When the episode started out with Joel trying his best to fend off Ellie's joke attempts, I said to myself, it has to end with him laughing at a joke. Glad we saw that.
Getting the joke book in this episode was a treat. It was one of the best moments in the game as you would be traversing the world then Ellie would pop out the joke book to tell some dad jokes. The diarrhea joke at the end was the perfect period on that setup. Watching those two bond over a shitty ( 😉 ) dad joke was such a delight. ‘Twas awesome 😂 And the porno mag scene was straight from the game and they did not disappoint. Also Jeffrey Pierce, who played Tommy in the games, plays Perry in the show. He’s the lieutenant. It was so great seeing him again in the show. He has such a great voice and he looks totally different from the way he did back when he did the game.
As a wyomingite, hearing Hector say “Is it Cheyenne Wyoming?” while looking at a city skyline is the funniest thing because there are literally NO skyscrapers in Wyoming 😭
As soon as Joel looked past the truck across the tunnel and saw there were no cars or anything, he knew that was blocked off by someone on purpose so he was waiting for the ambush but he had no choice, they had to get through.
This episode felt so much like the game for me, with boosting Ellie up to open the door, the shoot out in the laundry mat, and all the lines taken exactly from the game (all the puns ahah). So faithful really love it!
Another great reaction guys. One thing I like about episode 4 is that it's more world building for Ellie, seeing how other people are living (surviving) in different parts of the country. As well as some great bonding moments between Ellie and Joel.
I was grinning like an idiot from the time that Ellie pulled out the joke book to the ambush in the city - they borrowed these sequences from the game and they were perfect. This show just keeps exemplifying three things: 1) How amazing a game property can be if you give it to someone who knows what they’re doing. 2) How you integrate and expand a known world to entertain new viewers and keep the interest of existing fans. Without delving into spoilers, most of the human drama in this ep is new or adapted from the existing story. 3) How you do human drama in a post-apocalypse setting (looking at you, Walking Dead).
The fact that Adam knows there's a KCMO and a KCK and that Agustin is talking sh*t about my hometown just makes me love y'all even more. Thanks for another great reaction, looking forward to the chaos that's to come
I love all these reactors, but I swear with everyone questioning Ellie's skills with a gun, I just want to scream: "She went to a military school! In the apocalypse! Why would she not know how to use a gun?!" xD
because that not military school, just a school belong for millitary, they raise children just to get these kids work for them when they growth up, this is apocalyse world, there won't be much bullet lying around to teach every kid to use gun, just someone that loyal to them
@@DrkShd I mean, you don't really need a gun to be loaded to teach someone how to use it. Plus, the first episode mentioned that FEDRA has a factory producing ammo in Atlanta. Right!! I feel like Ellie taking out the clip and emptying the chamber before she inspects the gun further is to show us that she has some solid basic understanding of a gun, although she’s still a little immature about it😂
I haven't played the video game in years, but it actually feels pretty close to the game. They pretty casually incorporate gameplay elements into the show (the shootout, but also Joel boosting Ellie through a window and getting help getting into a room only she can fit into are examples from this episode)

I just know episode 5 is going to be INSANELY GOOD, thank god we get to see it this Friday! I was going to loose my mind if we'd have to wait til Sunday lol
This channel is by far my fave to watch reactions of last of us series. Your reactions are just as entertaining as the show itself 😅. Especially as you're watching this with fresh eyes to the story. This show is pacing so well for what's gonna be a 9 episode series. S1 has been confirmed as the whole first game, so I'm super intrigued to see how they fit the rest of the story in!

Yeah the Pittsburg section is just wave after wave of hunter NPCs. It’s not until you jump off the bridge and explore the sewers with Sam and Henry that the story becomes interesting again
Seeing Joel giggling in this episode is making me so nervous. They have to stop giving us little bits of happiness before the bad stuff, I'm not ready for Sam and henry
@El Benja not spoiling, to be fair stuff is bound to happen in this show, but they've been throwing curveballs. So as someone who knows the game? Who knows what's gonna happen
Hey hermanos, just letting you know that I feel like you're my closest friends and I'm happy whenever there's a new video. I struggle daily with depression and your videos make my day better. Abraços latinos do Brasil!
"Sleep in the car" No, that's the last thing you want to do (unless it's Winterand really cold). In a car you can't hear anything approaching you and if they do, you have no way (short of trying to drive off) to escape. You're also a sitting duck for anyone trying to shoot you.
Just wanted to say that we notice and appreciate the quality and hard work that is put into the videos. You guys standout as the best creators in my book ❤️
That roller coaster you see in the beginning of the episode is actually a ride called "The Mamba" at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. I live like 10 minutes away from it. Really cool and unexpected to see my city in this show.
They used Kansas City as the city in this episode. The amusement park they used is "Worlds of fun". I drive past it every day. The downtown shots are spot on as well.... so cool
Absolutely love your reactions! I’m not a gamer but am entranced by this show! I was trepidations about a “zombie apocalypse” show and am so happy that the violence isn’t graphic and gory and that this is really a people show. The characters are so compelling, personified by a stellar cast all around but Pedrito and Bella are exceptional. I agree that the pacing is perfect, as is the dialogue and musical score. I was relieved to have the bonding begin and that i didn’t cry during the episode for the first time!
Don't worry, they'll have you crying again next week :') As someone who's played the game, I love seeing others attach to these characters that I've loved for so long!
It's funny because the games are some of the most violent I've ever played. They are definitely shying away from the darkest elements of the games both in terms of viscera and characters. There are parts that I know they cannot avoid that will shock TV audiences.
@Gaust Hmmm . Have you seen any children’s shows lately?. I enjoy the violence honestly just don’t like splatter. Besides when they don’t show it, your imagination does the rest and that is very powerful.
Most of this show was filmed in various regions of Alberta, Canada. Alberta basically has a similar look to the American Midwest plenty of prairie, wide open highway, american looking cities, boreal forest and even sections of Rocky mountains and foothills.
Idk why everyone assumes a 14 year old raised in an apocalypse at a school for military youth would not know at least the basics of handling a gun. Like yes Joel can help refine her technique and knowledge but like. Idk is it just me or does it not seem super obvious that she would know how to use a gun by this point.
Ahh the pun book. We know where she gets that’s from😢. Also fun fact that man with the beard is Jeffrey Pierce, the voice actor for Tommy in the game. I love to see it
Great as always, homies! I think Ellie said "it was not my first time" because she technically killed that zombie with her knife in that pit stop they did to find Joel's stash on episode 3. I have no clue what that thing was under the broken floor! 😯
Most of TLOU was filmed in Alberta. On the podcast, they say the main reason they switched cities from Pittsburgh to Kansas City was simply how much easier it'd be to film in their current location.
The Last of Us is not about zombies. It's about people. What we do in a crisis. What we value. How we form connections. And how those connections are so valuable when we're down to... the last of us.
It’s funny reading some of the posts and seeing people saying how the scene with the man calling out for his mother because he fears dying is so wrenching. We’ve seen several men murdered on camera in real life by police, imagine the horror those men experienced before being murdered, art imitating life, reality of where we are
as someone who is very familiar with the game i'm so happy that the show stands on its own. You don't need any prior knowledge to enjoy it, and it hits just as hard.
the scenes from the cassette tape, magazine, and falling asleep in car is all shot for shot from the game. references and lines appear towards the end of the episode that were mentioned earlier in game. Joel saying he’s been on both sides for example. Fun fact guys, the army dude with the long hair & beard is the original voice actor for Tommy from the game. Him & Kathleen are new characters. the group are called hunters. They are in Pittsburgh in the episode. y’all thought episode 3 was heart wrenching? If they do the sam and Henry storyline shot for shot, y’all ain’t gonna be ready.
I have never played any video games ever, so of course haven't played this one and I AM LOVING THIS SHOW. I have been sucked in since minute one and can't wait for each next episode. AND, you guys are my new favorite reactors so I also can't wait to watch your reactions every week😂
14:03 I liked that detail of Joel using the knife as to not waste ammo/alert any other nearby A-holes. Not so much to spite the Bryan dude or anything specifically, although it was kind of a poetic/fitting way for a merciless & yet clearly cowardly guy to go out.
Yeah! It bugs the crap out of me when you see automatic type weapons in a post apocalyptic scenario . Shooting a hundred rounds is just a waste of resources . That was a detail I liked about the original Mad Max movies . The guns and ammo were precious cuz there was no way to replace them . I’m surprised we haven’t seen any bow/ arrow or horses for that matter , but I’m not familiar with the game .
Absolutely loved this reaction & this show has been fantastic. I too have yet to play the game, already pre-ordered it on PC next month but you guys definitely earned a sub from me. Keep up the awesome work!
As someone who grew up in KC, they did SUCH a good job making it look like KC. Like damn. And they're in KC, Missouri. That side has all the big buildings.
If nobody else has mentioned it, the guy with the long hair and beard working with woman who leads the people of the city is the same actor that played Tommy in the video game.
What I think is really cool about this adaptation is that while those who have played the video game (myself included) may know the "big" moments that the game are going to hit on, we really have no idea how it's going to be brought up. Ellie's first kill was huge but happened differently in the game. Tess' death happened differently in the game. The game didn't humanize the enemies. Henry and Sam are a huge part of the game and they've already begun to expand on them. I saw the preview for the next episode which, once again, will introduce something huge but it's something that was introduced earlier in the game. I think they've done a good job of giving nods to the game players while also somehow making it new and refreshing for every viewer involved.
Yes, as a non-comic reader, this is what it feels like. Not that I don't like comics, just don't get to read them. I'm glad you guys like the show. Yes please play the game on here!! Btw: season 1 is the first game. Season 2 is confirmed the second game, and season 2 is confirmed!!
Interesting tid-bit, in the game this section takes place in Pittsburgh. However, in the tv series they were filming in and around Calgary, Canada. The reason they changed this sequence to Kansas City, is because they said that Calgary looks more like KC than Pittsburgh.
That’s too bad . Pittsburgh has a great look . It would also be a good place to hole up during an apocalypse since they’re isolated and walled in a bit .
That last episode was the first time I saw the real Ellie in her interpretation. Ellie was being portraited as an always angry smartass brat while in the gaming she's more easy going, lighthearted and funny. That last episode showed us that side of her and Bella nailed it. Now I'm 100% sold on Bella's Ellie.
Well done Adam for knowing that there is a Kansas City in both states. Generally speaking though "Kansas City" is usually in reference to Kansas City, Missouri. It's the larger of the two and that was definitely downtown. I've walked through so many of the locations they showed in this episode. So at about 7:53 to 8:16 of the episode I'm pretty sure that was Worlds of Fun (which is still in business) and some stretches of highway and other surrounding areas. They probably just grabbed some reference shots when they were filming the downtown scenes (because it definitely looks like some of that was on location) and just digitally stressed everything for that "end of the world" look.
That roller-coaster is at worlds of fun. It's a theme park in Kansas City. Rode it many times. It's cool to see KC in a big time thing because you definitely don't see it much.
I get the desperation for resources, especially 20 years into the post apocalypse, but I really despise what the hunters do. It just ain't right. Plus when they get peeved when you start dropping them, I'm like, "well what'd you expect?! You started this and I'm ending it! You brought this on yourselves!" That attitude just angers me.
So TLOU Part 1 is the whole of the first season. Season 2 has been announced but they have mentioned they may need 2 seasons to fit all of Part 2 in. As a fan, I am thrilled with this and the more we get the better!

Mostly all of the skyscraper downtown area of Kansas City is on the Missouri side.
Absolutely loved this reaction & this show has been fantastic. I too have yet to play the game, already pre-ordered it on PC next month but you guys definitely earned a sub from me. Keep up the awesome work!
Welcome!
As someone who grew up in KC, they did SUCH a good job making it look like KC. Like damn.
And they're in KC, Missouri. That side has all the big buildings.
Glad I wasn’t the only 1 looking at the fire alarm wondering why they focused on it lol.
If nobody else has mentioned it, the guy with the long hair and beard working with woman who leads the people of the city is the same actor that played Tommy in the video game.
The rifle gunshots in this show, and especially these last two episodes, have been really good. They sound LOUD, as they should.
If only I could sub twice... I really want to watch you guys play this wonderful WONDERFUL game. 😭
First episode we learn she's been at FEDRA since she was an orphan. Makes sense they would've introduced them to guns early.
It's funny to hear you call them zambies. A while back I worked on an ad campaign about morning breakfast zombies and we called them zAMbies.
Poor Hector looks like he's ready for bed
Yes, as a non-comic reader, this is what it feels like. Not that I don't like comics, just don't get to read them. I'm glad you guys like the show. Yes please play the game on here!!
Btw: season 1 is the first game. Season 2 is confirmed the second game, and season 2 is confirmed!!
I love you guys so much. I love your love of Pedro. Thanks for giving me good warm feelings inside.
I agree so much with Adam. Let the shows tell the stories they want in the amount of the time they need.
Fun fact, the bearded soldier plays Tommy in the game!
Kathleen, the Leader of the Resistance, is Madam Defarge: no amount of revenge will be enough
Thanks, Adam! Thanks, Hector! Thanks, Agustin! 🌇 #HeroesReforged #TheLastOfUs #TLOU #TheLastOfUsHBO
The show is filmed in various locations in the province of Alberta, Canada. Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, High River
Heads up: Episode 5 is gonna air on Friday cause of super bowl
Interesting tid-bit, in the game this section takes place in Pittsburgh. However, in the tv series they were filming in and around Calgary, Canada. The reason they changed this sequence to Kansas City, is because they said that Calgary looks more like KC than Pittsburgh.
That’s too bad . Pittsburgh has a great look . It would also be a good place to hole up during an apocalypse since they’re isolated and walled in a bit .
Luckily we don’t have wait a week for 1x05, we’re getting it on Friday.😊
@hector this was filmed in Alberta. Parts of Edmonton, Calgary and smaller cities in the Province. Cheers
Favorite UA-cam channel all time!!! Get these men to 200k subs😤😤
Listen to this person!
I live in KCMO. There were actually parts of KC they put in the show. You'd only know if you're from here though. So cool though!!
It's filmed in Alberta, a lot of Canmore and Calgary. Some of the best scenery in the world.
I enjoy your reactions! :)
Due to the Superbowl HBO MAX will be airing episode 5 of "The Last of Us" early on Friday, Feb. 10th.
So TLOU Part 1 is the whole of the first season. Season 2 has been announced but they have mentioned they may need 2 seasons to fit all of Part 2 in.
As a fan, I am thrilled with this and the more we get the better!
The hunter with the large beard Is actually Jeffrey Pierce, he played Tommy in the games
