    Mine was a black on black with black and white interior. The back opera seat was truly a work of art by Ford. I have regreteted selling that car to this day. Not sure I will be able to find another to fill the void, but, I do appreciate that others are able to obtain and keep them. At 17 years old, I was able to appreciate that car. I traded my 75 Honda Civic CVCC and my 70 Cadillac Sedan de Ville to get that car. Unfortunately, my military pay was not enough to allow me to make the payments, so I sold it. Sorry Baby-Bird, I will always remember you with fond memories.

    I remember the day my father drove his brand new 1968 T-Bird home. It was the four door, silver metallic paint, black interior. Still remember the new car smell and those black leather seats were amazing. The biggest problem was Detroit winter road salt that ate away the bottom of the door panels exposing all the door window wires which led to power window failure. The engine was really cramped in there and A/C was the first thing to die. Sadly road salt destroyed that once beautiful car and it was sold for scrap just a short 9 years into its life. Bought new just over $5,000 in 1968, sold $125 for scrap in 1977. It had less than 30K miles on it when the engine developed valve issues.

      No doubt, Out of all the cars he's had on here I think this one is one of the better finds for the money. I remember these when I was a kid in 1971, My uncle had a green one just like this one. If I had more garage space I would buy this one for the heck of it. Wiki: The 1968 Thunderbird saw the introduction of the new 385 series big-block "Thunder Jet" 4V (4 barrel carburetor) 429 cu in (7.0 L) V8 engines. Like many Ford engines of the time, they were conservatively rated at 360 hp (268 kW) (SAE gross). The new engine made the cars some of the quickest and fastest Thunderbirds ever produced.

    My brother had the same colour, same engine in the same model, but dark interior. Not sure if it was a 68 or 69. He bought it around the year 1982 or so? I was with him the night he bought it for 900 Canadian $’s. He also bought an Austin Mini at the same time for $90, had an auto tranny in it and it didn’t want to work, cost him 20 bucks to fix it and he sold the Mini for $500! Memories! The T-Bird is a beautiful design, only years that were ugly was that small model Ford came out in the energy crises with that was nothing more than a dressed up Pinto! Those signal lights if I remember correctly were sequential.

    I have one just like her. I converted mine from the landau top to the coupe (simulated bars, vinyl top and the extra trim all removed) when I did the body work and paint. Makes 'em much more sporty. I also tossed the 2:80 highway gears that kill the off the line performance of even the 429 for a set of 3: 25's w/ posi. That 429 sports 11.5 compression from the factory. An aluminum intake w/ a holly 750, a high stall converter and a shift kit for the c6 and you've unleashed the beast in hiding in these cars. She'll roast the tires right off it.
    Did you notice, the wipers are power by the power steering pump? These have sequential taillights. They oem unit that controls them is a combo of elco and mechanical. Don't bother with that pricey trash these days. Ditch it and wire in a modern electric unit, even just a non brand cheapy from ebay is all you need and it's better than the oem unit.

    • @Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism
      @Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism 2 роки тому +2

      These cars are an absolute dream drive. Ride like heaven and steer 'em with your pinky. Anyone who wants, can turn this car into a monster with just a couple grand and a couple weekends. It's all already there, you just need to unleashed it. Mainly those gears. It's an 9 3/8 rear but 9 in centers do fit. Just need to match up the axles to fit, due to how the 9 in center section will be a bit offset than the oem 9 3/8. I just got lucky and found a 3.25 LS center from a pickup of the same era and swapped it. You can do that too but good gears are hard to find and limited to just 3.25 - 3.50 or super rare 4.10 for "decent" options in the 9 3/8 rear. Most in these birds were 2.80 and some 3.00 which just makes any big engine a slug off the line. They had to give them some sort of fuel economy back when they were sold to be daily drivers though, considering no overdrives and no locking converters back then. Cheapest and only thing to do was gear 'em high. I'll tell you tough, tune the engine and I could still light that one wheel peel up when it had the open 2.80 in it, so lol. They have so much grunt. It's just the 460 with a different stroke. New for '68 in the t-bird. The Lincoln got the 460 the same year. I would have rebuilt the 429 to the 460 while rebuilding, but the car came with a reman 429 and it's so strong, I don't have the heart to rip it down. Just no need. The 429 is a screamer as is.
      These are really muscle cars in hiding. It takes very, very, very little to bring them out and turn them into a "gentleman's muscle car" if you will.

    Everything sounds good except that front universal joint which is making a clanking sound! PRETTY car though! Where are you guys located? I'm a Ford man and love the car! BTW: do you have the original wheels and hubcaps? The only issues for me would be that front universal joint, non working air conditioning and weak wipers, I think the turn signals are burned out bulb issues! That vinyl top , would rather that crack not be there, but it would be ket instead and only used for cruise night, Power windows issues are also a concern, exhaust leak could be an issue OR an easy fix???!
