Elegoo Arduino Uno Super Starter Kit - What's inside?

  • Let's take a look at what comes with the Arduino Uno Super Starter Kit from Elegoo, including an overview of the included components, a preview of the tutorial guide, and a few project demos.
    Note: When I initially plugged the power supply into the breadboard, I didn’t align the positive of the supply with the positive rail of the breadboard (I should have spun the breadboard around so positive lines up with positive on the supply). It would work fine if you wire everything up correctly but you should always connect things up using the labelling so you don’t accidentally hook something up incorrectly if you follow the wrong labels later.

      Yeah it’s easy to put the projects together and get a result fast and introduces a variety of types of things that may touch on someone’s interest. Blinking lights or controlling motors or using sensors, something for everyone.

      It was definitely a good kit. I found the tutorial instructions easy to follow and I can see how a complete beginner would be able to get through it no problem and even somebody with experience can still learn things from various sensors they have never played with before. It’s a good bargain.

    I got the Elegoo ultimate starter kit a few years ago and I was very pleased with it. It came with a Mega 2560 rather than the Uno and a similar, but larger, collection of modules and accessories.

    I got one of those (barely) used for $20 a few days ago here in Canada. I'd say someone needed it for a school course. Most of the stuff is still sealed inside. Although mine has the same things, the branding is different as well as a few minor graphic changes. I really got it because it was a good deal and I took the chip of the arduino so I could use it as a ttl programmer for a new stm32 nano board. You can just hook the tx and rx pins to the other board.

    A great review - very thorough. I think I learned more about these types of kits from your video - I just glazed over the kit I received in my last video.🤦‍♂️ Also, I noticed that this Elegoo kit drops to CAD $29.99 in Amazon.ca Lightning Deals, as it did on June 3 -- a great value IMO. Thanks for the video.

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  5 років тому +3

      Thanks! I need to watch for the Amazon deals more often. Even though $35 already sounded like a good deal, getting down through the psychological barrier into the 20s sounds even better.
      I noticed your comment got automatically flagged as spam probably because of mentioning Amazon.ca and UA-cam thinking it was a link, so I fished out and approved your reply. I wish there was a better system in place because I have to do that often...

    • @MindFlareRetro

      @@GadgetReboot Spam? Oh, good to know. I won't pot comments with that URL anymore.
      If you are a Chrome user I highly recommend adding the very useful Keepa extension. It injects an historical price data chart on every Amzn product page and even can alert you to price drops and upcoming Lightning Deals. Looking at the the Elegoo product page right now shows another upcoming Lightning Deal on June 10 -- screen shot, ibb.co/BccSyXT

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  5 років тому +2

      Oh I didn’t know we could get historical data and upcoming deal alerts like that. Thanks! I do use chrome so I will check that out.
      Anytime anyone posts a comment on here lately with a link in it, there’s a 90% chance UA-cam will automatically filter it and sometimes it doesn’t even put it in the Queue for me to approve, sometimes they just delete it even though it was somebody trying to post a helpful relevant link. It seems like all of UA-cam is one giant beta test now.

      @@GadgetReboot Great [sarcasm]. I'll have to keep checking my spam folder now too. Beta test, yeah, have you been following the whole Click Through Rate changes? I'll have to get more creative with thumbnails now.

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  5 років тому +2

      Yeah, thumbnails and titles apparently are where it’s going , with less emphasis on subscriptions. Seems like it will be a Clickbait battle ground. It’s interesting to see how recommendations keep changing over time from the same people teaching best practises and trying to keep up with all the changes.
      One thing I’m still waiting for them to confirm, they are going to start rounding off the subscriber numbers and the big question is, will that impact the API that people communicate with to get live subscriber count data for their display projects. It’s going to be a lot more boring to see the number stay at 8000, then jump to 9000 suddenly on an LED counter...

      Hey hi. I don't know crap about these kits but a friend of mine is a robotic expert and he made amazing projects with these simple kits from amazon. Are the parts reliable? He has programmed an Arduino to use as a car computer for his Mercedes and it works A1. He told me everything that bad boy does to his car and it's not even believable.
      About the parts that you've asked, all the part names are listed in the kit descriptions on Amazon.
      For the Super Starter Kit you get all these parts plus the box:

    Naughty, naughty, naughty. You installed the power supply incorrectly. Please point out that the power supply can only be installed correctly at one end of the bread board for the + and - rails to be correctly aligned. You got the positive of the power supply on the negative rail of the breadboard.

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  5 років тому +3

      Good point, the initial test fit wasn’t paying attention to the polarity but I did it correctly on the final stepper motor demo. And it’s correct in the tutorial guide that people will be following.

    • @DrexProjects
      @DrexProjects 5 років тому +2

      Some are like the one you are talking about. The DFRobot one is like that. But this one is branded different. I have a few other types that are reversed polarity also. So maybe this one is correct. It was hard for me to tell when zooming in. Some mount on the left side of the board and others mount on the right side. But I do agree that it looked wrong. It could be right depending on which type he has. Or his breadboard was upside down.

    • @iandawkins2182
      @iandawkins2182 5 років тому +2

      I understand, just pointing it out as when I started not many channels clearly stated that this type of power supply would only be correct at on end of the bread board. Just trying to help people not make the newbie mistakes I made not so long ago :-))

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  5 років тому +2

      It was backwards on the initial test fit but it was correct on the actual stepper project later. I never thought about making sure the polarity was right because I always just look directly on the power board itself but people that are just learning shouldn’t adopt my bad habits!
