They can save a lot of injuries to the people in the stands. My dad used to play pro ball for a few teams, the Twins being one of them and he said it wasn't uncommon to see a lot of people get hurt by foul balls. The tv cameras used to shy away from showing that back then as well. You saw the ball fly into the stands and maybe hit someone but then you didn't see the aftermath as they had to be taken away bleeding profusely from the face.

It's amazing to see the crowd and the professionals (players and staff) cheering for their catch; it just goes to show how much they really love the sport, even if there is no points in the play they are happy to see a good catch.
@@MrLinkolin I was at a Brewers game where a little kid caught a foul ball on the fly. Line drive, he jumped BOOM caught it! The crowd gave him a standing ovation. It was so cool to see. Props and respect to those guys and gals. They probably saved a fan from getting hit with a ball. I've sat down the 3rd base and 1st base lines. Those foul balls are ROCKETS! Those were some incredible glove plays!
There is something so wholesome about baseball... I hope it never truly dies because it really is an amazing game. Perfect balance between individual greatness and teamwork. The icing on it for me is no-hitters as the visiting team - the home crowd is more than willing to cheer on the visitors to see greatness! I love hockey but you'd never see the home team cheer on being shut-out
Nice to see the broadcasters, players, and fellow fans give those young people a hand for some excellent fielding plays. A few of those liners would possibly have done some damage if they hadn't been intercepted by the ball boy/girl.
Honestly, ya love to see somebody layout for a foul. I know I do. I also love how a lot of them got good coverage by the broadcast crew, spread the love of baseball just as far as it can go!
What if every play in bounds is simply a regular, non-highlight play? I think most people have no clue how much they take for granted catching a simple fly ball. I played baseball competitively until I was 17 and, having an opportunity to do a simple pop fly challenge at Kauffman Stadium back in 2001, tracking a fly ball in a triple deck stadium is not easy, and I felt fortunate to have caught 2 out of 3. Big league players make it look simple.
It depends on if the ball attendant can hit or not. If they can’t hit then they are in the right job, if they can hit then the team’s scouts and GM have screwed up.
I can remember one year at the Cubs Wrigley Park, it was an drizzly day, and at the plate was a left hand batter and the Cubs pitcher throws a fastball and batter is late! But takes a big swing nothing but air and the bat comes flying out of his hands into the 5th or 6th row of the box seats along third base side and everyone ducks except of one fan still sitting down in his seat, catches the bat with both hands! They gets into a tug of war with the Andy Fran Usher until Leo Durocher comes out the dug and tells the Andy Fran to let him keep the bat! There was no way that guy was going to give up that bat! Andy Fran or no Andy Fran Usher!
it's definitely impressive, especially to those who aren't aware but most padres and red sox ballgirls are sdsu softball players so they're already used to catching balls like this very easily
I'm surprised that the players' union hasn't beefed about the ballgirls/boys making catches inside the foul line. At least they're there as a last line of defense for the fans.
@@motodog242 To the left of the line, it's a foul ball. If it hits the foul pole or lands to the right of the line, it's fair. The player better hustle to try to beat the kid to the ball

Awesome plays by all!👏. But another thing in common is that every one of them didn’t take a bow. Instead they instantly were looking for someone to give it to.
Great catches! You guys have to check out the best catches in cricket where they catch the ball which is just as hard as a baseball with their bare hands! Also for those who don't understand the sport, there is a boundary rope encircling the entire ground. Unlike baseball, if the fielder has any part of his body touching or beyond the rope, not only is the batsman 'not out' but also gets six runs. How fielders manage to catch balls right at the edge or even at times in the air of the boundary rope is phenomenal and definitely a sight to behold!
This is why baseball is the best sport ever. You can be a teenager who gets paid to watch a game and play catch with professional players. Can't do it in hockey or basketball.

MLB needs to have a Golden Glove award for the ballkids.
Fantastic idea, a junior Golden Glove. 👍
I agree, great idea, but they have to be real kids!

The Padres have bit more class than the Red Sox & Rays do, they actually provide them with Padded stools not just used, empty 5 gallon Paint Pails.
Red Sox are obsessed with historical preservation of Fenway with the exception of the seats above the Green Monster, but the Rays have no excuse.
