I've listened to these stories so many times, but truly thank you for finally filming it I cant wait to show your great granddaughter how amazing you were in the future. You are a legend and your stories are gold, its an honour to learn about cars from you, honestly the best grandad ever.
Ivan, what a fantastic life you've had. You talk a lot about famous people who's name you can't remember and all the luck you've had. I think I can remember your name, my luck is in finding your youtube channel, thanks for everything.
And ive said this before but im so so glad you have done these vlogs. Thanks to everyone involved, susy and tania and others as this is better than a book
Really enjoyed that been a mechanic all my life would of loved to do the things you’ve done but got married at 20 on lousy wages but finally got racing when I was in my 50s
I've watched lots of his videos and this is one of his best. Ivan is always complimentary about the people he's dealt with, never slags them off, modest and self effacing about his own abilities, describing much of it as luck, and is always amusing. Great fun.
I'm so pleased I found Ivan and Shed Racing. Great stories and I really enjoy seeing the projects - and Ivan out and about. I've got a bit behind on things for health and life reasons, but I'm determined to get myself a welder and to learn ro weld ... I just need to build another shed so I've got some space to get around the three dead mororbikes and woodworking tools and get moving 🤣. Thanks Ivan for the inspiration - it's much appreciated 👍👍
My favourite old age pensioner…..🙂 Only joking Ivan, I sure hope that I’m still living my life to the full at your age…. You’re an inspiration to us all…………🙂
I was really amused by your comments about John Lyon and can imagine how peeved he was when you whopped him, not once but many times culminating in him protesting your car only to have his fail scrutiny. Having spent many hours with John as my Instructor on the High Performance Course I got to know him very well and even better when we did the 1992 Mitsubishi Marathon together in my Riley 1.5. He was totally focussed on winning so I can feel the pain that you dealt out to him. A great talk and I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you so much.
How fantastic, thank you Ivan for sharing your stories. Could you do more please? Your Shed Racing videos are my UA-cam highlights to. Thanks once again and hopefully I’ll get a chance to shake your hand one day.
Bugatti was dominant in racing through the 20's, but by the early thirties other cars were surpassing them in HP. Over in the states, the rules had been changed at Indianapolis so the Millers cars which had won so many races were now not legal to run. So a fellow named Leon Duray took 2 Miller cars to Europe and was very impressive, setting some track records and placing well in races. Ettore Bugatti was impressed with these cars and when Duray had to return to the USA, Bugatti made him a deal- he traded 3 new Bugattis for both the Miller cars. He then took the Miller engine apart and literally copied the head dimension for dimension making just enough changes so it would bolt to his block and the head design gave him 50 more HP and made his cars competitive again- that car with the Miller head was the type 51.
Ivan, you've really brightened my day with your chat. You're a real life achiever and you continue to do some fabulous automotive achievements. Thank you for sharing your memories of your "brilliant motor sport career".
I always enjoy the episodes of Shed Racing but this one tops them all so far! Thoroughly entertaining and interesting in equal measures. Just brilliant.
Well that video is still about an hour short . Someone ( Suzy ) needs to sit down with Ivan and get the full , start to finish no details left out edition . Many thanks for letting us sit in with you .
@@suziepilkington5600great films and would love to hear more detail , no need to skip from year to year so fast let’s hear Ivan’s tales and the stories he’s happy to dig into - it makes great viewing thanks
It's good to hear these stories from people like Ivan - could never happen this way nowadays. Was fortunate enough to meet Gerry Southby in the course of my work a few years back, (one of Jim Clark's race mechanics), who told me some great stories about his time at Lotus and about the great man himself. Didn't have time to watch all this video really, but couldn't stop watching once I started! - thanks Ivan.
Absolutely fascinating as ever, no such thing as luck just pure talent, what an awesome understated legend Ivan is. The very best insight into racing and car stuff Love it all…
Thank you for sharing your life story with us (so far) it's brilliant ,and a film script waiting to be made. Keep making the videos for shed racing very entertaining (much better than BBC)
Thank you for allowing us to relive some history through your telling of it.This time flew by and my coffee grew cold as I was so involved in just setting a few feet from Ivan the Wonderful. Brilliant video.Thank you again.
Ivan, that was great, I think you have had a very lucky life, but you got it because you had faith in your self, too many people don't believe in their own ability, you just ploughed on and won. And you have found a good friend in Susie.
I was lucky enough to live just yards from Ivan and Tim in the 70’s, that was a great memory lane story for me…if I don’t get a chance to pop in between now and Christmas. Have a great Xmas mate👍🏻
