I met the late Tommy Haley in 1989 when he took then Northern and Echuca league side for a training run prior to that year's grand final against Leitchville. Koondrook won that year and for me, Tommy was a football person I will never forget. His passion for the game and a insistence on one handball, one kick is still factual.
Love his comments on the Lions and how they played their footy back in the 3-peat era. "Kick long, run in numbers and through the lines. So simple its embarrassing". LOL! LOVE the comment on stats Vs scoreboard...so f---ing true. A lot of coaches will feel satisfaction out of possession stats than actually winning the bloody game.
I cried when Tommy left Richmond. He told me he was offered the job again at the start of 1982 but declined as he had given a hand shake agreement to continue to coach Collingwood. Richmond appointed Francis Bourke and and the Pies sacked Tommy shortly into the 1982 season. I cry thinking about the premierships we’d have won in the 80’s if Tommy had have taken the job
Plain to see how much KB loved him
