Xiaomi smart Gateway [V3] - But is it good?? Xiaomify
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 січ 2020
- Xiaomi just released their long-awaited 3rd generation Smart Home Gateway / Hub with Apple Home support. -But is it a real improvement? Let's find out!
Find the Xiaomi Gateway here on AliExpress: bit.ly/XMF_AE_XG3
Here on BangGood: bit.ly/XMF_BG_XG3
Here on GearBest: bit.ly/XMG_GB_XG3
This new model of the Xiaomi HUB comes with Zigbee 3.0, it serves as a Bluetooth hub and it has Apple Homekit support. It's only 9 x 2.5 cm in size and it gets powered using a Micro-USB cable.
It differs a lot from the previous generations of the Smart Gateway in the sense that it does NOT have a built-in speaker, it does NOT have a ring of LED lights and it's not plugged in the wall directly.
This model does function as a Bluetooth gateway which allows you to pair any of the Xiaomi compatible Bluetooth Mesh devices. This by itself is nothing that special as basically all "bigger" Xiaomi products that have been released recently actually have a built-in Bluetooth hub. -So that's not that impressive...
What is more impressive is that it supports Apple Homekit, so you can pair it with the Apple Home APP. -Again this is nothing that new as the Aqara hub also offers this functionality, and that gateway has been out for almost 1.5 years now as well.
In broad terms the Xiaomi Gateway V3 is a trimmed down version of the existing hub that does not have a speaker, it does not have an LED light and most of its core functions are pretty much the same. (If not also trimmed down...)
Needless to say that the Xiaomi Smart Home Gateway V3 does not really feel like a big upgrade to this HUB.
Yes, it has a newer version of Zigbee...
Yes, it functions as a Bluetooth Mesh HUB...
Yes, it offers Apple Homekit support...
But is it really enough to call this the V3?
If you want some of your devices to work with Apple Homekit and/or you need to be able to connect more than the 32 devices you have connected to your existing gateway: you might still want to pick it up.
But personally, I would have loved to see some more exciting improvements in the V3 of what was already a very well functioning hub in the first place.

wish you could havve a video comparing xiaomi gateway and aqara hub...im still very confuse on the difference and which to choose!
anyway..great works!
Very late to this, but looking at a hub since new Xiaomi purchases are relying on Bluetooth mesh instead of wifi.
Thanks for the video - HUGELY useful! I have the old Aircon plug control which includes a hub so I'm currently thinking I'll just stick with that if it works.
Like you, I'm a big Xiaomi fan and will aim for Xiaomi solutions wherever possible. Honestly, it's good to see you post a negative review of something because it underlines that you are being honest (never in doubt, though!) in your reviews.
As an Android user, I'm a bit peeved to see Apple Homekit compatability while it is INCREDIBLY difficult to get Xiaomi things to work with anything other than MiJia over here in China. I understand why, I get it, I accept it. Still peeved!!!
When’s “what is Xiaomi doing” coming back? 😭
He would need to make a movie xD
The only advantage?
• use as a secondary hub
• supports Zigbee 3.0 & bluetooth mesh
• doesn’t block the power outlet
I guess I’m keeping my Aqara hub. Otherwise with this new hub, I’ll have to buy a separate device for doorbell and alarm. Thanks for the honest review! Keep ‘em coming!
Yes. ZigBee 3.0 is an important advantage. Because most new devices (like Opple switch) will be ZigBee 3.0 and will not work with previous versions of the hubs
Okay fair enough; if you don't have many power outlets it might be good to not block it. I agree with that :)
The Bluetooth mesh is not that impressive any longer as I have over 8 (regular smart home) devices from Xiaomi with such a BLE hub built in. So that is almost a 'normal feature' for it to have...
Zigbee 3 is good to see though :)
Andrey Kurapov but Zigbee 3.0 child devices can be added to the Aqara hub. It doesn’t have 3.0. Just that somehow we can’t add 3.0 devices to mijia hub
HGST I believe its just backwards-compatible to Zigbee 2.0 maybe?
Ahmad Nazir Afiq yup but why it can’t backwards itself to mi hub? 😅
I purchased this hub mainly for the Mesh Bluetooth. I found it takes the load off the gateway mesh Bluetooth embedded in the small clock. I have about 15 Yeelight Mesh Bluetooth bulbs. It is very cheap as well. It helped speed up response times for the mesh bt network. The WiFi is more reliable as well. Version 3 of Zigbee which is a more open standard.
that's why i bought this one too. now I got the Mi hub, aqara hub and V3 Hub. Hopes everything works in EU now. The app is set in 2 regions, EU and China.
Can you connect to Xiaomi Mi Box S with it?
I bought this hub to make a smart home. I also bought some xiaomi smart sockets. because I bought eu smart sockets (Power plug layout) it can only connect to the EU servers. The new hub can only be used with china servers. I bought some switches. I cant use them because of the server difference...
thom schraa , you mean what? I’m living in Sri Lanka. Can’t I use this hub to connect to a motion sensor and a light switch ?
I have same problem EU plug and Gateway HUB 3 doesn't work!
The new hub/gateway is now available on European servers :)
The earlier hubs dont have zigbee 3.0?
Xiaomi has so many hubs it's hard to keep track of what is the best hub for my needs. Where can I see all the pros and cons for each hub or something to help decide which hub to buy?
I would like to see an hub compatible with Google home...
Me too! Sucks that we can't get it working with Google nor Alexa
Do what i do, use Xiaomi stuff with homeassistant and link homeassistant to google home and all my Xiaomi stuff works with Google Home
compatibility with google home is blocked by google not by Xiaomi. you have the option to add your account to google home but for some reason, google blocks the pairing and it never happens :-(
@@SimplyAwesomeness So how you link homeassistant to google home?
@@machimos2salkgwef by the same way when you connect any account into Google Home App
Do Bluetooth devices also appear in HomeKit? For example the Mi Temperature and humidity sensor? This would be a nice improvement/upgrade!
I couldn't get my hub to pair with an Aqara temperature sensor and it won't find the bluetooth temperature sensors even though it says "works with Mijia".
I think for someone who doesn't own much smart devices and don't own the previous gateway, it's great for the price.
Aside from that I think it fantastic as is because I didn't want the led light to begin with and neither the alarm it didn't serve any purpose to me. I'm only connecting the ceiling light, camera and the roborock.
This gateway should be cheaper.
By the way, I use a custom sound for the alarm that I edited where the first 20 seconds of the mp4 is silence and after that the alarm rings, that allows me to enter my home and disable it before it starts ringing.
That is actually a great idea! Although I was more referring to people that share an account and receive notifications of that alarm going off. (like my parents for example)
When my mom comes home my dad will get the alarm ringing notification on his phone. It kinda makes them ignore the alarm altogether because of it being such a daily occurrence.
yeah i did that too as found no other way. sometimes the app takes time to load the current alarm status so its not really convenient to switch off or on the alarm from the app, hence why this feature is desperately needed. cant seem to understand how this has not been implemented yet
chinese make cheap reliable products in terms of hardware but they really lack marketing and services knowledge...all the chinese products I have lack something in the app or the way to achieve a task is difficult to understand and every update that fixes something manages to break something else...reliability is missing and software is always buggy...if you ask for a feature they always say "yes, we'll do it for you, great idea" but they never do it :))))
You have very high quality videos, please keep it up!
You could make more videos of this product, how to introduce accessories, with authorization, how to use with Homekit and more more more. Thank you
Does it work with the Yeelight Candela (shown in the background in the intro)? I'd like to add mine to HomeKit.
Bump!!
Xiaomi stopped all promised integration with the Yeelight Candela and moved to other products. Not going to happen sadly.
I love that it's only USB powered instead of the way the older ones are powered. This sounds more like a preview version and I bet there will be another V3 version soon.
How about Google assistant, thats not working?
Google assistant is not working as of now; especially since its a China-Mainland oriented product (at the moment) I am not sure when that will be implemented.. I do read that quite some people love that its USB-powered. I guess it kinda makes sense that this is a good thing. **I personally liked how the V2-models plugged in and worked as a night light at the same time, but I suppose not everyone has power sockets available for that :)
I always wanted to buy this (older) but was expensive with shipping 🙄
I do agree with you, it's not an upgrade at all!! And yes, are they planning to start cooperating with Google Home and Alexa?? Most of the random Chinese smart devices have it, but not Xiaomi. I became a Xiaomi fan after watching all the videos in your channel some 2 years ago.
Which hub should I buy to work with Global server? PLEASE HELP!!
I'm using the old and new versions of hubs together as they have unique features and can work together just fine. What I need is the ability to add custom sensor/device
Love your videos... does this hub mean that my xiaomi air purifier pro becomes homekit available?
Is it possible to play a proper alarm or sound when door is open for example?
A trimmed down product is actually better, the low quality speaker, ambient light of V2 are actually not a good sell in points.
Also, the biggest upside is that its new version does not block other outlets on a multi-socket power points
Hello, Some questions:
Which one of all these hubs connect to EU?
the v3?
the v2?
the aqara?
Cant find the EU version, does this one connects to the EU server? IF it doesnt, whats the difference, i mean why is it bad that it connects to china?
Is only the EU version compatoble to google home?
Does the v3 has the same/more pairing child devices then the v2/ the aqara?
IF i use it with the MI APP, do i loose some functions compared to the v2 gateaway?
It would be nice if u help me :)

you are right, this hub is not very sofisticated. but i believe is because the conceived it as a gateway more than as a hub to run by itself. I have the M1S, but as you know, it won't talk to Aqara BT door locker. M1S has not bluetooth.. So this Gateway [ protocol translator ] allows mihome app to talk to more devices.
This should def be the second hub, not a primary one. Its really frustrating they didn't add Alarm delay function (after triggering)...
In my setup I use ver 2 on EU server and this one on Chinese server. I run mihome app as dual apps, which is ridiculous of course.
Yeah its still far from ideal for users outside of China (especially ones that have bought Chinese products as well as local products)
I hope that this will be one of the things Xiaomi will tackle this year!
Great video again. I have still waiting for mine, from what can I 👀 it's still more to update on this Gateway. Keep up the good work peace .
Thanks DeburMi! You've been waiting for yours for quite some time already right? I think all orders must have been delayed for Chinese new year.
I do hope some meaningful updates will be added in the months to come :)
@@xiaomify I havr ordered last year in December at preorder, after I 👀 your review I can still wait more maybe they release the BIG update until will arrive.
just want to mention thath the I bought a bluetooth door sensor and it connect to the hub but not to the apple HomeKit
Is there anyway to import the hub and the sensors into the Google home eco system? I've got the v2 model. So I've got 2 systems at the same time. Got my yeelights set up with the Google home and also with the Xiaomi hub so I can use the switches and sensors.
Would love for Google to incorporate the hub, sensors and switches into the Google home system.
Yes, just integrate xiaomi home app with google home.
@@Allard9240 xiaomi home app not showing on my list of services. Unless its in Chinese and I can't tell by the logo. I'm in the UK. Another service Google needs to implement is yi camera and blink camera.
@@Allard9240 what country does the Xiaomi hub need to be connected to? Mines on Chinese. Is it the Mi home that's on Google home as a service? If so, got that but the hub does not show. Any help most welcome
hi
what is difference between this model gateway 3 and Xiaomi Smart Home Hub 2 ZNDMWG04LM ?
Do you guys now where I can buy a Xiaomi gateway European version so that I can connect to EU server? I have a gateway Chinese version and it doesn't allow me to connect to EU server. Here in Portugal we just have available a pack with sensors, but I just need the gateway. Please help.
EU Gateway not sold separately (not even in EU or in China). Only way how to get is to buy Xiaomi Mi sensor set (around 100 USD) which contains it. Or wait, if anybody sell used unit somewhere on the internet.
Is this gateway also compatible with xiaomi devices from China mainland product?
Thanks for your great video... I would like to buy Xiaomi smart Gateway V2 global version EU plug... but I can't find it. Do you know where is the best place to order it?
why the notifications of the alarms do not arrive on the iPhone can you help me?
can it add non-xiaomi devices to the hub through zigbee?
Did you succeed?
how to show xiaomi gateway 3 child like temperature or door /windows sensor into home kits app
Can I connect this to my alexa echo dot 4, ikea tradsfri bulb, innr bulb?
Hey please make a video of Generation 4 Hone Hub. Its also useable local whule the others arent...
Can i connect this hub to xiaomi zegbee electricity plug?
Hello XIOMIFY, thank you for your reviews.
I would like to buy some of xiaomi devices, but when i search on websites, i found 2 versions Aqara and Mijia.
Would you please explain to me the differences betewen them ? do they work both with MiHome ? and wich one do you recommend?
where can I find the eu gateway?
You work is amazing! Great video and review! So which hub do you recommend that works with HomeKit and xiaomi devices?
Have the answer yet
imo the v2 is the best option so far
is it work with google assistant?
No way, I wanted to buy aqara products but the aqara hub was too expensive for me, but now i can get this one and still get aqara products
On a good side it’s now charched via usb so can be used for example in UK where v2 would need be plugged with wobbly dongle. And problem with speaker hmm maybe it could work like v2 but after connect I’m Bluetooth speaker or something
Does it connect to EU servers?
No, I have it and it does not
Can we connect wipro lights to this?
What about google home? Does it work with google home?
I think it’s now compatible with IKEA smart home devices. V2 isn’t, at least on my China Server Aqara hub.
The link shows It’s actually 30USD right now. Not sure what’s the reason for price hike.
Great video as always! Just wanted to mention I’m not a massive fan of this device either. It actually supports 64 devices according to the support page, but that’s still not enough of a bonus to make it a great update. I think the Aqara M2 will be a better option when it comes out.
Thanks! I have checked it again but the details page on Xiaomi mentions it can only connect 32 Zigbee child devices. (Maybe the 64 you are referring to is including Bluetooth mesh devices?)
I am personally a bit disappointed in this one as well and looking forward to the Aqara M2; I hope that they will do it slightly better.
(Although from the images that I've seen of the M2 I don't think that has a speaker or LED lights either)
xiaomify I could be wrong in that perhaps! Someone corrected me when I originally wrote it was 32 device, so I’ll double check. The M2 does have a speaker apparently, but no LED, which I can live without, but it also has an Ethernet connection and support for 100 devices, so it’s already a winner for me.
Will this gateway make the non homekit bulbs like the Mi Essential Led Bulb homekit enabled?
Can i use others zigbee dispositiv
do thes types also conncet to google home things?
im pretty sure all mija devices work with google home
@@domie2372 would be logic but you never know, as i gotten more google home things im surprised about their lack of compatibility
@ there is a long, and i mean a long list of products that work with google home. for xiaomi, everything that works in the mi home app, works with google home as well :D
ZuYT not really, I have Aqara Switches that worked with Mi Home App. But it didn't sync to my Google Home.
Is Xiaomi hub works with Google home? Can i use it with google assistant
Does this V3 Xiaomi hub work with Aqara smart switches? Seems like the Xiaomi V2 is better
Please SHARE an AFFILIATE LINK for the Xiaomi Gateway with EU PLUG and I WILL BUY it, thanks!
I got this gateway, but I don't understand which Bluetooth devices I can add too it. It shows a list of Zigbee devices when choosing that option. Somebody here who can explain it too me perhaps?
Can this device remote control an android BOX or an android TV ?
Hi, i have a question... It is possible to get Automation planned between child devices that is connected by different gateways.
For example when i click the wireless switch (connected to Gateway V2), i want it to get info of Temp on the BLE Temp n Humidity sensor (Connected to the Gateway V3), then from the info decide to tell the universal IR blaster(connected to the Gateway V2) to switch on the air-conditioning or not.
Is it possible? (Sorry if noob question)
P.S please do make a video on how to set this kind of automation (i.e between different gateways)
Hi thanks for a great channel, I do see it a lot. Now the V3 can support Apple HomeKit can you then take any Xiaomi product and use with Apple HomeKit trough this V3??
Thanks - best regards Mikael - Denmark
Are you able to link it to google home or alexa via mi home app?
Love your work! This is the most important HomeKit device for Australians IMO because of the lower entry price in Apple’s ecosystem. Sad to see the v3 is not as good as v2.
Yes; from that point of view, I do agree! It is the most affordable Apple Homekit Hub on the market.
But compared to previous iterations I do feel like the Aqara HUB (although slightly more expensive) does offer some more flexibility. But then again; I do like the fact that this Xiaomi V3 is USB powered as it will be a lot easier for people to use it wherever they are :)
@@xiaomify Is there a new version of the Aqara Hub coming soon? Any info?
Hi, can I configure it to read the sensors and send the data to a private server? Any server other than the manufacturer's.
Can you make a review about the Smart Home Hub 2
I bought it and use it as a hub for my temperature and humidity sensors. However, in Europe there are not many devices supported. I tried to register this device after selecting China region in Xiaomi app, but it didn't work and showed something like unsupported device error. The home kit shows only child devices, but what is interesting that the temperature and humidity sensor with display can't be assigned as a child device, only that one without the display
Almost agree everything with you. I’m setting up my intelligence home system, then I realized the only good PP ration LED bulb are from MI, esp. E14 one, but sees all Mi LED supports ble mesh only. I have a aqara M1S, which supports Zigbee, it will not work
Hi, may i know if i will be able to connect to the hub remotely when say, im not home? Or do i have to be connected to the same wifi network as the hub to access it.
do you think that setting an automation as "if temperature sensor says temperature < 20°C" then "turn on Xiaomi Mi Smart Space Heater S @ 20°C"? I can't really find any info about that heater ...
I still love the Mi hub V2.. it has everything inside.. I hate the Aqara hub since it doesn't support the smart lock door nor it can show my all child devices status on the app.. that's why I will stick to my all in one Mi home V2 ( that's the best ) .. amazing Video by the way :-)
how to i connect a mi water leak sensor to this mi hub?
Works with google home? Can i connect mi mi temperature and humidity monitor in it?
Your videos have been really helpful
I have a question, and too many videos to go through to get the answer
Can I connect any Yeelight to the Mi Home app and gateway so that I can automate it in a way when the door sensor is triggered, the light will on?
I know that lights have been mentioned to be automatable but I'm unsure if Yeelight is one of them
Thanks!
Hi dude, nice video. Can this new hub can be paired with the previous hub. Does all the yet connected sensors etc connect to the new hub automatically or do I have to choose wich sensor is connecting to wich hub? Or can I just add this hub to cover more space in my home because I thinks some sensors loose 'connection' from time to time.
Does it support zigbee 3.0 protocol?
Update: stupid me, yes it supports, its mentioned on the video
Is this also usable as a WiFi mesh or range extender?
I am trying to add an other brand zigbee bulb. But i have no clue how to do that. ..anyone having advise?
Can the V3 gateway be opened up to platforms like Home Assistant? The Mijia V1 I have can, however, I believe the Aquara versions cannot.
Probably it might soon.. As it's not out for that long and (currently) still is a China mainland-only product it might be a little while though..
BTW You actually have a V1 of the hub?? WOW! I might still want to get one of them if I run into them someday..

Is it work to connect mi bluetooth led bulb (Release 2020) or not?
Hi, love the channel! Do you think this hub will ever be compatible with Google Home?
hi, where can I get V2 with EU plug? I cannot find it anywhere. thanks.
I believe they're out in France, Italy, Spain, Poland, etc.. I have also ran into these hubs in Singapore and Philippines so they should be around. If you're looking for them online I think that the usual suspects will have them as well. (AliExpress, Gearbest, Banggood, etc)
@@xiaomify All my devices are in European server, this Gateway is not avaible in my Mi Home App. Do you think this will be changed? And Great Video, again! You are the best!
I’m looking for the Aqara hub with the EU plug as well, but on Aliexpress i never found!
I was worrying if I made a right decision and bought Xiaomi Mi sensor set which contains the EU Gateway (DGNWG05LM), but after this video explain, I´m hayppy with mine EU Gateway, especialy if I´m using moded Mi Home app (by Vevs), All is functional, all have superb response, the LED light and speaker on the Gateway are really useful and thanks to moded Mi Home app, all chinese stuff is under German server (especialy I´m happy with Yeelinght ceiling lights, I instaled them all around our apartment, but they are sold only in CN market, that means that originaly you need to use CN server or Yeelight app where you can add them freely to any server, but you know, why to have two separate apps...).
Does it support Xiaomi laser projector or not? The laser projector remote control is Bluetooth enabled handset...
I have a Google Nest Hub at home, will it display certain notifications on the Nest Hub as well?
Doesn't it work under different locations then China? The V1 does not work in Europe (the app doesnt find it)
Yes, i bought 1 from China and configured it to connect to Germany server it was still able to connect to aquara temp sensor
Thank you. Just what I was looking for!
Very useful thing to have. Shaving everything,
If it supports Bluetooth mesh, were you able to somehow add Yeelight Candela visible on your video to it? Got few of them for over a year now and still looking for a possibility to add them to Google home without running python scripts on Raspberry PI
Hi there. I have the v2 European hub, and I live in South Africa. My question is, can I pair Aqara child devices, like the aqara smart bulb or the aqara smart plug? Thanks
What gateway (Aqara or Xiaomi V3) would you recommend me as a someone who now starts with smart home. I mainly interested in the lights, sensors, switches and plugs. Absence of speaker and LED strip doesn't bother me. If this is only downside then Xiaomi V3 would be better for me since is also cheaper? Do you know anything about release date of next version of Aqara hub? Maybe better wait for this one.
Does this hub supports Xiaomi Philips Smart Downlight? If yes, will I be able to use the downlights via Apple HomeKit?
Add aqara b1 curtains to your home kit?
I need this explanation so that i can plan and decide which one to buy for which room
Hi . I love your videos.
I have old sensors that work with the xiaomi mijia gateway 2.
I want to buy the new xiaomi gateway with zigbee 3.0 or aqara to use with HomeKit, i needed to know if my old sensors still work with this hub´s.
Which you recommended? aqara or mijia with zigbee?
help would be most welcome.
thanks
Can I use this with a xiaomi door sensor to send an app notification to my iPhone if my garage door is left open.?
Can this hub be used for the Mi temperature and humidity sensor record data?
I love your presentation, It's really cool. BTW I was going through your video and I couldn't find Aqara roller blind motor review. Please make a video of that.
Great videos. I have an gateway hub 3 on EU server and want to connect it to the Apple home app unfortunately it doesn't work. Can I connect it if I buy this product? Pretty frustrating, I also can't use the Mihome app on my Apple Watch.
how's the range? same as the previous version?
I guess I will buy another v2 hub. Some of my sensors suddenly can't reach my main v2 hub.
