10 meters is coming alive. I just ordered one of these antennas with the kit. I ordered it from Wolcott . I used to run an Antron 99. 73 N1XXU

Mine isn’t quite resonant on 11m. I added a tuner to touch it up a bit.

@@k2cjbradio I had to cut 7” off the top whip. Perfect now in the SSB portion of 10 m.

I would recommend maybe putting some rtv sealant around each joint to help keep water out

I bought it in Germany for mountain radio DX - I'm always too lazy to use my Sirio Blizzard 2700 - maybe I'll hear you sometime

Nice walk-through of your antenna installation, Chris! I was looking at the proximity of that wire antenna that looks like it is touching one of the ground plane radials and wondering if that would have an impact. Regardless, that's an interesting project. Looking forward to asking your thoughts on roof tripods during our next livestream. 73 my friend from VE3TWM.

Thanks! Actually that’s the antenna line holding the center of the OCF. The ground plane radials are clear of the OCF…but they are relatively close to it.

I'm surprised at the high swr reading! 1.3 is high to me. Was thinking of buying this as a guy I talk to in New Foundland uses one. Has a flat match too. Makes me wonder if you got a Friday antenna. I use a "droopy drawer" homemade design 1/4 wave and talk around the world. Interesting..

In the nicest terms possible…HAM is not an acronym. It’s just ham radio, no caps.

What about grounding? Are your antennas grounded? I live in a place where we get some good lightning strikes and I'm having a hard time finding info on grounding antenna for a roof.

It appears this antenna is not resonant on either 27 or 28MHz. Perhaps clip a bit from the top section.

If it was metal I might do that. It’s fiberglass so not sure if I can trim it that way. Thanks for watching!

Start in the middle, how they work is that the bottom section is a matching device so when you move the alluminum rings closer or further away from the matching device the standing-wave-ratio will change aka "SWR's" if high on 40 move them down if high on one move them up thats why the middle id the best place to start, most of the time the middle is just right for SWR's like 1.4-1.5 ish depends how height you got it up there and so on.
If the rings end up on the bottom use a hacksaw and put tape around the top whip before cutting.
      Cut 1/2 at a time.
Also the mounting pole looks to be galvanised steel it should be aluminium.
      Hope this helps.

I've yet to put up my pt99 and while I don't have the radial kit I'm a little concerned that the radials are only 44 inches rather than a quarter wave around 102 inches. Does that seem logical? Maybe the antenna design won't work with quarter wave radials? As soon as the rain stops I'll have to put mine together and so some experimentation.

    • @k2cjbradio
      @k2cjbradio  Рік тому +1

Yeah, i opted for the radial kit because i thought it would make it a bit more efficient. It does seem odd that they are as short as they are

What kind of coaxial do you recommend for the outdoors where it gets 100° and humidity is high 🤔
