    A sealed subwoofer sounds nice when listening at low volume at night, subtly thumping in the background with good definition and speed. You can still have a good audio experience without waking up the whole house. I wonder whether other fans of sealed subwoofers have a similar experience.

    If you have a ported sub,you can test the difference for yourself. I just plugged the port with a thick car washing sponge. It helped me with the "boominess" when listening to music. Now is a lot tighter.

    • @AwesomeFinish

      Not even close to accurate. Every single speaker will have different volume requirements for sealed and ported enclosures.

    • @MrWirelesscaller
      @MrWirelesscaller 2 роки тому +1

      @@AwesomeFinish Like he mentioned "listening to music" because in many cases they position their subs incorrectly and if they have a port it may be aimed into the room to suffer a negative interaction with it. On a good sub (for example the SVS lineup) you can plug the ports are get a decent enough sound vs output because their volume is most likely towards the larger end of the driver's design parameter while on a poorly designed sub (like what you see in most htib or soundbars) plugging the port will impact the output and depth severely.

  • @sudd3660
    @sudd3660 2 роки тому +3

    sound quality comes first, so sealed for me, open baffle is another diskussion, but if you want a box make it sealed.
    if people are on a low budget, cheap subwoofers might not reach deep enough or you have no dsp option to get the deepest bass.
    how loud you can play or how deep is alway the biggest limitation of the budget, do not compromise on the sound quality.
    both movies or music benefits from sealed sound quality subwoofers, same with bass extension to 15hz.

    Q: Do you like sealed or ported subwoofer?
    A: Yes.
    My main gripe is the silly .1 single sub. I use two sealed subs for the left and right channels, and a large, ported dual-driver sub for the .1 channel.
    With Dolby Prologic you can convert pure stereo to pseudo 5.1 for those times when volume is all you need.

    • @MrWirelesscaller
      @MrWirelesscaller 2 роки тому

      ... or you can use two really good 12-15" drivers and keep them sealed, and with room gain it should be more than enough for home theater.

  • @VINNY5674
    @VINNY5674 3 роки тому +2

    I own sealed i own ported I own lots of subs. Now there's lots of factors room size, structure carpeting draps... Etc
    Musical preference as my sealed sub really shines with classic rock and Metal as my ported really shines with hip hop music and for home theater. Also cost you really can't compare a $300 sub to a $2,000 SVS as those svs will make you happy if it's sealed or not. It's also personal preference what my ears hear and like can differ from yours. My advice is to buy both and test them in your home see what gives you a better Bass.
    My current home theater has 4 Definitive Super Cubes 1's which have 1 driver and 2 passive radiators each. The passive radiator is the port so they are ported but they are airtight sealed. The radiators give it an acoustic suspension keeping the bass tight so you kind get the best of both worlds sealed/ported.

      Concert subs can be a 24” in a scoop box for air flow. It is tuned for low 15hz. The power is 2-5k just for one sub. Also at a concert there is a mixing console that a Engineer adjust highs, miss and lows separately. So what this means for home is how big your room is, how big your budget is, start with a amp that is separate from the receiver and it is cleaner sound. Yamaha makes awesome home amps and for studios. Definitive Technology makes towers that have the subwoofer built into it. I have had these with a 12” sub each and a designated amp built in. I sold them for more than what I bought them for when I moved.

    So, i do think a sealed with passive radiators is the way to go. It has both benneffits from sealed and portes boxes in a compact enclosure. Problem is, there are really a few of them only availlable here and there among the models aabd usually pricey. I use to have a RSW-10d klipsch subwoofer that was 500rms/1200peak as today Klipsch speakers on 10 inch got 200rms/400peak power. Even the SPL150 got 400/800 (despite it’s higher db output die to size). They simple left me orfaned after problema with the sub! But it was wonderfull for music and for moovies at the same time with a perfect fast attack, chest thumping bass in a small enclosure…

    You missed alot lol it depends on cubic feet of a box, and how you tune the box. You can't use those universal Walmart boxes for a good sound system. You have to tune a box, and you can tune either box, ported or sealed, for any frequency or use.
    So here's where I'm gonna fill in his gaps. If you prefer rap, and sound pressure level, ported can be better if tuned correctly.
    If you listen to metal, rock music, or dubstep, a proper tuned sealed box will enhance quality. But you can tune either way. Pay attention to box cubic feet, reverb within the box, port dimensions, length, shape etc.
