Beautiful bike... And what a nice place to live - I have been close to the sea most of my life and the sound of the seagulls, is giving me a home-feeling...
What a beauty, my salutations! .... that's some commitment to restore the only icon running "wow" didn't knew much about Matchless motorbikes, my interest in Matchless bikes grew when my Dad said my uncle had one I contradicted named quite a few other British bikes but knew nothing about Matchless but Dad affirmed it was a Matchless. Like someone wrote this bike would have given Harley people goosebumps. My uncle sold off the bike once he met with a fatal accident ..... would love to own one someday. Though I have a Royal Enfield and an Aprilia. Great keep, best wishes.
I can't believe there is 9 thumbs down, I would love to see what they've built. I can restore to a good standard but you haven't restored this bike you have engineered it into a beautiful bike, beautiful engine and you live in a beautiful town, I would consider calling you beautiful and believe me thats a big call for me if you spend the next 6 years building me one.
Nightster, There are more "Keyboard Mastercraftsmen" than you could shake a stick at but none of them can tell you how to start one of these "Pieces of Art". You already know that, Greetings from Michigan, USA.
Thanks for taking the time to get this up here. Can't imagine what some folks have against hearing some gulls. They just evoke a happy seaside feeling with me. The incidental music's a bit anachronistic though. Much as I enjoy Surfin' Bird, something from the late '30s like Glenn Miller's In the Mood or maybe Gene Autry's Back in the Saddle might have been more appropriate.
Thanks for your positive comments, impossible to satisfy everyone...some people love the music, some people hate the gulls, 12 people don't like the bike, 326 like it.... I did what I wanted, I did what suited me.... If I did what everyone else liked, I might as well take the video off, but I appreciate and thank your positive comments...les phelps
Superb machine. Great combination of vision and engineering. I love all V twins. My 1942 Harley WLA has a a leather scabbard for a Thompson sub-machine gun you may need one for those gulls. By the way you are driving on the wrong side of the road. ;-) Enjoy that beauty and ride safely. Mike, Athens, Greece
I fell into matchless a little more than 10 ago, i own a g3 l fron 41 and a 46 g3 l this one was transformed in italy whis benelli rear suspansion (see benelli 250/500 from 1936) this is also a unique motocycle and very lpeasant to drive, have easily falls under the spell . 👏🇫🇷
When the British produced quality products , unfortunately the wars bankrupted their economy so all products were made to suit the low standard of living and poverty and austerity , people could barely afford anything and the nation tried to export their way out of their problems .
The other Matchless feature of the time that should have gone to the Model X is the cantilever, monoshock rear suspension from the Silver Hawk and Silver Arrow. I wonder why Matchless omitted this from their top of the line Model X? By this time, in addition to Matchless’ Silver bikes New Imperial, HRD-Vincent and of course Brough Superior had cantilever rear suspension.
You are a genius, sir. Beautiful bike, great sounding-engine. The looks on the faces of the neighbours watching you roll by. And hey, I love that song Surfin Bird!
Sir, what is her top speed and acceleration? I understood that her frame is largely custom-built, so how does she handle? And her brakes, for a Brough Superior spec engine, designed to attain high speed, are her brakes adequate or have you ever felt the need to install discs?
Hi, frame is standard Model X, 1939. A Brough SS100 has. Ratio of 3.5-1.. This has a ratio of 3.37-1..this should be well over 100mph..This engine pulls a Morgan 3 wheeler car with 2 people...my opinion..its the most beautiful V twin engine ever made....and bulletin proof....The brakes are period, original...meant to be used about 30mph..if they were original asbestos linings..they were as good as modern...many thanks for your interest....les
These are the back streets of St Ives in Cornwall, if you look at the harbour and beeches ...porthmeer beech for one...it's probably the most beautiful fishing town in Uk...thanks
beautiful bike, and the video would have been much more enjoyful withouth that mbbaabbaabaaa musik in the background. people interested in those bikes prefer to listen to the engine noise.
Fantastic one-off, non-original custom bike. Those headers and mufflers strike me as a little odd in their bends and placement, ditto for the frame mods, but this is a great home-brew machine nonetheless. Dubbing it a SS100 is a little off-base in linking it as some "equivalent" version of the mighly Brough SS100 that, indeed was an original, non-customized, homemade machine. That sound track only adds to the impression made by this, ummmm, building exercise. Sheeze.

One of the most outstanding bikes I've ever seen, fair shout.
That’s a great bike sir.. And ridden along one of my favourite stretches of road which I discovered in 1991 on my trike.
Absolutely STUNNING.
Well Done!!!!
Beautiful bike... And what a nice place to live - I have been close to the sea most of my life and the sound of the seagulls, is giving me a home-feeling...

Why did they never build that at the factory. Thats gorgeous. Would have given Harley a run in that day.
Beautiful quality engineering that Britain was once capable of .

It's more beautiful than a new bike.
The exhaust sound is wonderful.
I don't need music.
If there's ever a "dream bike" then this is it!
A thing of beauty. I love the way the white features pick out details. The valve springs are almost funney to watch.
Without anoying music this is much better
Simply beautifull !
Excellent on all points!

Sweet bike - but I nearly shut down the video because of the intro music...
I suppose one mans meat is another mans poison......I love it, but thanks for continuing with the video....les
I'd rather have the intro music than them there seagulls! Haha. Having said that, they're doing what seagulls do so thats ok.
It was my understanding that everybody knew that the bird is the word...
A well a bird bird bird b birds the word
Don't you know about the bird? Well everyone knows that the bird is the word.
Total stunner and star wherever it goes no doubt.

When you consider surfin bird is from 1963, most music was boring, this was crazy!!.. Just love it!...thanks for your support..les phelps
Handsome machine you have there but surely that's a lot of work to do just to get it to "match" your pint? :D
