This video is the reason I pulled the trigger on the 4.5-30x56 version and I’m extremely happy with it. I looked a LOT of the big names in similar price and magnification range and I’m very satisfied with the purchase after trying out half a dozen or so competing models
@@sidstevens4896 I can compare it to a couple other optics tonight. We're in a waning full moon, probably 75-80% so that may skew it a little bit but I can take a look
Just got a Christensen Arms MPR 20” in .308. Paired it with a Griffin Armament SPRM, Trijicon Tenmile 5-50x56, and a 45degree mounted RMR Type 2. Throwing spare Magpul bipod on for break in and zeroing, leaning towards a MDT Cyke, but still shopping around. F Class here i come!!!
NOTE*** I’m aware that 20” is a somewhat unconventional choice for barrel length. It is what i am familiar with and may switch to 24” or 26” in the future.
Best down to earth comprehensive scope review I have ever seen. I was considering this scope for competition, but after both of your videos I will buy this scope with confidence. Thank You!
I love this scope! I bought to use this season in mid range f-class, shot my first match with it back in February. This scope is a great value for the price point & every bit as good as some of my other more expensive scopes in tracking & clarity
Always informative! I have a problem with the tiny exit pupil size when high magnification 32-50x( I also need thick glasses) , seems like all the head bobbing and weaving to see I don't get repeatable hits even though cross-hairs seem on target, problem with scope parallax or complex lens distortion from my glasses? My performance is better at mid power magnification(16x). I'm just shooting paper at 100 yards-it's just I like to see my 223 holes for instant feedback.
Definitely worth trying I feel. I know both my March x 8-80×56 and march x highmaster 10-60×56mm have a very fine margine of getting focused perfectly too. It can be a bit annoying but its also something that you see with the highest quality benchrest/f class scopes. I feel that its just so precise in those adjustments between focus and parallax that it takes getting use to as compared to like a 4-25×50mm scope that isn't so precise. Would like to try one of these though as well as the khales 10-50×56mm
Yeah I was worried about breaking them but turns out they’re kind of made to do that. Glad I forced it the last time i tried because I love the covers and I’m happy I can use them now.
Sounds like a winner for sure. Only thing I shoot a long ways away is steel and even at 1500 yards which is as far as I can shoot on my property I've never needed more then 24×. But if I was doing what you guys do I'd probably want a lot more magnification then that. 5--50 is a crazy adjustment range to me I could use it instead of bringing a spotting scope when I go hunting... LOL Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
John, good review man, I already have one and looked em up for other opinions and maybe features I missed. Currently have it in a Scalar Works Leap 1.5h, but I'm thinking I need to throw it in a SPUR or SPRM. I will echo the statement "It's a lot of scope for the money". The next tier up starts around 4k after tax and comparing them side by side.... I'm thinking I should have just bought 2 more of these.
Hey John thanks for the informative video I’m guessing you were using the MO a reticle. Trying to decide between this and perhaps a Kahales or Schmidt and bender No competition just some long range target stuff. Thanks again
One thing I've discovered about my Tenmile (same as yours, the 5-50) is that the Parallax Index is way off. Like you said, the "window" is narrow and, depending upon conditions will require some adjustment but, I typically have to have mine at the 250-300 yd "index" for 1000 yds. It has bugged me so much that I recently had 2 other better shooters get behind mine and set the parallax for themselves.... Same result, they wound up at same setting +/- a "smidge" and neither close to 1000. Wondering if it's worth it to contact Trijicon and send in for adjustment and be without my scope for a month or more...
How’s the glass compared to Swarovski Z5? I have looked thru just about all the main brands but the place I was at didn’t carry the Trijicon. I like the reticle, turrets, illumination, and the durability the only thing remaining is the glass!
So...can you use a 56mm camera lens ND filter for say.. Iv been wanting to use my filters on a scope for a while now. I'm a full time action sports photog!
Fantastic Information thank you so much, John if you could get the the Kahles 10x50 for $2400 brand new or this one what you would go for it? Thanks again.
I owned two of the Kahles a couple years ago. It's a great scope and I know plenty of people who still love shooting them but it wasn't for me in the end. Scopes are a very personal thing and sometimes you have go through a few to find what your eyes like the best.
I'm about to buy a 5-50x56 based on your review. Really good review. Helped me make my mind up. Question - I looked at a 4.5-30x56 and the diopter adjustment (where you focus the reticle) does not lock down. Has that been a problem? Put the rifle in a bag, and the diopter gets slightly knocked out of focus. I'm used to a Nightforce, the way they lock it down. Have you noticed an issue here? Thanks!
Yes, and that’s actually a pretty good question. I have noticed that it is slightly looser than other scopes but because I use the flip up cabs, I simply orient the flip up To 12 o’clock to where I want my diopter so I always know that’s where it should be set.
Thanks! That's what I was thinking. So that's what I'll do. The optical is so good that it's hard to pass up. I really have learned a lot watching your reloading videos. Thanks again. Bob. Ex-Reedie.
Torn between this scope and the athlon cronus. Basically the same specs. Athlon is a newer company mostly made in China which is why I haven't pulled the trigger.
Great review and a great new channel to follow 👍. I’m trying to build a setup for target style shooting from a bench with bipod and I’m looking at a few different optics, including the tenmile and even a Burris xtr2 8-40x50. Do you have any experience with the xtr 8-40?
Larry Decker I own 2 XTR-II scopes. A 3-15x50 and a 5-25x50 and both are mil/mil and the glass is really good but they are FFP and the F-class shooters seem to prefer SFP so the reticle stays thinner to aim finer I guess. I also use a Burris Veracity 4-20x50 for hunting on a 300RUM. I don’t find the FFP a problem for aiming fine on game and I like that my tested holdovers work no matter what the zoom is set for. Also the Veracity has the tall target elevation MOA knob that’s capped. For really long shots it easy to spin the cap off and dial a very accurate hold, reset, put the cap back on to protect the settings.
@@14goldmedals shortly after posting this question I purchased a SFP version of the XTRII 8-40x50. It has a ultra thin double crosshair reticle that’s much less busy than it’s FFP brother 8-40x50. I am having good results with it, especially at the price I got it for ($579). I am now looking at the Burris XTR3 5.5-30x56 for my multi role rifle. I’m really enjoying Burris xtr optics. It’s probably not as clear on high mag as a sightron siii or trijicon tenmile, but at my local 200 yards range it’s perfect!
@@larrydecker881 Hi Larry. I own two XTRII 8-40x50 FFPs and a Sightron SIII 10-50x60 SFP (with the thin reticle). All three are exceptional scopes. I've had them for over eight years and they still perform really well, especially the tracking: VERY consistent. Like you said, the SIII does have slightly better clarity at high magnification, but not by much. I wouldn't hesitate to get the XTRIII (especially if you can get it at a price like you did with the XTRII :).

I guess it's relative to what you like. I think it's the right amount of busy for my needs. I like having the hash marks all the way across because there's times I hold off pretty far and use the hashes as new center holds. For me it works great but I could definitely see how some people would've like the thicker reticle and sub-tensions up and down.
