The Terminator is literally a sci-fi/thriller with slasher elements. The T-800 is an unstoppable, near invulnerable killer that stalks Sarah Connor, not unlike Michael Myers or Jason Vorhees. Slashers was very much in style throughout the 80's and into the 90's. Even the early 2000's.

Cameron based T-800 on a cyborg he saw in a nightmare. An unstoppable machine from the future. Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese didn't have access to proper 2029 technology to deal with this imminent threat. I hadn't known Hollywood encourages filmmakers to write a happy end -- it was my first Hollywood movie. I believed Arnie would execute her. That was the whole advantage of time travel -- a robot will always beat a human soldier. I like the finale -- cornering the protagonist in a cage, in a seemingly hopeless situation. I focused on the futuristic aspects of the movie, and wouldn't mind Sarah dying. In other words, the Terminator was less about psychopathic obsession, and more about potential risks of technology. Considering recent developments in AI and robotics, makes me wonder.
Police and army ranks are trained to shoot with both of their eyes open. It requires practice. So it's added realism when the T-1000 shoots with his eyes open in the second movie too
Infiltrator should blink while shooting! He was created to mimic humans behaviors! The resistance would quickly realize that their recruit was a machine if he didn't blink while shooting during a joint action...
@@Mr11ESSE111 It was damaged at that moment. Got a bullet in the eye and also had one of it's hand broken. With such problems it would most likely fail to catch the target. First two Terminator movies are done almost perfectly. Some tiny details like holes from bullets doesn't match everytime, but everything else is on top.

@@Gurp2 Policeman didn't use shotgun against T-800. First two movies tried to be realistic and T-800 was not a superhero. If anyone would believe Kyle that is not a human they would use anti-tank heavy bullet and oneshot T-800, just like in Genesys. And why T-800 went to the police station? Because there was his main target. It tried to avoid the fight there, because it was risky ("I'm a friend of Sarah Connor. I was told she is here", scene with "I'll be back"), but it had no other options.

Very few people noticed this. But when you watch the moment Kyle fires the first shot at the T-800, just as the latter is about to shoot Sarah, you'll notice that Kyle's shot knocks the T-800 off balance right as he fired, causing him to narrowly miss. You can even see the terminator's gun go off in that split second.
One of my favorite all time movies, I watch it again and it still amazes me,,,😂 I love watching Arnold do the villain role better, he's very menacing looking👍

I noticed that while watching this video, for a robot that is only meant for killing and infiltrating, he sure has his own personality and walk, he even has a unique stance while firing his last few shots at Reese

He was a learning machine. Its vwey possible the T-800 was learning as it went to blend in more by watching people in this timeline, learning certain mannerisms for show.

I absolutely agree with you. It was a very bad move for the film distribution companies to do this. Awareness has got to be raised to the people who are seeing this film for the first time.
I agree with you on the sound mixing, but having seen the original VHS release there was actually a teal color gradation to the film back then. The eye surgery and truck explosion scenes look amazing and realistic with it. I'm more against the noise filters that Cameron is notorious for using.
There's only a waiting period for handguns but for any other gun, there isn't? So you can take a shotgun or a rifle home right away but it's the handguns that have more restrictions? Brilliant logic. 👍🏾
It’s because burglaries, and thefts were done primarily with pistols due to their small size and ease of concealment, in addition to being useable at further distances to still be lethal. Shotguns were mainly for home defense, and giving a wait period on them would hurt business too much for gun shops, so they had to draw the line somewhere

That part was a challenge here. Put yourself in Cameron's situation. You want to make a movie about robot that imitates human behaviour to blend in, but at the same time you want to make it robotic. I think this is why it's a mix of both, robotic and humanlike.

I feel like the T800 feels a bit more human in this movie than in T2, the movements are a bit more fluid, and Arnold being younger really makes it feel more like a psychopath, in some way, he blends more like this In T2 Arnold perfected the entire machine thing, but that also makes it stand out more, it blends because John and Sarah can do the talking
Genuine horror film. The terminator was terrifying and relentless. He was also physically massive unlike anyone else which really helped
The chase made it original. Sure, visual effects 40 years later are more impressive, yet nothing beats the horror of escaping an unstoppable robot.

That’s not entirely true. He blinked when he killed the first female victim when he fired the pistol with laser sighting.
He also took multiple shotgun blasts to the torso because he is a method actor.

Love the way the terminator swings the motorbike round at 5:32 to start the chase of Sarah and Kyle.
Probably a stun actor did it, the actor's head shape seems different from Arnold.

It's right at the 2:02 mark you see the handgun muzzle flash, that's the shot to the forearm, you later see the terminator repairing.

If you listen carefully, you hear the sound of metal when the T-800 is shot with the shotgun. Just a little detail I think is awesome.
Even though the other terminators in the later movies where more powerful than the T-800 , this original was the scariest one of all
