Part of what made NCAA 14 so legendary was progressing these dudes to 90+ overall. Putting in all that work to recruit. Getting your guys and seeing them grow. To first round picks. Seeing redshirt 69 overall freshman get above a 90 overall due to being a complete Gem. It's what added to the replayability of it. Now i slave away on recruiting and my players are locked at whatever they are. Doesn't matter if they become an all american. Doesn't matter how many awards they win. They are just permanently stuck. Meaning their on field performance doesn't matter. It just takes away from the overall experience.
@@mrlionsfan1135 development was so whack in ncaa 14 all the players developed the same and every team was a 95+ overall because all the players were just 90 overall. Revamped made it way better by adding variations. So not every player became a 95 overall.
I still have players get to 90 but it’s way more rare and it should be imo
@winstonlewis5630 There isn't really a difference. Instead of them all the players being 99 they're all low 90s.
@@Lagchunk there is a big difference if you actually look at the ratings every player in ncaa 14 would be built the exact same way because they would be no rating caps. With the caps players even if they are the same overall have different styles and abilities.
I’m in my dynasty right now with two elusive backs 90 overall that were generated.
One has shifty, side step, 360
Elusiveness 95
Hands 88
Power 80
Quickness 93
The other has no abilities
Elusiveness 89
Hands 80
Power 89
Quickness 91
If it was ncaa 14 these players would have the same ratings because the progression system is very linear. Once you get into year 6 and beyond in dynasty in the base game every top team is built the same and players skill set are all similar.
Also on the field performance doesn’t matter in ncaa 14 I’ve had 99 overall backup QBs that never touch the field
If they are performing then what does the rating matter?
The dev trait matters more to me than the actual rating imo. I recruited a 3 star ATH gem who came in as a 65 overall RB but he has a elite dev trait. He's third on the depth chart as a JR, but he lowkey is more consistent than my 97 overall RB with a star dev trait.
The dev trait is very important. I have video coming out pertaining to dev traits soon.
ATH in the game seem to be super overpowered.
@@Sillyrascal111bc all that matters in any sports video game is how fast and agile they are which most ATH players will be very good at
Facts! I recruit a lot of 5stars but my 3 stars with elite end up being over 90 overall 3rd year
@@georgealuesi8310isnt there a way to see their dev trait when recruiting them?
I just wish they showed us more of whats happening. Like in NCAA14 it tells the overall increase (+4) for example and also showed each individual stat increase. In this game you just see a green arrow next to like 4 guys, for like 5 seconds, then sim the week because there is nothing to look at
I don't kno why that wasn't so hard to implement, you're right
Yeah I agree, I wish there was more transparency on a few things.
I’m onto a rebuild now with Colorado but when I was playing with my favorite team which is Ohio state. I did a 4 year dynasty and almost none of my players went up overall at all lmao. Jeremiah Smith went to a 95, but literally nobody else progressed beyond 1-2 overalls. Air Noland has star dev, and he stayed the same overall for 3 seasons 💀 76 overall. It feels completely random, and wacky. I don’t like it
There’s alot more variance in this game than madden, and honestly, I think that’s a good thing. I was tired of the linear cookie cutter progression system in madden.
It's weird dude I changed some OLB for Oregon to MLB and he went from 74 to like 87 by the end of the off-season and then by week 1 he was like 94 I wasn't sure if I was looking at the same player or not
We’re literally the same ! My favorite team is Ohio State and I’m doing a Colorado rebuild!
I also kinda like you cant upgrade your players yourself definitely seems more immersive
Would be nice if they showed the overall gain. Along with showing season stats in any profile views of the player (like when cruising award candidates or players of the week).
I kind of agree, more randomized and less predictable
@@PoodleGaming exactly. I also noticed that just cos the starting stats aren't the greatest doesn't mean there isn't a high cap. I scouted a 4 star qb with 94 throw power but only 84 speed n it turned out he's elite dev with no grey blocks in quickness so if he develops well he could be a 95+ speed guy. Was an awesome surprise n im excited to see how he turns out. Lucky I redshirted him cos I didn't find out till his 2nd season he was elite lol
@@wscottwalters74 yer they could put it in the scouting and coach xp progress tab when u go to the next week like a "weekly training" section or something
You should be able to toggle it on and off like coach progression
A 3 star gem is golden when building a team up
As a big program, around mid season I start to heavily scout 3 stars in search of gems. Great recruits to just red shirt off rip and then end up with studs in their sophomore/junior year.
I just got a gem 3 star QB to commit to me at Kennesaw state🔥 I’m pairing him with a 5 star receiver that also committed, don’t let anyone tell you a 5 star won’t commit to a 1 star school, find one you want, make sure he’s in your pipeline state, and even if he isn’t interested, offer scholarship, send the house, and you will jump into his top 5 immediately
I also wished it showed how much XP you are getting for each game (like in madden in the progression history) and also how much XP a player gets from offseason training
I do agree, I wish there was more transparency on a few things
They need to figure out a way to have on field performance overrride any dev traits. Plus they should have weekly practices that you can focus on what you want to improve. Player progression should be something you achieve not a preprogrammed outcome
This is how madden is, and quite honestly, I prefer this system.
I think I agree with what you’re saying if I’m understanding correctly.
I think it should be dynamic a relationship between genetic vs environment - like production vs natural development with related attributes being effected. I like it having an organic element that can’t be manipulated other than on the field impacted
@@PoodleGaming I agree this way is nice once I had figured it out, I do wish you could increase the hard caps with awards like heisman. I won with my receiver but he’s hard cap at 89 and it sucks lol
@@PoodleGaming madden is the basic idea, what needs to be improved is the implementation. Or at the very least have the ability to choose between the two approaches so each player can have their own unique experience. Right now development is simply a preprogrammed outcome over time with zero input from the player.
never give up on elite dev players that have room to grow - had a RS JR linebacker go from 78 to 94 his SR offseason in two consecutive simulations to test it out. Elites are programmed to "pop" if they have the growth room on their bars. A 1* player with Elite dev trait is just going to max out really fast - it's just their rate of growth. A 5* normal player is still going to be better than a 1* "elite"
Thanks for sharing the advice!
Knowledge Increased ^
I really hope they let us manually upgrade players. Sometimes, I want to develop a player or freshman recruit in a way that fits the team. Plus, I mean, it is my dynasty, and I am the head coach, ya know?
I wish they would have let us too, but it doesn’t kind of feel realistic that people can’t just focus speed stats.
5:35 unfortunately this is more random also I can confirm multiple cases lf starting elite dev five stars as freshman, winning awards with them, and they were passed by people who redshirted and didn't play who had star dev. I do like that you just can't cheese the system like Madden to force everyone to get really good, but I am positive they don't get better faster by playing
There is a lot more variance in this game than madden, which I love.
@@PoodleGaming I agree and knowing that I can't just force the ball to someone to get them OP is a better system also
Yeah from a development perspective you don’t gain anything from playing someone as a freshman. I actually red shirt all my freshman regardless, just so they have 5 years to get a higher ovr instead of 4. Really increases the likelihood of them being drafted down the line
My elite 5 star QB was redshirted, but removed after an injury made him the backup. He didn’t go up a single overall, and dropped to 4th on the depth chart. He’s even behind a 4* star dev from the same class as him.🤦🏻♂️
@@Hunter-t5n yup I'm constantly seeing too many cases of elite players who still have plenty room on stat caps to improve but barely do. Had an elite 5* Safety and WR come and play as true freshman win awards and moved up maybe two pts after that, and after 5 years didn't improve more than 8 pts total. Same situation for elite 5* CBs I redshirted and played immediately after 1 year. But I'll have impact dev players improve by more without playing or starting ever. It's almost like it's totally random. It seems broken if an elite player barely improves no matter what the situation is
My elite wr I drafted was 92 ovr sophomore year, won the Heisman second year in a row, a 93 going into his junior year...10 points from freshman to sophomore, 1 point from soph to junior
Yeah, freshman seems to be the highest potential ceiling, with sophomore to junior still have a solid ceiling
Mannnn I put up 2,500 yards and 30 TDs with Nyck Harbor in one season. He should be a 95+ minimum the next year no matter what. He went from 82 to 86/87. 😒
He’s a sophomore, that’s why. If he was a freshman he would be so ridiculous.
@@PoodleGaming yea, I just think it should be tuned. If he had a crazy All American year this year, on next year’s game he’d be mid 90s. Production should matter even more than any trait IMO.
@Soopology yeah my Heisman winner from 78 to 82. His senior year was 88ovr and just graduated. Lol wtf
Same thing with me I broke the national college single season record in tds and Rec yards while also winning the heisman with him as a so and he went up to an 84 absolute bs
@@mikeperry7335bruh my guy was senior and didn’t even get drafted after winning the heisman
This is the exact video I was looking for the past few days . Thanks
Glad I could help
it’s so broken. Had a 76 overall freshman QB with elite development. Won the heisman with him.
His soph starting Overall is 78 lmao
Started my 77 overall freshman WR with him too. WR had 17 tds and 1300 yards receiving. His overall soph is also 78
There’s no way they developed that bad, that’s insane. Do you have the development packages for your coach?
@@PoodleGaming yea I’d share the screenshots here if I could. I have the traits and so do my assistant coaches (not sure if that matters) lol I explicitly started these guys cuz of the dev trait. I had a freshman WR with elite dev that I redshirted cuz he was low 70s and he went up to an 87
I believe a players star rating limits their overall potential. I could be wrong but that's what it feels like to me. Dev trait determines how FAST they go. And Stars determine how FAR they go
Yeah dude, dev trait is a placebo. Offseason progression is completely random in my experience
Poodle you got some dope videos bro. Keep up the good work 🦾🔥
Appreciate it!
Had no idea about the redshirt thing, good to know👍🏾
Glad it helped!
You're playing cfb25 and don't know how red shirt works 😭😭😭 that's diabolical bro
Would be so much better if you could export draft classes. Cfb and madden have different progression, it would be cool to develop a player in cfb then draft them and continue progression them with the madden system
Does changing players positions make their ovr jump an absurd amount? I changed my freshman 78 ovr WR to a 81 ovr receiving HB and after the offseason progression he’s a 91 ovr HB👀
I guess if they have the right stats for it, but I’m not sure.
In my lsu dynasty I had a huge year with Sampson and didn't use Watkins and some how year 2 Sampson only went 81 from 77 and Watkins went to 87 from 72. I think he's guaranteed to be a beast
Watkins does seems to always turn into a beast, although it’s varied based on how much I’ve used him
What’s the progression from Freshman to red shirt freshman season ?
Great video on the dev traits and progression!
Thanks man!
So. Its a jank system. I have a QB that's won back to back nattys and back to back heisman trophies. And he's the same overall as my Backup QB who is normal Dev who has never taken 1 singular snap..
I think Dev traits are more impressive for abilities than progression. I'm a master motivator build as well. Its beyond confusing. The only players i see taken big leaps in overall are Elite players. And even then if they don't start right away they'll cap out at an 83 overall or transfer out.. its my only issue with this game. Why couldn't they just use the same upgrade system as Madden? Its kinda awful because recruiting is a whole task. It's not easy at all lol. And then you finally sign the 4 star you been chasing for half the season. All to find out hell cap out at an 82 overall. Just sucks lol
Sometimes it doesn’t make sense, I had a true freshman 5 star elite development qb win Heisman and throw for 5500+ yards and 55 tds with a natty win, and he only went up like 1 or 2 overalls in the offseason. Makes no sense
There is still a lot of variance to the ways players progress.
Player progression in this game is trash. No matter what coaching package they just don't progress well. These packages for progression do not work like they should if I am spending coaching points. They need to fix this issue.
Player progression is good just got to give them time. There not going to always be good by year 2. It's realistic
@@luxs_beast2799 I have played 12 seasons. Using different coaching trees. It is not fine. Multiple complaints from multiple players.
There isn't going to be a ton of 90 overall players no matter what.
idk what yourre talking about the player progression is amazing.
@LonghornsLegend then why even have those overalls in the game? Make the highest overall you can reach 89 overall then. Having 4 and 5 star recruits by their junior or senior year they should be in the 90s. PERIOD. I have a multi time heisman trophy winning QB that's been at an 84 overall for 2 fkn years. That is unacceptable. Especially when my backup who never played a snap with a lesser dev trait is an 86 overall. Progression is broken and horrible. Just like he said
Do they ever get faster? I.e. spd, acc? Not seeing progression.
I really love how in depth this game goes. Almost worth the wait… 😂
Yeah I love it. It blows away madden for me.
How do you get couns to upgrade player attributes?? How do you upgrade your coordinators?
Playing with the player will accrue them coins, buts it automatically upgrades them. Also, the coordinators also upgrade themselves.
@@PoodleGaming so whats the point of having coins?
What is the discrepancy between the “card” overall of say, 93, but a roster list overall of 97? Also does anyone know what overall number or other metrics lead to players getting drafted in dynasty?
I'm just curious but does free practice do anything for player development or gameplaning?
No it doesn’t.
@PoodleGaming man I swear my team plays better after I do a practice session before my games lmao maybe it's a placebo.
Oh,
Thats why my lamar jackson prototype couldn't go above a 88. He is capped low on power.
That sucks
Yeah, stat caps can be frustrating. However, there is a coach package to break the caps.
@PoodleGaming you talking the architect one?
I was on level 4.
And he won 2 nattys.
Everything else was maxed. Just not power. And his final 2 years it never changed.
It’s called like “cap breaker” and then there’s another one I’m pretty sure.
I have a question. So say I have 4 defensive tackles, one is a junior who’s an 80 ovr normal, one is a RS freshman who is an 81 ovr (was a 5 star) with impact, one who’s an 82 ovr normal junior, and another who’s a 78 ovr star RS freshman (was a 4 star gem). BUT then you recruit three 5 star elite dev defensive tackles, who are basically just as good as the ones mentioned above stat/physical wise, but are around 3-4 overalls lower than the best ones. Would you start the elite dev freshman right away? Or would you redshirt them so they gain that extra year of eligibility? I currently have this issue in an online franchise and I need some help with deciding.
I answered your dm over on Twitter.
I'd say redshirt them. But idk
How do I set my depth chart in dynasty mode? Every time I set my depth chart the system replaces them with another player.
Go to setting and see if they have an auto edit setting. Also assigning redshirts seemed to mess up my depth chart.
I hate that if you don’t have at least impact dev your players don’t get drafted despite stats because their overall isn’t high
I mean that’s realistic tho. NFL teams don’t want a player they can’t develop into an elite player despite of their college stats
Well I guess it kind of makes sense, but I see your point.
Look at changing player’s position at the start of the season had a WR who was a 87 changed him to HB be became a 99 overall it’s very possible to get players to hit above 90 but it has to do with your coaching abilities too
Yeah changing positions can help increase overall if that’s what you are looking for
I see a lot of comments about people not being able to upgrade their players. I am having the opposite problem where my players are getting massive upgrades every season to the point where its unrealistic and boring. There has got to be a setting I need to change?
lol this sounds like a good issue.
Does your coach max out at level 50? I’ve got plenty of XP but it won’t allow me to spend it
Maxed at 50 sadly
I don’t think you mentioned, but as you play with the players the players dev trait could change
I don’t think they can? Unless you change position or something, otherwise dev traits don’t change.
@@PoodleGamingNot True. I’ve had players devs go from Star to impact and vice versus throughout the season depending on how I’ve used them. Also some of my redshirt players have decreased on Dev trait while they aren’t playing. Them system is logical by way of Dev trait, class, star rating and usage in my opinion but it’s still variable which makes the game way better. The linear madden system is boring this one is fresh and always something new can happen
Honestly the development feels a lot like FIFA.
FIFA has a Dynamic Potential Rating. The players have a set Potential and once they hit that said potential they will no longer grow in any attribute but if they have a great season along with just team success it can go up (unless they are over a certain age)
Sure FIFA allows us to pick the development plan for these players to get the stats we want, but if not you can leave it on Balanced and after the season or even when a player is on loan they will grow by 5-6+ overall points.
Yeah, I love how this development system is.
On the training results screen, do the green up arrows represent players that improved during the offseason or is that players affected by tactician? I see ur TE didnt have a green arrow... only reason i say this is because i think my game is glitched... ive tried 8+ dynastys to test and my players are showing ZERO green up arrows, even when ive won the natty.... my Northwestern dynasty from like 1.5 weeks ago worked perfect, my team after like 9 seasons was a 96ovr and would show all green arrows during training results but idk if thats bc i had tactician or its actually bc that was before pre patch and my game wasnt bugged then... can anyone help??? Basically: If you or ur assistant coaches DONT have any tachtician upgrades, are u still suppose to see green up arrows indicating ur players got better???
The green arrows are the boosts from coaching packages.
If a regular dev get big number his overall will still be good up
Ehh, not like crazy but yes a bit
@@PoodleGaming I had a 88 overall wr he had a regular dev
How can you tell if they were upgraded ? No history of upgrades or notification of them getting upgraded . Not tryna remeber all these players
I don’t believe there’s a history, just kind of need to know it.
i also noticed in the off season training speed never changes for players, if you use them or not
I guess it depends what they upgrade.
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
So the architect tree lets you increase xp for "ingame goals" but how effective is this for positions like linemen? Does o line have good ways to earn xp in have? I wish you could see more clearly how your players are earning xp
O line could possibly get goals for total yardage, etc.

If you have a star or elite dev trait make sure they see the field somewhat their freshman yr
Yea I agree 100%
Man idk. I got an elite 5 star qb. Came in at 80 ovr. Used him a bit as a freshman. Started sophomore through senior yr and is only an 89. Had a wr I moved to rb forget his ovr starting but was at star trait and as a rs sophomore he's at 96 ovr lol
@@WillRoscoe1985 was he performing well throughout the year. Freshmen yr in my experience gives the biggest boost and after that it depends on awards. Also the motivator + tactician trait plays a big role as a coach.
@chriscurlett3133 just garbage time as a freshman. As sophomore through Sr at least 50 tds but sophomore year I did throw 22 picks lol. I have the motivator upgrade but maybe it's because I didn't have any other qbs drafted high.
@chriscurlett3133 so more data. Elite qb won heisman as fr and all coaches have off season training boost. Went from 82 to 87. Elite wr who I rs went from 78 to 90
They’re going to bring a lot of the old features back just going to take time.
Yeah, I hope so as well. First year of the game tho, so I’m happy with what we got
The dev rating bricked player growth so badly. I have a WR that's a SR now, he's broken every record in the NCAA and still is only an 82 overall since he has a "normal" growth. I have 44 pts but can use them for him because he's capped out at 82. Doesnt make since.
Well, the stat caps would brick player growth. Dev trait is just for accruing XP.
If I have a freshman that's Elite should i play him over my Senior or should I redshirt him and let his development playout next season?
Depends on the overall and the program. If I’m a great program, and the freshman is 75 or lower I’m probably redshirting him. If I’m a small program, I’m probably playing my best guys.
@@PoodleGaming Elite FS is 76. My starting Senior FS is 80. I’m Indiana in a 5 man Big Ten league. If the biggest jump in overall is Freshman to Sophomore. Sounds like I should start STAR or ELITE freshman at any position available.

Once they are on your roster, hover over them and Click “Y/Triangle”, it will be in the bottom left corner.
The skill point feature is broken, why can't u pick which slot u would like to upgrade, i hate how it does it by itself
I guess it’s supposed to be more realistic so people don’t all build the same meta style player.
When I read the deep dive I definitely targeted Mind Reader but until they extend the coach skills cap I don’t think it’s worth it
I agree
Does anyone know how to unlock the tiered abilities for the players? I have a running back with 89 spin but he’s still on bronze 360…. Do I have to do this manually, or is it RNG if the tiers gets unlocked?
I think the game is bugged with unlocking the next tier. I’m hoping they fix it in the next patch.
Why are some of my players abilities locked when they have more than enough of the overall to get a higher teir badge, for example (gold house call requires 80 sum rating) while my guy has more than that but still no badge upgrade
I think they need skill points since they auto upgrade abilities using them
Do stats stack if you have the same ability points as your OC in motivator for example.
Yes, I believe abilities stack.
You can’t upgrade players that’s only offline , I think they get used in the offseason but I’m in 3 online dynasty can’t only go
Yeah it’s automatic

Can players dev change ever or is it set at what they come with
Their dev trait is permanent
@@PoodleGaming thank you!
@@jtbucketsshorts2213that’s not true. Dev traits can move up or down depending how said players season is going. I don't understand in any way the argument that seemingly everyone has that its dumb and unrealistic to manually comtroll which aspects of your player are improved. I always focus on man coverage with my cbs for example.... in what universe does a coach not have an direct impact on how a player develops and how is it in any way realistic that they progress completely randomly lmao it actually makes no sense to me. And ultimately the fact it's not even an option to be turned on is typical EA negligence.
To an extent coaches have a say on how players develop but it’s solely up to the players themselves in real life at the end of the day which is pretty realistic, teams like LSU and Alabama have 20 plus 4 and 5 star recruits every year yet only half of them at best will drafted their junior and senior years every time
Why would you want to focus on man coverage in this game tho? Zone, specifically cover 3, is so much better than man it’s not even funny. The training being “random” isn’t easy negligence , them not displaying which attributes improved and by how much is

I found a 3 star wr that max out at a 92 ovr
That’s a great find
Why even use certain players? If they are just gonna cap out at an 85 overall. I'm going to use someone with lesser dev trait. Because with hard caps it makes the dev trait irrelevant to anything other than on field performance
That’s why it’s important to check these things before every season. Check their dev trait and their stat caps and see what their ceiling is.

I think whatever they have is what they will have.
@PoodleGaming wow! So there's no way to gain abilities if they don't already have them?
@PoodleGaming actually they can obtain abilities I just don't know how or when they materialize. I simulated the same offseason progression phase over and over probably 30-40 times just to see what kind of variance it gave me for different dev trait players, and testing the motivator perks. I’m now convinced dev trait has absolutely zero impact on development and it is completely random. My two “elite” dev freshmen consistently only gained 4-6 ovr, while some impact and star dev players often jumped 10+. Even players that sat on the bench all year often jumped my elite guys who started. Similarly the motivator perks for offseason training boost have seemingly no impact. Tested the QB and WR boost, and saw the same amount of gains on average with or without those perks.
I've done quite a few dynasty's with different teams of varying star level and noticed the same thing. I made a new dynasty and put everything into recruiting and I think that's the move going forward.

Thanks!
So the only way to see the dev trait is with strategist and mind reader!? There is no other way of knowing?? Um that’s bullshit sorry….
Yeah I believe so. I mean, I guess it should be tough. In Madden, you can’t find out at all until after draft.
Holy shit, I had no idea I had to upgrade my players manually🤦♂️
You don't.
How did you get tht from the video? Lol. Gotta be multitasking 😂

@@Thelife_1it’s broken but no more than madden. College football relies more on understanding real elements and simulation of the variables.
@@GregGrady-te2hnat least your players are rewarded for playing well in madden.
