"Bahia" (a.k.a. Baia or Na Baixa do Sapateiro (cobbler street zone ?) is by Ary Barroso. He also wrote "Brazil". Bahia is a stqte in Brazil, state of the city of San Salvador, its ancient capital. I believe the song is about a "longing" (a popular brazilian theme: "saudade" --homesickness for a place or person). He meets this beautiful "morena" in the humble site of a zone loosely translated as "cobblers street". He tries to hug her, squeeze her and kiss her, but she eludes him forever.
Music like this lives forever. Nobody is composing music like this.
Thanks for sharing!
A magnificent song from a magnificient vocalist, with superb arrangments and backing. It doesn't get any better than this.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written or recorded
Lovely!! maravilhoso!!
Lovely song from Perry's Lightly Latin bossa nova flavored album from 1966.

Rates with any of the great Brazilian melodies but you don't hear it as much as a lot of the others.
