- A brilliant afternoon spent at the always busy station of Watford Junction on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from Virgin Trains, London Midland, Southern, Freightliner and London Overground.
Watford Junction is a brilliant station at the best of times, but today it was completely bonkers because of signalling issues around Berkhamsted which was throwing services way out during the whole morning. So a lot of London Midland services were being heavily affected along with a few Virgin Trains services having to run through the station at a much slower speed. I was going to film on the St Albans Abbey branch but because of the severe delays it would have meant that I would have missed several services thundering through. My next film is at St Albans City on the Midland Mainline.
You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2016
The reason why Virgin Trains don't allow passengers to board Euston bound trains is very simple, and can be put into one word: Revenue. Ticket checks cannot be completed on all 11 or 9 coaches between Watford and Euston and therefore that would allow people with cheap day returns or single's to use Virgin Trains, which is classed as a premium operator on the WCML hence the more expensive fares. Therefore all tickets to Euston from Watford are LM and LO only.
Ah right ok thanks very much for clearing that up for me. I must admit I never really put much thought into it before but after reading that it does make a lot of sense
Great video and even slow 390's are beautiful :)missed Chloe lol and want to thank her for her comment back ;)
Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I'm sure she'll be making more appearances in my films in the years to come ;)
I certainly hope so! You look awesome together and wish you the best. And it is nice to have your girlfriend by your side. I certainly know that it is nice spotting when you do it together :) A uncle from my hubby has the same hobby as we but his wife always go with him but it is not her hobby. They are married for 45 years now.
So you saw 390104, 390107, 390040 and 390151, all you need was 390103, looks like you had a great mixed bag, a huge thumbs up from me Jarred. 10/10
I was well chuffed by that, I didn't even realise I caught them until I read your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed watching this mate

19:28 - same situ. in Stratford on the GEML where trains from Norwich set down and then on return, they only valid for passengers to board.
Just doesn't make much sense to me
Tornado922 it is odd but it happens tbf 😂
From 2020 London Underground will start running from this station
Really? What would be the point when London Overground are already running services to London Euston, they connect to the LU network at harrow for the Bakerloo line services. That really makes no sense to me
***** It won't be the Bakerloo line that will be extended to Watford Junction; it'll be the Metropolitan line. They're currently building a short section of new track between Croxley and Watford High Street stations. When that is complete, the Metropolitan line services will be diverted from the current Watford tube station to Cassiobridge, Watford Vicarage Road, Watford High Street (where it will join the London Overground line) and Watford Junction. This extension will directly link Watford Junction with Baker Street tube station; it's unclear whether services will terminate at Baker Street (as they now do from Watford) or if they'll be extended through to Aldgate. Watford station itself will probably be closed (although there is some rumour about running a parliamentary service there).
Here is a Wikipedia page about this extension: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croxley_Rail_Link
That being said, I do agree with you that this extension makes very little sense. The London Overground will still provide a much faster (albeit marginally less frequent) service because the Metropolitan line services will run along a fairly lengthy detour via Moor Park, which would probably add about 10-15 minutes to the journey times. So if you are a London commuter living in Watford, you're still better off catching a London Overground train anyway (and you're definitely much better off catching a London Midland train!).
(Apologies for the GCSE-grade essay ;D)
I know of the extension that you mentioned, I travelled on the LO line from Wembley to Watford Junction earlier this afternoon and I saw the works being carried out outside Watford HighStreet, looks like the line only needs another 60 or so metres and they'll have the connection that they need. Although surely if they are having Metropolitan line services running into Watford surely they would need to add additional platforms? From what I have seen in the past they have 2 LO services sat in the platforms at any one time during peak time services, they may not need to but with all of the additional trains running there then you would have though that the TFL would have to lay on additional bus services, either that or the mainline TOC's will have to be very creative with their train services. But then by that stage there will probably be more LU trains running on every network within the capital so what you'll find is that there may be very well more lines running to the suburbs connecting up to the existing networks such as the Northern and Central lines and then branch off to even more routes. I could bet talking complete rubbish at this stage but we'll see within the next 10 years what happens, it may even be sooner. Looks like I may need this grading aswell ;)
KasabianFan44 nice
Awesome! Could you buy any chance do trains at: H&W, Bushey, South kenton and Wembly Central?
Thanks very much, I've already filmed at H&W, Bushey, South Kenton. Just need to get the films uploaded, I tried filming at Wembley but the station wouldn't have worked for me
oh ok
great video there a massive like from me and hope fully I can film with you at Wigan or Preston
Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed it

Great video jarred mate got all the liveried pendolinos nice work plus what are you doing after london station you just going around every where
Thanks very much mate, I was surprised to catch all of the liveried units, yeah I'll be going back around the country again
Did you see the bif operater sign on p5
the bif operator? I don't think so
cool do they give you a tone
Sometimes they do
Would you rather take national rail to London Euston or overground
National Rail as it is quicker and more comfortable
I’d agree
Why was they all passing at s slow speed?
Because of signalling issues earlier in the day which was causing havoc on the WCML around the Berkhamsted area, caused a back log of trains and a lot of delays which meant trains were travelling within a couple of signal blocks of each other
do you Still wave to the driver
I do if I have the chance
