I grew up at 16 yrs old in the Chicago suburbs working at a BMW dealer. My boss liked me and trusted me and let me learn to drive stick on his 88 BMW M5. Also drove an orange 635 CSI with gold bbs wheels, the 850s and 93 M3s new - at 16. Also drove a Shelby replica AC Cobra and a 67 Corvette Stingray convertible. Years later after moving to Los Angeles working for a company I found out my customer was Carroll Shelby and got a private viewing of his collection there. I love cars. I love older BMWs.

That is a stunning E28! I have an E39 as my daily and an E30 that I lusted after for 25 years and I adore both of them. It's getting harder and harder to find these gems (especially with a manual transmission), but I love to see examples like this. You cannot beat older (2004 and older for me) BMW's for classically beautiful styling and a drivng experience that has to be experienced for yourself, you just can't explain to someone how good they are. I love that analog feel when everything is going digital these days. And a crack free dash?!?! That is about as common as a unicorn!

Awesome car! I'm more of a Benz guy myself, I do agree with you the E28 is probably one of the most elegant saloons ever. And it sure was more of a driver's car than a Benz of that era. I'm a lazy driver, so I prefer a W124. To me both great saloons from an era when cars were fun and it was not considered wrong to enjoy them.

I've got a 535i in Australia, has 380,000kms and is still in amazing condition, full service history from day one from the previous original owner.
I've got a lot of maintenance, repairs and plans for this car, once the rebuild cylinder head comes back from machining.
Oh, and a manual conversion is high on the list of desirable mods to it.
There's something about older BMW'S that just can't be explained until you've owned a few, I've lost count now.
    Keep up the great work!

It’s great to see these sedans becoming a pinnacle in a subdued racing facet. As an owner of a 1 owner 528e, I can now understand and appreciate the build quality and road drivability it has . Slow, but I like it that way. It has a certain attitude in the way it initially dives into the turns like no other vehicle, ever!
And with the way it absorbs bumps, I feel like it was the best 5grand ever spent on any vehicle purchase I’ve ever made. Btw, 37mpg hwy mileage out of a gas 6 cylinder…hmmm, how come you don’t see that in any modern 6 ?

Absolutely everything you spoke to in your vid is spot on! It is one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. The 3, 6 and 7 series vehicles from this epic lineup in the 1980’s are also stellar in their styling and build…the e28 somehow always floats to the pinnacle of their styling at this very special moment in time near 40 years ago. I wonder if you like M-B 124s? They are quite lovely as well. Lastly, you have to get these vehicles in euro spec with the shallow set bumpers! Just wicked, the car you spotlighted!

My neighbor owned an 88 M5 when I was in college. Every single time I saw him drive it, I was absolutely transfixed by it mann. Years later, one of my buddies owned an 86 535is that I actually drove and I was hooked. I've been mysteriously drawn to these cars since my graduation from high school wayy back in 1983. A new Buick dealership in Philly had a 79 733i on their lot for sale as a used car trade and I foolishly thought I could convince my Pops into assisting me in buying it and he told me no way. Upkeep & maintenance repairs would be wayy too expensive for me to handle. All the right reasons. Today, I own an 86 M635Csi as part of my small personal collection. I'll never sell it. I still do hope to some day add an E28 5. Thanks again for the great content. #respect

I love my E46. Beautiful 328i mystic blue metallic sedan, vintage of 2000. My dad got it in 1999 when he graduated out of business school. He handed it down to me, and I love that car. It has a lot of issues now and me and my dad have made it a project car in our garage. But that car had no issues up until 220k miles, and it has over 250k miles on it now. That car handles so perfectly, it really is excellent as a driving machine. BMW not so long ago made real quality cars, that were beautiful, a great combination between tech and analog, and a masterpiece to drive. I miss old BMWs, they really are awesome.

Great vid, great car. Had an E28 a few years ago, only the 2.0 but it was a straight 6 and it revved hard, manual box too. Some bellend ran into the rear and wrote it off.

Please absolutely make more videos like this. I absolutely love the E28 platform. This particular example is perfection. I've been watching your progress for some time now. Please bring in more old school flavor. Sr. 7. E28. E30, etc. More analog Germans, please!

I'm a big BMW fan, mostly of the 90s and 00s but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Love the presentation.

More videos like this! With the loss of magazines and even many feature websites this type of content has been largely absent from automotive media for the past few years. Miss seeing y’all’s cars at events on the east coast. I also need some good, old fashioned motivation for my recently purchased E36. Keep it up

Really enjoyed this. Was a nice change of pace!
How 'bout doing a shop/tool tour and or a walk through on all your current builds? I think new subscribers especially will enjoy it.
Keep up the incredible work you're doing.

Yes, more of this please! Absolutely love it. Wouldn't cut anything out, but would be keen to hear a little more about the mods / set up (coils, exhaust, drivetrain etc). Keep up the good work!

Best Part: historical context and videography
Opportunities: longer ride along/noise like smoking tire, more info on chassis and drive train mods, before and after photos and some commentary from the owner to break up Mike's narration

I had two E34s and LOVED one more. I had both a 525i manual and a 535i auto - and the 525i manual was by far more enjoyable. Subtle grey/green Delfin exterior and beige interior. Super classy. And the sound of that straight six. Sublime. Before the E34 my boss had an E28 535i which convinced me to go for a 5-series.

Had a couple e23s/24s on e28 platform so it counts and best of bavaria were round the 80s. Miss them. Still got a pair of e23 euro bumpers and side/front trim stored around the yard. Love the sharp missile shark look all e12/e28 based cars have.

I'm a Merc guy, but, a true car guy. I've owned a BMW and can appreciate the passion ANYONE has for their favorite ride. Thanks for sharing the details. Just makes me wanna go deeper into my passion for the W203 & C209 C/CLK Mercs. ⬅6 speed manual swap?😁

I'm more of a purist. Had a tii. Had a 533. Had a couple 535is. The block in my current one will always be the block in this car but I dig what you guys are doing. I also had a near-mint E12. The new ones are meh for the most part but I got down yesterday in a Zed4 with about 500hp it was rad. Thanks for the sharing!
