I just made one and it turned out so well! Adding on the last tetrahedra was a little confusing, but what helped me most was understanding that each module of the combined three should weave under two modules.
@sweetymindy94 there is a pattern, the finished model will be all symmetric If you try to put at random, you probably won't be able to intersect more than 2 tetrahedra... There is only one way to fit all perfectly
This one really kicked my butt the first time I did it. I used 3 x9 inch paper, just to make it a little easier on myself. After I'd done it a few times I tried it with dollar bills and it came out crazy awesome. I'm still a little freaked out that you can make one so tiny. I've got exceptional dexterity and I don't think I'd bother with anything smaller than 2 x 6 paper for this model. I've got a wide variety of wrapping paper that I use and a 12 x 15 inch paper cutter that cost about $50, Yeah, I take this stuff pretty seriously. Your talent with such teensy strips still blows me away. Subscriber for life. :-)
Didn't look at the watch how long it took, it was really frustrating in parts, but eventually I got it. Thank you for the tutorial and the videos, Jonakashima-sama, this thing is amazing!
Thanks jonaskashima! After reading your reply I realized that origami paper was too thin, and I started using copy paper. It solved my problem. Again, thanks.
Successfully Done! I liked the joy we get when we look at the WHOLE tetrahedron structure when finished.. :) Thanks for uploadind the video. It really helped me to understand the logic behind Entangling after 3 tertrahadrons were interlocked.
This is a very interesting and fun origami sculpture to create! Thanks so much Jo! It takes some getting used to but after you've mastered it the creation flows.
I've done it! :D Finally after trying this at least 6 or more times it has come together and worked! I used coloured printer paper. A4 is 210mm wide so I cut 70mm strips from it and it seems to work fine :D Will post a video on UA-cam of finished model when I get the chance :D
Wow, very cool! I recently built this same shape out of Zen Magnets, and it's interesting to see someone who's done the same thing with paper. Good job!
mine is just finished but it's not as tight as yours since i use 5 x 20 (1:4 ratio). so the stars made from each angle was not really look like it.. but i'm glad i finished it after 5 days :P (i'm too lazy to continue it in one day only) 1 hour to cut the paper on the first day, 1,5 hour per 4 days to assemble it XD
@BananaMirror what do you mean by "flat look"? My paper is not thick (regular copy paper, 75g/m²), but I think some paper thicker than origami paper would be better
i definitely wouldn't call this project easy--more like intermediate-hard in terms of difficulty. and the patience you need for this. my god. it took HOURS for me and i almost went from a relatively sane human being to a crazed psycho when i actually got past the folding part and onto the assembly of the model. a tip: USE TAPE yea yea, i get it. tape is the forbidden fruit in origami. but hey, if it saves ppl from going crazy...
I found pre-folding crease helps assembling units much easier. Glue will also help, not only when folding, but also after completed (without glue the model will be fragile).
I've made a few of these, and I find it usefúl during assembly to bear in mind that the vertices of the five tetrahedra end up forming the vertices of a regular dodecahedron- this may be useful if you are good at visualising the platonic solids
You can get origami paper from Michaels or other craft stores. Sticky notes works too! And for the cutting part....just use a ruler! Measure the square and divide that measurement by three and there ya go :)
wow, there was some swearing as i made it, but finally it's done! I just can't understand how can you simply SEE where the pieces go! I was like: "OK, so under the green one, between the white and pink and where the blue goes somehow like this in the video... SO where is this configuration in my piece??? "
@jonakashima What I mean by flat look is that when using origami paper, the paper is too thin, and it buckles and the module becomes flat, instead of being shaped like an L.
@swordemon101 ill try and make a video of this when i figure out how to do it myself. fold paper into 1/4s lengthwise. fold outer edges into the middle. crease lightly 1/2 of the RHS 1/4. fold the LHS corner to meet the crease mark & unfold. fold the RHS corner so that the top edge lines up along the previous fold and unfold. reverse fold the left corner along the crease (2:08) tuck the little flap under the RHS and ensure you can still fold in half lengthwise. bend RHS corner over a little
is there a rule used for the connection process. for example, at 7:20 you put the tetrahedron in the wrong but knew to take it out and put it in the write spot. did you use a rule or just a technique that might be helpful? please reply. Thank you.
Unfortunatelly its not perfectly visible how to insert each of the pieaces but i could make it in 3 hours... I used papers sized 18x6cm doubled the original...It looks amazing, i made all white. i loved it.
I didn't notice but you're right. Maybe more Latin people have internet access than in the past and obviously, not everyone know English language... Pero tienes razón, ¡asusta!. hahaha
Haha thanks for the tutorial :P I still can't figure out the pattern of intersection, i just one know that it has something to do by 2's.. oh well. Great tutorial, btw, i recommend people to use paper that is stiffer than the regular origami paper, it is too flimsy and doesn't look so great in the final outcome xDD
finally did it :) ~ 2 hours cutting & folding ~ 1 hour assembling ... was totally worth it, it's beautyful :) thanks for the good tut. !
Sameeeee
my face was your profile picture after finishing it lol
@@marcusbosnic1305 😆👍
I can never figure out where anything goes. :(
I just made one and it turned out so well!
Adding on the last tetrahedra was a little confusing, but what helped me most was understanding that each module of the combined three should weave under two modules.
Uh. For me it was mostly the fourth one that was really confusing, the last you kinda just had to fill up the holes (^_^
LaeiCi
Note to self: Do not tr this with only one color. You WILL get confused.
for only first times though :D all recent attempts of mine are in 1 color :D
Scolding Mime too late for me... :(
Scolding Mime o
I did one of mine with only 1 colour and I didn't find it much harder than using 5 colours.
Using 20$ bills. Super confusing but worth it

Love your tutorials Jo!! Took me a while but I managed to make one of these and I love it.
Thanks jonaskashima! After reading your reply I realized that origami paper was too thin, and I started using copy paper. It solved my problem. Again, thanks.

I've been doing origami for about 2 years and this comes easy to me. Learning for christmas tree decorating. THANKS for the clear tutorial. LOVE IT!!
Hey, this is the most recent comment and I saw. I was wondering do I need double sided paper? or can one side be colored and one side be white
@@drewwatanabe9075 you'll never see the white side unless you look for it.
Aaron Burson tysm
@@drewwatanabe9075 I used christmas paper and turned out nice.

Used the same colors and follow the video slowly ... finally did it. Thanks Jo for the video.
Just finished this, thanks for the tutorial :) Wasn't as hard as it looked, but still tricky to do model 2 and 3 into the whole thing.
Took so long to make, but I did it! Thanks Jo for this video!!
Im'glad and thank for your great tutorial.I regularly see your tutorials👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
thank you
I could never in a million years do this! Props to you!
@biksuska Yes, but the tetrahedra won't fit perfectly. There will be free space because the units are narrow

@MagicTRIXia make units: easy; assembly: very hard!
Make a remake for watch this with your modern format
This is gonna take me a few hours (best guess: about 4) but I'll do it. Will be perfect christmas present.
Done in less than 3 hours. Though I have done it before, but I wanted to do it again. Now I need more origami paper!!
@BananaMirror
what do you mean by "flat look"?

I FINALLY finished it after 3 months
@killabarosa15
3cm x 9cm each unit
@lollipopheartzxc thanks! it's 3cm x 9cm
Thks ! It took me 2 and a half hours =)) but worth it :D This is the best birthday present I've ever given to my gf :D
Thank you so much Jo! This was a huge help for my school origami project! Your awesome
Whew! Finally did it! Thanks for the tutorial jonakashima !!
this one gave me some experience in making origami and this one will complete my clearance,by selling this to other persons!

if u guys have problem finding paper of this ratio just tear any regular square paper into thirds, its not very easy but its the easiest alternative.
I used this in every star of christmas tree project. I always looks good.
This is really entertaining and helpful at the same time!
tysm for the tutorial jo! i LOVE it! thank you SO MUCH!!!
I like how it gets difficult towards the end of the assembly, cuz if i were doing that i smash it out of frustration :D yep i have no patience
thanks i just finished mine! looks so cool.you are my origami master!
Jonakashima is the best origami folder!!!

hello.
where do you get your papers from?? do the papers have a special name???
and how do you cut the papers with such precision?????
thank you.
I know right
You can get origami paper from Michaels or other craft stores. Sticky notes works too! And for the cutting part....just use a ruler! Measure the square and divide that measurement by three and there ya go :)
LOLOL my papers were 9x9 so ez
Man, I actually succeeded at this! :D I'm very happy with the result.
Such a great (and popular) video. Consider re-uploading in HD?
Hi ! how do cut your paper with precision ? or did you find it in a shop ? thx !
took me 2 hours soo frustrating.. but at the end totallllyy worth it cause it looks AWESOME in my roon
@Superstar547
30 units (6 of each color)
@985steven yes, if you're able to fold it
esta muy bueno!! lo he intentado no es nada facil! je je gracias. thanks a lot
You used 3x9 paper size so does that mean it’s also possible to use 5x15 paper stripes since they’re the same ratio of 1:3 ??
I finally made it thanks Jo Nakashima
прекрасная кусудама,отличная работа,сам попробовал сделать всё получилось всё довольно понятно на видео)
HOW IS YOURS SO PERFECT?!?!?!
I did it. Looks awsome. Love your videos. Thanks!
I did it! The assembly is a lot harder than the folding.
@laughterncryer no, they dont have to be 3x9. in another vid, they were 5x15. just so long as the paper's length ratio is 1x3, it should work.
geniooooo!!!!!!! sos un maestro,gracias!!!!!!!!
jonakashima you have the best origami thumbs up if you all agree
Jo is the master!
these are so much fun to make! :)
jonakashima you are a origami genious!
This is advanced and awesome!
Me encanta pero COMPLICADO desde Trujillo PERU gracias chao 👋
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial!
zomg the result looks as cool as it is, its so hard to puth toether tho !!! thanks for showing me a limit to my abilities ;)
AWKWARD SMARTNESS / SILENCE...........UMMMM

aaaaand 6 hours later i finally finished it haha. really fun though! i made the mistake of trying to use all white, too confusing lol.
@jonakashima What I mean by flat look is that when using origami paper, the paper is too thin, and it buckles and the module becomes flat, instead of being shaped like an L.
exactly, there is a difference between being intelligent and being knowledgeable.
Hi, does it has formula to put all those triangle stuffs? How do you know that which one pass through which one?
great work jo! keep it up!
Very good thank you♥
Nice picture. The origami Flasher Big Bang.
Thx for making this video jo! I did it! =)
YUS SOMETHING TO DO WHEN I'M BORED IN CLASS!!
Cool. Could you give me step by step instructions on how to make the basic units that you join together into triangles?
I can't really attach these together. Any suggestions for adhesives to work with to tie them together?
FINALLY!!! it took me like 3+ hours!! but i finished!!! yeaaaaaah!
Oh my god this took me like 5 hours but it looks awesome
Why would You dislike a video tutorial with everything shown perfectly?
@SuddenAttackspy Yes.Usually origami paper is 15 cm so each piece should be 5 cm wide and 15 cm in height.
@swordemon101 ill try and make a video of this when i figure out how to do it myself. fold paper into 1/4s lengthwise. fold outer edges into the middle. crease lightly 1/2 of the RHS 1/4. fold the LHS corner to meet the crease mark & unfold. fold the RHS corner so that the top edge lines up along the previous fold and unfold. reverse fold the left corner along the crease (2:08) tuck the little flap under the RHS and ensure you can still fold in half lengthwise. bend RHS corner over a little
great model. I also did it with 21*7 pieces but, i thing, it looks better small.

my brothers reaction to the vid-pic. "it makes my head hurt"
my reaction... "(O_O) what materials do I need and how do I make it" XP
materials: paper and fingers
this guy is blowing my mind
I didn't notice but you're right. Maybe more Latin people have internet access than in the past and obviously, not everyone know English language... Pero tienes razón, ¡asusta!. hahaha
You could use almost any size rectangle as long as one side is longer. The angles might be a bit off, but I made one of dollar bills.
what kind of material do you recommend for a constructing this with 6.1cm edge length to to have the overall product nice and sturdy?
That was fantastic!!
I've made 6 so far. It's way once u get the pattern. Use glue if it doesn't stick. 80g paper is stable without glue
hey, do you need cola to fix the pieces?
i finally finished my rasta tetrahedra. it took me 1 day to finish this BIATCH
I'm thinking of having a go at this piece so was reading comments to see how others got on
Haha thanks for the tutorial :P I still can't figure out the pattern of intersection, i just one know that it has something to do by 2's.. oh well.
