I’m stil glowing, almost 24 hrs afterwards, one of the most beautiful performances I’ve seen and I have seen a few. I loved Placido, but also all the other singers, including the choir

Her dress is giving me "think of me" vibes from phantom. I know its based off of another dress worn by Empress Elisabeth of Austria

Different genres of art like Broadway. But The academy is changing!! The opera needs to be more original and creative!!

A classic performance of this most beautiful and moving of operas. Not that godawful production with the little red dress and the enormous clock- God, how I hate that!

Carol Gibbs I saw it once & the level of non artistic display was so disgusting. Natalie Dessay was vocally in another alternative universe. Nebtrebko was even more R RATED. I deleted it from my DVR. TO this day I only have Butterfly with Kristen Oliopas Latvian Soprano. Robert Alagna was not even adequate poor man. The production was very bizarre with a wooden puppet portraying the son/ little boy TROUBLE Etc. We saw the same production in San Francisco about 12 YEARS ago. The 4 of us just tried not to seemed some what 😲.Our daughters in-laws were from Chicago & Mary worked as an User/ Attentdant at CHICAGO LYRIC OPERA IN the late 60s early 70s when she was a student at Loyala University. The other is Cavalier Rusticana with Maria Westbrook Dutch dramatic soprano. Marcello Alvarez etc. PARDON MY SPELLING of these Opera singers my friends. After the 80s The end of the GOLDEN ERA. Opera died for so many of us. But you have all the memories all the vinyls CDs DVDs Etc that will suffice for now my friends. AUDIO Arnold Bourbon Amaral 🌎🌏🌍👱👴🎶🎵🎼 MUSIC WITHOUT BOUNDARIES

Why is Traviata the most performed opera? Because houses like Covent Garden programme it ad nauseam, year in year out, often with the same casts. Well, you did ask. There are dozens if not hundreds of operas I would love this house to perform, but they get pushed out by great long runs of the same half dozen operas.

    • @irenehathout7417

They program it ad nauseam because people love it. There are about a dozen operas that get performed ad nauseam. Rigoletto, Trovatore, La Boheme, Tosca, Norma, Lucia etc. The more you hear them, the more you know them, the more you find little details, the more you love them. What is the point of playing I Lombardi, etc. which are not as perfect? They aren't going to get any better with repetition. I've watched most of these operas twenty or thirty times over and I never get tired of them. I always find something new to admire and enjoy.

It sells. I go to lots of concerts etc, modern music, half empty halls.

@@karenhastings8561 My original post was from 4 years ago. In that time, Traviata has been presented endlessly at Covent Garden. The amount of seats not sold at that their full price, especially in the more expensive seats, has risen again and again.
This sort of programming is lazy and at the same time, does not even work in filling seats.
I would happily do without Traviaia/ Boheme and Magic Flute for 5 years.
I think it also insulting to be told that as an audience that we cannot and will not go to more interesting and diverse repertoire.

Why is popular music popular? Because people enjoy hearing it. Same for opera. it's not hard. The most popular operas are popular because people want to hear them.@@David-pt8ge

Callas was a great artist but we need to remember opera is about more than just one performance or interpretation. It's brought to life every time it's performed and we're lucky to have amazing singers today too.
