    I love your honesty about Serato. LOL! I personally love Serato but it's good that you aren't going to say just what people may want to hear. I am anxious to see what you got in the next video.

    Good video. I have the s8 & really like it! I have 2 Technics hooked up to the s8 so I can manually beatmatch if I want to. Coming from vinyl, most controllers feel cheap (even Pioneer) and I've come to realize that there is no perfect set up. In today's world I think if you want to be a dj, you really need to know what it is you want to do. What is djing to you? There are some djs who feel that using sync is a crime and I've found that the truth is, most bars (or small venues) will not let you bring a controller into the club and look down on djs who use sync, fact! However, things are changing. Back to the s8, yes it is "sync" driven but when you use timecode or real vinyl fore me it shines! You have the best of both worlds! I play everything and love the flexibility of the s8! Plus the price is great! And as you said, if you love EDM (for me House, etc.) which I do, it works like a charm! Again great video!

      Thanks so much for the thoughtful comments! One of the biggest things for me about a controller is that it is self contained - meaning I should not have to buy or get anything else to maximize it's functionality. Out of the box, the S8 doesn't really work for me. That said, I would be the first to say if you like the Traktor workflow, the S8 is probably an awesome controller for you. Lastly, I personally have no issue with sync. I will say that as I have gained more experience I use it less and less. While this means mistakes happen more often, my performance feels more organic and honestly djing feels better when I don't - sort of like driving a manual transmission vehicle instead of an automatic. Thanks again!

    VDJ8 works 100% with my NS7III. Touch strips don't always work but other than that I've had no issues. Its the only software I use with my NS7III. Good Luck

    Serato is the primary software used, I would have to agree with your statement. I'm a traktor guy as well and I when I started i fell in love with the ease of the traktor software and have yet to look back.

    Why did u buy the NS7III if u dont like Serato ? did u not check 1st if the jogwheel's work with the software u use ?

    • @DJRoubo
      @DJRoubo  7 років тому +1

      DawntreaderUK....Great question! First and foremost I wanted a turntable like experience without having to purchase turntables and a mixer. The NS7III was the best representation of that. And while Serato is my least favorite DJ application it doesn't mean that I can't or won't use it. Everything is about managing compromise.

    • @DawnHub666

      OK, but just seems silly to buy a Serato controller when u hate Serato ? I like your idea for the perfect controller - I have just got hold of the X DJ-RX - It is completely amazing. It ticks nearly every box - The no lap top thing, the no need for latency/delayed software. The all in one thing. But only having 2 channels is annoying, If it just had a 3rd channel to plug in 1 XDJ700 - And also the fader and jogs ar not fully designed for scratching. Vut on my budget it goes a long way to fulfilling every thing i wanted.

    Sir, When I am in B2B combat and if we are doing hiphop and the opponent is Serato DJ. I easily beat them with Traktor S8. Traktor is made for competition battle in live (as dmc champions designed it). There is also BPM control on S8 and I love how they change it to knob, its more accurate and you can do massive bpm change transitions in live with your own idea instead of downloading someone elses BPM transition. BPM control is the man key feature of S8, you just missed it!. i also dont use sync. Im multi genre DJ, hiphop edm dubstep dnb. cant imagine that i can do these with Serato. new Virtual DJ sucks too! you wont find anything like Traktor especially if you dont make pre mixes and mix depends on crowd after reading the vibe.

    can't wait to see what you you purchased. I myself started learning Rekordbox DJ and I am considering purchasing the DDJ RX. Serato is Excellent. But there are features in Rekordbox DJ that appeal to me.

    • @DJRoubo
      @DJRoubo  7 років тому +1

      Check out the next video but may I suggest a DDJ SX2? The DDJ RX is a great machine but it ONLY works with Rekordbox. the DDJ SX2 is almost the identical controller and works with everything. Just a thought. Let me know what you end up with.

      DJ Roubo Lol. I am using The DDJ SX2. there some functions that I don't think they work, the sample capture doesn't seem to work. also I like to create saved loops and trigger them from the device. can't figure that out with the sx2. maybe you can help me figure it out
      Thanks

    I would pay the shipping and would have shipped the sl's madness lol. plus any 4 line USB mixer can be made to work with traktor DVS.

    I was currently a serato user with a ddjsb2. I need to have a 4 channel controller. would you pick the traktor s4 over the ns7?

    • @DJRoubo

      I would take the NS7 ii over the S4.

    what kind of laptop can you recommend to dj with?

    • @DJRoubo
      @DJRoubo  7 років тому +1

      How much do you want to spend? If money is no object, get a Mac. If cost is a factor, almost any laptop within the last 3 or 4 years would work. I bought a Surface Pro 2 for $300 with an i5 CPU/8 GB Ram/512 GB hard drive and it works quite well. I also tried a $100 WIndows 10 Tablet and even that (almost) worked. Give me some more details and I'll be glad to help.

      DJ Roubo thanks. I am new to djing. i am doing it a few months now. I had purchased a pioneer ddj sx2 and a rmx 500.I have been using a old HP laptop which I had for years and I think its time for a new laptop. yes cost is an option. Everyone told me buy a Mac book pro. but I have too problems. 1) the cost of it and 2) it have only two USB ports. when I need 3 USB ports to connect my flash drive. the rmx and ddj sx2. any ideas on how to get more USB ports on a mac. or should I go for a good windows laptop

    • @DJRoubo
      @DJRoubo  7 років тому

      lol....I always carry a four port USB hub with me when I use my Macbook Pro. There really is no getting around it. You can find an older laptop with the specifications I have listed for a couple hundred dollars that should be fine for DJing. Chances are you will have to go with a Windows based machine to maximize performance.

    Thats why I love the Old CdJ Players, Serato, Serato and more fucking Serato is in every Dj controller. wtf ? 🙄🙄 Im also using Tracktor, in my case, its ok. I need make Remixes with very good Sync. And Tracktor does it very well.
    The Pitch on the Recordbox, sucksss. 😊 Good Luck !

    I stoped watching the video when I saw it's shot in 16:9 and posted 4:3.. facepalm!
    Rekordbox Dj it's crap on XDJ R1, you will not like it. I started with traktor, then used Serato Itch and Serato DJ, then on XDJ R1 (the most stupid controller, great with usb stick or cd) I've tried rekordbox dj and virtual dj and they are shit, I WANT MY SERATO BACK!

    Thought u were gonna tell some faults with s8, wasted 6 mins of my life :(

    • @DJRoubo
      @DJRoubo  7 років тому +4

      1) It requires you to use Sync if you are going to maximize its functionality.
      2) There's no real way to interface with the music outside of pressing buttons (aka there are no jog wheels)
      3) While the displays are nice there is no easy way to configure them for personal use.
      4) There is no pitch fader which means it is much harder to change the BPM of a song.
      5) knobs are plastic in a way that doesn't give you a good tactile feel when using them.
      6) The knobs also scratch very easily.
      7) If you want to maximize remix decks and stems for personal use, it is very time consuming to configure.
      8) The build quality is very similiar to other Native Instruments products which sit sort of in the middle between cheap and professional.
      How's that? :)
