    Strimmers and brush-cutters always get used at all sorts of angles. I wanted to upgrade my brush-cutter, looked at battery ones but crazy prices, ended up getting a Makita backpack 4 stroke. Absolute beast and the engine stays upright when I'm edging flower beds and pathways. Like you mentioned about oil, this Makita only takes 90ml of oil but has a window to quickly check the level. Get one whilst you can, Makita are selling off a lot of their petrol engine equipment and stopping making petrol engines altogether.

      @@seanmck2602 - maybe it could if it was adapted. The flexi-drive shaft comes out of the back of the engine but the engine swivels for right-handed use. There's a stop on the engine mounting to prevent it rotating for left-handed use as the pull-start and fuel tank are on that side. It's very close to being ambidextrous, shame it isn't. It's a Makita EM4350RH

    Thanks! You may have saved me and some others the heartache of damaging our expensive hard-earned tool. Now I'll know to at least check the oil level say monthly, if not every time i put it to use. Seems a lot less hassle to unscrew an oil filler cap than to take it in for a service.

    Same, when using 2 strokes all the time it's easy to forget to check the oil tank. Would think like a lawnmower you wouldn't have to on a regular basis with it being 4 stroke.

    Hi there, thanks for the video. I have a Hyundai 4 stroke (35cc) brushcutter. I was running it on regular gasoline and was running into overheating problems. I found out this was due to the added ethanol in the fuel. Now I use Premium fuel (in Europe this is euro 98 or shell v power) these fuels contain no added ethanol and now all is fine. In winter I use Stihl 4 stroke fuel by the way.

    They are very reliable engines, just always keep check on the oil. Keep the carb cleaned. She will never have a issue besides basics. Like a Stihl 4 cycle. It'll run for good.

    Probably your lubricant on stick has dry. You need adding some grease in there. I got that case to. But my machine is backpack type. The flexible shaft is hot until smoked and my wire cover melted. After i opened it, my flexible dry. The factory doesn't give grease enough. After i giving grease, its normal again😊

    I usually tell customers to bring one of these in for service when the oil has darkened to a brown colour, or if its been topped up a few times. And thats the other thing with these engines, they are well able to burn oil and need to be topped up regularly. Like you said, the oil capacity is small so they fry it up in no time. Great video btw, not too many people have made reviews on these

    • @WoolysWorld
      @WoolysWorld  3 місяці тому

      Yes indeed, they liked oil, I wish it had a bit more power, any tips for getting more out of it

    • @alexhickey5633

      @@WoolysWorld probably a bigger carb and if you have the know-how, port it(enlarge the intake and exhaust ports a little). There arent any performance parts available for these engines as theyre so small. You could try a different exhaust or gutting the current one but be careful as itll run hotter and burn up the exhaust valve. Like 2 strokes, a 4 stroke needs a bit of back pressure. Other than that there isnt much you can do. You could however try make a frankenstein of a machine and put a gx100 on there but it would require a lot of work and i do mean a lot. They have a gx57 available aswell which is in the same engine family as what you have. And should get you a little bit more power. Theres only so much you can do to these engines to modify them for power. Gimme a few mins and ill see if theres anything power-related for these online. Last time i checked there was very little

    • @alexhickey5633
      @alexhickey5633 3 місяці тому +1

      @@WoolysWorld nope, nothing there besides a different exhaust and carb for those who use them on motorised bikes which would render your machine almost unusable. Theyre mainly aesthetic parts and the carb is a gravity feed type-not good on a strimmer

    4 stroke engines are great for their torque and longevity, but in applications like a strimmer where they’ll be used at angles that starve the engine of oil, and have a small oil capacity that’ll have it run dry and lead to big damage in a short amount of time, they’re not well suited.
    Stihl struck a good balance with the 4mix, an engine that’s a 4 stroke for the most part, but without an oil sump and instead uses 2 stroke fuel mix for lubrication.

      @jaarryifleshblood315 5 місяців тому +1

      If you get a 4 stroke trimmer like Makita , Honda or any knock off 4 stroke that has a similar design to a Gx31 , they are designed to run at any angle. All of the oil rests on the oil slinger cylinder were it becomes a mist and lubricates the parts to allow to operate at any angle without burning the engine up. Mtd 4 strokes that are cheap have an oil pan and are not made to work upside down.
