    This vid is dope and the overall theme of doing some good quality m20b25 videos is like gold to me. Will does a lot of his stroker motor build lessons with the engine out, but I like how this one is aimed more toward daily drivers. An in car timing belt replacement video with best practices/ things to avoid would be dope. I’ve seen a lot out there but I know with your guys knowledge and creativity you could do it justice. I know a lot of people argue even with how to get started via removing hood for space or not etc etc you guys know the constant debates all over the forums and UA-cam. You guys are awesome your words would be like the unwritten e30 bible

      I think pulling the hood is absolutely worth it for certain maintenance, and I WOULD do it for the timing belt in the car. I have another hood that I've cut up with vents that I swap out, so don't worry about removing the hood, just make sure you score the mounting location to make adjusting the hood easy.
      I actually didn't do the timing belt, but I've heard dudes knocking them out quickly.

    This is the proper way. I remember doing this a very haggard way years ago. The car was trapped on a driveway that was the size of the car and we didn't have the right size key to turn over the engine. So what we did was put it in First with the handbrake on and push the back of the car. The car wouldn't move but the engine turned cus of the momentum hahaha. And it was spot on when we were done.

    You can test if it's too loose by putting the next step up feeler gauge in and if it's goes in then your too loose.

    So when the lobe is facing down (In the degree from the engine) can you adjust both valves on cylinder 1? Then just continue with the firing order of the engine? I have a automatic E23 m30 engine. Can I just rotate the engine with help of the alternator nut to make is easy?

    • @DENVERBEERANDOIL
      @DENVERBEERANDOIL  3 роки тому +1

      If the alternator nut rotates the engine sure (can't remember off the top of my head) as far as adjusting the vales go, yeah, as long as the cam lobe of the rocker you're working on is completely down, you could adjust it.

    this actually helped alot as i am doing the valvue adjustment now but i also came upon a new discussion that is the flyewheel. how can i know if it need replacement? does it need to be resurfaced? thank you for the amazing content you provide!!

    • @paynefulmechanix9675
      @paynefulmechanix9675 3 роки тому

      Do you have a M20b27 with dual mass or a M20b25 with single mass? Do you experience slipping after being in gear? You most likely don't need a new fly wheel even if there are teeth missing, but it's always good to get your single mass resurfaced, and you could probably find a new ring gear, but I'm not sure how prevalent those are in your area. I lightened and resurfaced the single mass here, but also had it balanced to the rotating assembly before finally engine assembly. If you have the engine or trans out, I'd recommend resurfacing and getting a new OEM BMW clutch.

    Apparently 12-15K is recommended for valve adjustments, and sooner if you hoon.

    My M70 V12 uses hydraulic valve adjusters. The good news? I don't have to manually adjust valves on the M70. Hooray! But wait. What's the bad news? The bad news is that the rubber seals holding the oil inside the valve adjusters eventually cracks and leaks the oil out. This leads to a momentary ticking noise until it fills with oil again. But then the oil leaks out again when I turn the engine off. Next time I turn the engine on again, the ticking noise returns until the hydraulic adjusters fill with oil again, and so on.
    Even if just one or two are bad, I'm going to replace ALL of them. Because if one or two are bad, the others are getting there also. So unless you like taking apart your engine TWENTY FOUR times, do all of them at one time.

    Maybe every 5K for oil changes but not necessary for valve timing. Valve timing should be every 15k or so, or if it sounds off. M20 valves are always nice and loud like a sewing machine. It’s the rhythm that counts
