I like Dr. Blackwood's perspective and insights, and that he has a clear positive view of society and its failures to a point. However, apart from only the intellectual view of a very well-read, discussed, researched, and developed point of view by Dr. Blackwood I feel there is a lack of inclusion of the mainstream of society at all levels which truly make a society function (the artisan, the craftsmen, the tradesman, the medicos, the transport industry, the military, etc). It's not "There is no truth, but only power" so much as truth is irrelevant when confronted with raw power. He's confusing aesthetics with truth. He's talking about returning to classical studies as practiced by the ancient Greeks. Traditionally, that kind of philosophical study was the domain of the wealthy elites. Even through the middle ages, the clergy and noble born were the only ones with access to writings of Boethius or Plato or Marcus Aurelius for that matter. The rest were largely illiterate and had time to meditate on the meaning of "truth". As a boomer, I'm part of the most educated population America has ever seen. This is not the normal historical condition of man. The "roots" of civilization he's talking about do not really apply to people trying to survive the new urban environment of America. The majority of American's are more concerned with their next paycheck, not truth. Large families don't make economic sense for most urban dwellers, indeed neither does marriage. These are hold overs from another time and the times they are a changin'. Who knows where, but one things for certain, there is no going back. Nietzsche is a more relevant read than Boethius.

It's not "There is no truth, but only power" so much as truth is irrelevant when confronted with raw power. He's confusing aesthetics with truth. He's talking about returning to classical studies as practiced by the ancient Greeks. Traditionally, that kind of philosophical study was the domain of the wealthy elites. Even through the middle ages, the clergy and noble born were the only ones with access to writings of Boethius or Plato or Marcus Aurelius for that matter. The rest were largely illiterate and had time to meditate on the meaning of "truth".
As a boomer, I'm part of the most educated population America has ever seen. This is not the normal historical condition of man. The "roots" of civilization he's talking about do not really apply to people trying to survive the new urban environment of America. The majority of American's are more concerned with their next paycheck, not truth. Large families don't make economic sense for most urban dwellers, indeed neither does marriage. These are hold overs from another time and the times they are a changin'. Who knows where, but one things for certain, there is no going back.
Nietzsche is a more relevant read than Boethius.
