Ken thank you so much for doing this. I sold my Cameo in April and have been so upset because I couldn't figure out how to use my images. I was a little fast on the draw there! But, now with your help I can start moving my files over and using them. I big heartfelt thank you. You inspire me and brighten my day every time you upload a video.
Ken I want to thank you.......please don't stop making these helpful videos...you are my go to guy!! im so happy you are here to help us!! what would we do without you!!!
You are simply brilliant Ken. Just bought a Cricut Explore with blue tooth due to your excellent reviews. I agree the unit cut so much better than the Silhouette Portrait I used previously but the software is lacking. Now I can create my original designs in Silhouette's software and import them for Cricut Explorer cutting. Thanks so much Ken.
I just unboxed my Cricut Explore Air and followed right along with your video. Turned my studio file into a .svg file and cut it right out! Thank you so much for the video!
Don't know if you'll be seeing this because it's 6 months since you did the video, but you are genius. I didn't know you could do this at all, never even thought about it, and someone on Facebook asked if anyone knew how to. I jumped over to UA-cam, found you had this video so I gave her the link. A whole new world has opened up (and I was having enough trouble keeping up with the current world). Thanks, Ken.
It worked!! I just converted a Silhouette file to an svg. I am so excited. There was a file I wanted to purchase but I have a Cricut and didn't think I could use it. This is awesome. Now I need to try a few more to make sure I know exactly that I can do it with other files. I just tried a simple one to start. Thank you so much for all the great information you give us. And the videos that show us exactly how to get it done!
Oh my gosh. Thank you for doing this. I was hitting my head against the wall trying to figure out how to save all my Silhouette files I bought. You did the work for me. Thank you.
Thanks so much! My daughter found the only design she wanted for her communion invitations and this video saved the day. Great video. Very easy to follow and worked perfectly.
3 years later and I'm excited to try this. I've seen your video before - when I first got an Explore, I guess, and I think it scared the heck out of me with all those steps. But there's a file in Silhouette I need so, thanks to you, I'll be able to convert it. You are amazing. Oh, have I said that before?
You have no idea how appreciative I am for this. I have a ton of .studio files and just bought a Pazzles machine that I wanted to use them with but didn't know how to.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is exactly what I needed. I'm sure that I am one of the few people who really like the Cricut Explore more than my Cameo. I must admit that I'm a Cricut girl from way back (2006) when I bought my first cutting machine the baby bug. Provocraft machines are just so user friendly for me. I've had my Cameo for a couple of years and barley used it because I find the soft ware very difficult to get a handle on. Vectors and thrush holds and compound paths blah, blah, blah. I don't have as many silhouette signs as you do but I have about 600 and would love to use them with my Explore. I find the Design software very easy to use and the write and cut feature is my favorite.
What the heck?!!???! Do you have a background in teaching? You are an EXCELLENT instructor----- clear, concise and thorough. Thank you again and again----I just subscribed and am now a Ken-Groupie----- : ). OOXOO!
I LOVE you Ken! I realize this is an old video but you'll never know how you've helped me. I made my mom a thank you card from my Silhouette studio back in February. It was a Hula Girl cuz my mom had treated me to a trip to Maui. She loved that Hula Girl so much that we decided we would do Xmas cards for over 40 of her Maui friends with THAT Hula girl. Well, my Silhouette is a pain in the you know what -- VERY DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH and I looked and looked for that hula girl everywhere to download onto Design Space, but it was only available on Silhouette. My Explore is SO MUCH EASIER to work with and I figured if I was going to make 40 cards, I WOULD NOT BE WORKING with my Silhoutte. I've actually came close to throwing it across the room. Well, long story a little shorter, because of your video I transferred that little Hula girl to my Explore and life is easy once again! thanks for taking the time, Ken. I appreciate it so much!
Ken, your video is very well done. You gave me the information I needed with clear, easy to follow instructions, without unnecessary extra chatter like some do. Kudos and thank you!
Thank you Ken just found this you are a life saver, I have hundreds of files to transfer from my Silhouette but will be worth it in the end. Love my Cricut
Hi Ken, thank you so much for this awesome video. I am trying to use your instruction on this video for "letters". When I remove a the circle (remove compound path) my letter fill, like Bs Os etc. Then when I go to upload in the DS, those letters are autofilled. How do I unfill them after I follow your process prior to uploading into DS. TIA
Hey Ken, I just found this tutorial - which is so well done but when I tried using your steps to convert a Cricut file to and SVG in Inkscape when I get to the Trace Bitmap step at .99% all I get is a black jagged mess. Got any tips for me? Thanks so much! Jan
Hi Ken, You are the best. I have a silly question, is there any way to print off your instructions from this video. I'm am older and have to take computer things slower. I have a mac and would love to be able to follow step by step. Thanks in advance
Thanks for the fantastic video! I used it to import a card design. I have two questions though: I lost some detail and had to fiddle with enlarging the Silhouette file before taking my screenshot. This meant adjusting all of the sizes again once they were in Inkspace. Do you have tips on how to maintain greater detail? Second, all of the internal cut and score lines weren't included. Do you have a good way of adding them back to the Cricut file? Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this video!! I should get an Explore in the next few days, hopefully. I am so excited to be able to use my Silhouette files in Design Space! You so totally rock, Ken!
THANK YOU so much Ken!;) I wanted to see how the SIL files work w/the Explore & OMG, how easy is that once you get it imported? Totally, awesome! I love that the Explore separates your colors for cutting!😁😳😍
Thank you Ken ! I had been racking my brain on how to get my images from the silhouette and put them on my Cricut Design Space. Hopefully I get this right and it works tomorrow. Thanks again for your help.
Hi Ken...thank you..I also have a ton of studio files. My question is do you do the same process with the print and cut studio files?. I have the New explore air and it does print and cuts.
Wow! Thank you. I had no idea this software existed. My power cord to my Silhouette broke and here I am trying to make a Santa Mailbox. Luckily I have a Cricut and thanks to you I can cut my images. Awesomeness!
Ken, I have both the Cameo and the Explore among a few others. I have downloaded Inkscape but have not learned the ins and outs of it yet. My question is this: Why would we want to go to the trouble to convert a Sil. file to a Explore file when we can print in on our Silhouette Cameo? I think I am missing something here. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the video, just what I've been looking for. I'm using a mac, but didn't know how to use Inkscape to convert the silhouette images. Are there any tip if I use an image that had text
Thank you for the tut. I am trying to cut an intricate sil file of a doiley but it's coming up with not much detail when I follow your instructions. Any ideas please? Thank you x
Your a lifesaver! I'm new to Cricut and thought you could use the silhouette files as is, oops. I have 46 files to convert. Thanks to you I can use them! Thank you for doing this tutorial!
Ken….Glad to have found you…..and many thanks to you! I appreciate your tutorial. I happen to have Inkscape (love it) but will try in Affinity Designer (love more). Inkscape can trace --don't think Affinity Designer has that capability. Incredible information helping us with our huge library of .studio files …spent countless hours designing and refining! Thanks again! Your tutorial was EASY to follow and understand. You might want to consider teaching. You have the knack! dolores
great video. I don't have a cameo or design studio. I've recently downloaded a file that claimed to be an SVG when it is a .studio file. Suggestions on how I can convert that?
I love this!! I am still him hawwing between silhouette and explore. One reason is that silhouette has way better designs. This is helpful, I can but their designs and use them in Explore :)
Kens Kreations OMG its driving me nuts! One thing I worry about is Cricut abandoning Explore as they did the imagine. I doubt they will though. On one hand I want the cricut because I watched you video on the cuts, Cricut was way more detailed, plus the ability to utilize a vast amount of materials, metal and burlap are huge. They have some really amazing graphics. Then theres the Pixscan, I just think thats amazing. Hi Ken! This is a perfect explanation! thank you so very much! I was wondering if you could tell me how to import a file with score lines in it. I have a box on Silhouette studio that I want to transfer to design space. I've downloaded Inkscape and went through some options but can't seem to find a way around it but to do the score marks myself. Do you think you can recap to this video? thanks a bunch! ♥
Ken, this is a really good video. Had no idea this could be done. Question....I want to do rhinestone designs in Cricut and the rhinestone software is a little pricey and that's why I was considering the Silhouette. Hi Ken, Thanks for the helpful video. Once I get my image into Inkscape nothing happens when I try to "break apart" Any tips? Each step before that went so well!
Just getting the drift of my new Explore and I have, by mistake, bought and saved Silhouette images before I knew I couldnt do anything with them without a cutting machine, etc. I want to clarify - is this process for turning images into svg only if they have been saved on your Silhouette machine or can I do it with ones I just saved to pictures on my PC? Just wanted to say thanks!! This is awesome! I just did one and it worked perfectly. Now that you can print and cut with the Explore, have you tried to use those images?
Hi Ken thank you for this video and all the information. You transferred a pretty easy looking design in the video. I was wondering, as you are actually tracing the design to transfer it, are the intricate cuts in the SIL store just as easily transferred, and do they then cut as well on the Explore?? Thank you again - Julie
hi, excellent video i use windows and i try to copy an image of boxes but do not leave the dotted lines and do not let me do it. How can I modify the image???? sorry if i don't write very well but i try, kisses from Peru.
Great video :) I have a question though. Why did you switch from silhouette to cricut? This seems like so much work for thousands of files. I’m considering a cricut but wanted to make sure I could use my already created silhouette files. Now I’m concerned I don’t have the time to convert them all.
Hi there. I just received an Explore Air for Christmas and finally have time to try some things out. I'm trying convert some studio files to svg. The first one worked fine (it was a single cut in the file). The next two both had that same issues and they both have several items in the file. At least one of the items in each file wouldn't let me fill it black. I could make the outline black, but that was it. Then, neither would like me Path-Break Apart. So I'm currently stuck. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hi Ken! Thank you so much for this video, it will be a great help. I am assuming I can follow the same process for any screen shot I want to turn in to an SVG file, would that be correct? I don't have any Silhouette files to convert, but it all seems pretty straight forward. Thanks for the Inkscape link, I always thought that was a program you had to purchase. Thanks for all your hard work in creating these clips too, it's much appreciated.
Wow, way more complicated than I thought. I wanted to buy some silhouette files to use on my cricut but I am going to pass now. Aint nobody got time for that! Too bad because the files I was looking at are so cute.
Ken, I bought a SVG file from Stampin Up and I have not been able to cut it on Design Space. What is wrong I thought all SVG files were suppose to be ok to cut. It is a coffee cup like the ones they to carry out your coffee. I hope you can help.
If I do not have the Silhouette studio software there is not a way to transfer the designs to svg? The Silhouette store has some really nice file for a great price.
+Kens Kreations thank you AND I did it with your great instructions!!! IT was ME...I was missing one step each time I was trying to do it! Again...thank you so much for the great video...when followed completely works great!! :)
I went to the App Store on my Mac to download Inkscape and I could not find it. Is it no longer available and if so is their and free program I could download. Thanks for your help
Ken, I have not bought the Cricut Explore yet, so I am just playing around with the program without any updates or such. Maybe that is why Cricut Explore isn't recognizing svg files for me.
I bought some .studio Christmas Card when my Cricut was on it's way. I didn't knew by that time that the files were not going to work on the other machine. I do not own a Silhouette machine or have the software. In this case what to I do? Thanks
Thanks Ken I did figure that out but it will not work on my Apple for some reasone I even downloaded an X something that is suppose to go with it. Oh well I guess I lost money on my silhouette on all my downloads
Hi ken, I have afew points on the video Im struggling with, I get stuck on the screen shot bit and then again on trace. can you help, Im doing this on my laptop

Hey ken, quick question, can this same process work for the opposite? As in can u change a cricut image to use in silhouette?
avavril020 sure can :)

Sadly you cannot but Cricut might add rhinestones in future
Hi Ken - great tutorial - thanks! Do you know if there's a way to move fonts that I've purchased from Silhouette to Cricut?
+Suzanne Keenan this i do not have an answer sadly
What about cupcake boxes from the silhouette store? Would those work with this method?
Yes
hi ken,
i was wondering if i could do this process vice versa and use cricut files to silhouette

Jennifer Jenkins yes
Hi Ken thank you for this video and all the information. You transferred a pretty easy looking design in the video. I was wondering, as you are actually tracing the design to transfer it, are the intricate cuts in the SIL store just as easily transferred, and do they then cut as well on the Explore?? Thank you again - Julie
Julie Blake no i am not tracing it and yes they work perfect on the explore.
Thank you!
Great tutorial. Very easy to follow. Tfs.... Becca
Glad you could follow it!

hi ken! thanks for this video, i see that this is a bit older of a video , is there an easier way now to use cameo files in explore?

Have you made an update for this material since the new Cricut Explore Air Golden release in Oct. 2015 ?

Thank you so much. I enjoy all your videos. Suzie
Great video :) I have a question though. Why did you switch from silhouette to cricut? This seems like so much work for thousands of files. I’m considering a cricut but wanted to make sure I could use my already created silhouette files. Now I’m concerned I don’t have the time to convert them all.
This is amazing! Thank you so much, I too thought I would never be able to use these again! YOU ROCK!!
Angel Garcia NO Problem!
+Lisa Muschler yes
Thanks, Ken!

Do you need to follow these same steps when dealing with quotes and/or words, rather than an image?

+Judy Condreay inkscape is an online program that needs to be downloaded form thier site online
Ken, I have not bought the Cricut Explore yet, so I am just playing around with the program without any updates or such. Maybe that is why Cricut Explore isn't recognizing svg files for me.
***** In order for it to use SVG's you have to log into design space. Have you done this?
can you show a video of how to do it with the print then cut now that cricut does the print then cut?
IrishCrafter i have videos on print then cut on the cricut.
can you use the Silhouette Fonts with Cricut?
I bought some .studio Christmas Card when my Cricut was on it's way. I didn't knew by that time that the files were not going to work on the other machine. I do not own a Silhouette machine or have the software. In this case what to I do? Thanks

Hi Ken. Is this still the way to do it? I’m moving to cricut soon...
If you have a windows, to take a screenshot, you just have to click fn+PrntSc - I never knew about the snippet tool. that's cool
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
