I should have brought up that this year the International Esperanto Congress took place in Africa for the first time due to its prevalence in many African nations. The simplicity of the language is beneficial to all learners and supersedes the simple advantages gained by being a Romance language native.

I like Esperanto, but I don't feel like it's that _great_ as an international language. Far too Eurocentric.
