  • Staub is one of the most popular Dutch oven brands in the world. But are these French-made enameled cast iron pots worth the high price? In this review, I break down the pros and cons of Staub Dutch ovens. I’ll also share my test results that show how it compares to other brands like Le Creuset and Lodge.

    Thank you for this excellent review! I was a lodge person until I spotted sales on Staub and purchased two 5.5 QT tall dutch ovens. They are THE best! I love cooking or reheating anything in them given how even they maintain temperature! Just subscribed to your channel!

      There are many little brands that add the nobs to the lid while keeping a light colored interior. I prefer the dark finish, but that’s me.

    I have le cruset stainless cookware set…12 pots and pans plus lids. It was not inexpensive by any means. BUT…for my enameled cast iron I chose Staub. For the cost of my 3 Staub pots, I equaled my investment in Le Cruset stainless. However it must be said that I use at least one Staub every day whereas I only choose a Le Cruset a couple times a week. I keep looking to the next Staub piece I will select with excitement and anticipation of its acquisition…cost be damned. If you love cooking, cook all the time, just one Staub Dutch oven will be your life long companion in the kitchen and prove its value day after day, year after year and hopefully, with good care, get fought over as much as your silver or your fur coat once you depart.

    I would love to see a scientific evaluation of how well the enamel coating hold up to wear over time from staub and other brands. People always claim it, but it would be great to measure some way. Maybe something to induce accelerated wear like heat cycles or fill it some chemical?

    Good review! I have used the Staub many times at my sisters home and I don’t like it at all. The black interior makes me feel as though I’m blind! I wouldn’t buy one myself for that reason. I have a Cuisinart that has worked great for fifteen years. I love it.

    After watching this video and others, I think I'm going to skip the enameled Dutch ovens and stay with traditional black iron. I can get a US made Lodge Dutch oven for a fifth of the price of even the least expensive French-made enameled D.O., and the only disadvantage is that you have to keep it seasoned...I don't really regard that as a disadvantage, since I have to season my cast iron skillet anyway.

    • @mitchelgreen891
      @mitchelgreen891 7 місяців тому +1

      Its really a small investment for a lifetimes worth of cooking, but I guess you can say the same thing about the cast iron. At the end of the day you can cook great food in these pots all the same, some of them are just a little nicer to live with, plus their absolutely beautiful pots.

      It’s made in France. It’s sometimes called a cocotte, French oven, or Dutch oven. Regardless of the name, it’s an enameled cast iron pot with a heavy lid.
