall. stage machinery already designed and made for the stage in the major hall was then junked, opera moved to the minor hall, and drama moved in under the major hall, in the podium.
Recent computer simulation of the dramatic ceiling designs developed by Utzon with the collaboration of a German acoustician have shown then to be excellent for acoustics.

Said to think by removing the balcony and made the building safe for an humans and his reward was to be ostracised by his peers and ended up dying drunk and destitute. I think a building is not worth the depression that man went through.

Hall tried to step into shoes he couldn't properly fill, and sadly his work ethic and pride in his workmanship (in the face of the continual government/departmental interference that Utzon couldn't tolerate) must have taken an enormous toll on him.
It's not really fair that anyone would blame Peter Hall for what happened when he tried to pick up the pieces after the clash of egos between Hughes and Utzon.
Hughes, on the other hand, was a self-serving and mendacious politician who was rightly booed when this was screened to an Opera House audience circa '95.
Neither architect deserves to be the scapegoat.
Surely the buck stops with the politicians, who were the problem, as is often the case.
