    I've found that bullhorns work even better for me than risers. I get a bit more leverage while climbing and in a headwind, I can rest my arms on the horns and get out of the wind. Drops definitely suck on the street, I only ever use them in the track

    I can ride dang-near whatever I want. But skinwall tires? No. Just no. Why would I want structurally-inferior tires that get mucky? Just give me a set of GatorSkins and call it a day.
    As an aside, though. I just completed a build on a higher-end steel bike (sorry; not fixed). I have never been a steel guy, but I kinda had to build this one. I must say, this bike is amazing. Smooth, quick. Steel is not unreal.

    for the oval chainring question
    I used to ride it on my single speed mountain bike and it ran fine with no problems and as for cadence it did smooth it out a bit but I'm not sure if it would make any difference on a full on fixie.
    2 Things are for sure, 1 it would look awesome and 2 it won't really hurt to try.

    • @khazsilverstar
      @khazsilverstar 9 місяців тому

      I cannot compute.. your chain was way too loose in that case: oval chainrings are meant for derailleur bikes only

    • @kuma_score7536
      @kuma_score7536 9 місяців тому

      @@khazsilverstarthat's a common misconception but the chain length doesn't actually alter with an oval chainring and even if it did it would be so marginal that it wouldn't have an effect or be hard to account for. as the chainring moves into the taller portion on height it also gets narrower front to back by the same degree causing the chains tension to remain the same.

    • @khazsilverstar
      @khazsilverstar 9 місяців тому

      @@kuma_score7536 if my chainring is not round I notice! Without the derailleur picking up the slack, only very few teeth engage causing friction and wear. When skidding there's also a big shift in the forces which causes teeth to just break off.

      FIFA 1 I ride the lager frame only and I love it. It’s not the prettiest or lightest but it has a comfortable flex but not to much. I’m always on my back wheel, bunny hopping pretty big drops, throwing my bike from falls and it’s pretty straight and zero dents

  • @orrcazz
    @orrcazz 5 років тому +5

    Oval chainring will absolutely not work on a fixed gear bike. They need a derailleur to handle the change in slack between the two extremes.

    • @theonlyalan731
      @theonlyalan731 5 років тому +2

      I ride an oval chainring on my single speed mountain bike which does not have a spring-loaded chain tensioner. Never dropped a chain or had an issue with the chain be coming overly slack. If you do the math, the chain rap is always the same number of links so the only thing that's changing is the angle from the top of your cog to the top of the chain ring. Trigonometry says that that tiny bit of angle change doesn't make for much more length. It may seem counterintuitive.

    • @rollinrat4850
      @rollinrat4850 5 років тому

      Sure it will work. Same number of teeth is the same circumference as long as teeth have the same pitch. Its common sense but maybe not intuitive.

    • @jojo_is_a_go5893
      @jojo_is_a_go5893 5 років тому

      Untrue. I ran an oval chainring for a long time on my old Fuji feather fixed gear. When the oval was vertical there was very little slack. When the oval was horizontal there was plenty more slack but not enough to drop the chain at all. I rode this way for 2 years before selling the bike.
