Yes I do! It is called "Eric Johnson Style Pedal Tones" and can be found in the Advanced lessons section of my website. Link is in this video's description. :)
Thanks for taking the time to show the correct way of executing this technique. By all means talk on bro you articulate your words very well, I understand it clear as can be.
I've known about math rock bands like Polyphia and Chon for years now and it's my favorite genre But i didn't come here to learn how to hybrid pick for math rock I came to hybrid pick for Death By Glamour from Toby Fox's Undertale
Great lesson, it is fun to work the right hand because we usually think it is our "good hand" but if we can't put this exercises together maybe our right hand needs more attention!
How do you train your fingerpicking fingers to remain stationary? I am hybrid picking a rhumba-style tune, where my I use the plectrum to pick a bass string, then fingerpick high E, B, plectrum then E and B together, then plectrum pick a fill on bass strings A and E, then back to the high-string pattern, but I often fluff the to-ing and fro-ing (not when the two fingerpicked strings are B and G)?
Man this is to cool for school, I think this is the start of something great. Drop the pick you are playing classical, keep the pick Country and Jazz comes to mind. i watched this late I was up half the night pick cool song that use this technique some not to hard like Say John Mayer. The Chain and Gold dust woman banjo licks on a guitar sound cool the whole Rumors album, MP3 LOL or CD LOL That's right my boy Eric can play this in his sleep. Rock on
Paulie Felice more attack in low-mids when riffing it has a different sound. Higher octaves appear louder so I guess having a pick on lower octaves also evens out the perceived dB experience.
Paulie Felice yes but most people are more proficient with a pick as thumb picks take a bit of extra practice to get comfortable with. I like to choke up on the pick so there is very little material between the strings and my hand. I’ve never been able to find a thumb pick that gives the feel of that close precision. I think they could be invented better. Different gauges and lengths of pick points would make me interested in learning them better. They all have they same feel to me in these retail stores.
Paulie Felice sometimes it’s not always about what’s best for the moment as it is about what’s coming next. Hybrid picking leaves you the skills to perform harmonies and then quickly go back to lead shredding and sweeps.
Had an accident at work, lost the tip of my first finger on my picking hand, also cut thumb on same hand losing feeling and fusing the first joint in the thumb. Had to reinvent picking technique. Is there any advice for learning this hybrid technique? I tried a thumb pick but it’s at the wrong angle because of the accident.
Hi Carl, Thanks again for a great lesson and I am new to hybrid picking (this is my first attempt at it) but can I ask a stupid question? I have been playing figersytyle for some time and have completed your Classical Gas lessons(Thanks again) I am struggling a bit with the pick and seem to do better if I just use my thumb to follow the patterns, so I am not sure what the advantage of using the pick is at this point?
does it help to grow the nails on your right hand for your hybrid picking? I feel like it would make the notes a better dynamic range if you did am I right?
Growing your nails out is more for tone, but you'd also have to shape your nails. It's not really required, especially for electric guitar. So, yeah it's for a better dynamic range, but it'll make more of a difference on a classical and maybe acoustic guitar than it would if you play on an electric
Hi Carl, great lesson and start to this technique. When practicing pentatonic scales with this technique, would you use alternating pick + Index finger for scales or would you just use alternating Index and Middle finger to go through the scale? Thanks!
How long should it take before you get proficient at this style of playing?? I've been practicing this style of playing for 6 months and it doesn't feel like I'm gaining any ground on doing it proficiently or to where I would want anybody to listen to it.
I wonder this as well. I wonder if I should focus on each one individual or learn them all to a comfortable point and switch between them to keep it interesting.
@iwannacapo Guitars are hard to get all the way in tune. When you get open chords sounding good then chances are your bar shaped chords are gonna be a little out of tune. The best I've found is to tune it where they are both SLIGHTLY out of tune but correct that with your playing habits.
More of this and Hey! Soul Sister Great lesson. I have lot of videos on this hybrid picking and finger style. This is new to me. Easy but new . Great lesson
I just wanted to start learning math rock or prog it seems so intimidating but that’s probably because I want nothing to do with the song being played immature I know but I learn my own way lol
this style of arpeggios i studied on the Mauro Giuliani book...."120 Arpeggi"....it's a book for classical guitarists...but it's very useful also for modern technique :)
I have fairly thick, not fat, but just big fingers. My fingers are seriously big boned. They aren't very stubby luckily but haven't caused me many problems. I play with my thumb over the neck and all. They make guitars with thinner necks ya know?
do you know about Django reinhardt? he was lightning fast with only 2 fingers, have you seen video of people without arms playing guitar very well and playing solo's? WELL YOU SHOULD
joe doe Look up John Myung, he is a small little Asian dude that shreds on bass better than most guitarist's. I shook his hand and it was tiny. Don't let your hands hold you back.
I honestly came here because I found out about Tim Henson and Polyphia
same
oh my god me too
Same
I'm trying to learn the G.O.A.T riff but my hybrid picking is terrible so I came here
I love Tim Henson but I came here because I want to learn jazz
By far the best lesson I’ve seen on this subject on UA-cam . Great job

@jewelfewel It's an Eric Johnson signature strat. Thanks!

Great lesson, but how do you get fingers THAT long?"???
lol. I would hate to have this guy as my proctologist
@@michaelflorant8641 🤣
I need something more basic in slow motion. Lol
Special finger food.
Well my grandpa played for years and his fingers stretched
Best lessons from rock to country. 👍

That's why I'm here
Me as well
Cheech Marin YES!
You too? Nice to see that I'm not the only one 😁
Grow has a lot of hybrid picking on it, so it's def something I would like to learn it.
Carl, nice lesson - looking forward to the rest of the series
@Ventalei :) Thanks a lot!!
Excellent intro into hybridpicking. A lot here to analize, digest and practice. Thanks
Agreed, excellent introductory lesson. However, I think you mean 'analyse' - 'analize' is something else! (Thanks for the chuckle though.)
I looked this Up because I bought this Made in mexico Squire Stratocaster and Im in love with Funk And that Popping noise from single Coil Pickups
@diabolododson Sorry, but my girlfriend doesn't like to hear me speak either, so this is my only outlet. :)

Hybrid picking is insane 🤯
"Ok, here´s a lesson on hybrid picking."

Excellent. Thanks.
Such a great tone. What amp do you use?
the same principle works really well with villa-lobos etude 1
hi when you go to the third string are you moving your right hand to pick the B and E string?
defiantly the best on you tube
The song "Slow Cheetah" by RHCP brought me here. Thank you!
NICE LESSON AND NICE GUITAR.
Great lesson!
Thanks for this! I’m practicing, it’s been a long while. So I’ll need lots of it lol
Excellent lesson thanks.
This basic pattern is the first example in my Pumping Nylon Classical Guitar book. Interesting...
Great Lesson... Thank you!!!!
Great Lesson
Is a beautiful Bach classical piece, nice way to use hybrid though.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Are you holding drumsticks or are those your fingers?
With no hybrid picking 🔥🔥🔥
What is the benefit to using these patterns for hybrid picking versus just using your thumb to play open-hand?
Paulie Felice more attack in low-mids when riffing it has a different sound. Higher octaves appear louder so I guess having a pick on lower octaves also evens out the perceived dB experience.
@@kalebmyers9146 cool, so using a thumb pick would achieve the save effect but also free up your index finger?

The pick allows for different tonal characteristics and the ability to play faster and louder. But you can be successful without the pick.
does it make sense to use pinkie with hybrid picking? Like to play classical compositions on electric guitar with pinkie instead of ring one?
My question: fingernails or use the pads of picking hand?
When you pluck the strings in that first excersice, do you have to hit all the strings or just the E B and A?
does it help to grow the nails on your right hand for your hybrid picking? I feel like it would make the notes a better dynamic range if you did am I right?

someone ever went from classical fingerstyle picking to hybrid? what's ur feeling about this?
If the problem gets worse the higher up the neck you go, then I think yes, it could be the intonation.
