I’ve never had a good experience with magnetic cables. Especially with the iPhones, I’m sure it happens on android as well. overtime your phone's charging port wears down. The connector that’s supposed to stay in your phone will eventually start popping out whenever you rip the cord off. Essentially becoming a regular charger. Once this starts happening there’s really no point using it anymore. Really the best thing to do would be to buy one with a brand new phone that has a newer charging port so that it will stay in there and your charger port will not wear as fast. However I’m assuming people who buy these have at least had their phone for a while. Just my 2 cents :)

You can usually just buy a new "tip" and with the genx or gen 10 version, you should just bend the cable towards the front or back of the phone to disconnect. This way it doesn't try to pull the tip out or make it excessively loose. I've been using them for over a year and they're pretty great IMO.

theLordKy0 I think that might just be a feature rather than a design flaw. I noticed that pin has the smallest profile, which can be tricky to pull out. The intended way to disconnect could be tilting the connector to any direction to break the magnetic loop. I was very interested in this kind of cable, until I read about the charging time issue.

Has been a game changer ever since. My wife has an iPhone, I have a Samsung and we also have a couple of tablets. Each devise has a different type of connection but we only use one cable to charge them all. I keep another cable in my car and one at work. I can't express how convenient it is to just need one cable and how easy it is to connect. I would highly recommend it.

    This cable solves multiple issues:
    1. If you have different ports in different devices it uses universal charging cable now.
    2. Ports will always be covered preventing accumulating dirt / any other issues (Had one devices get broken - gg on the port)
    3. you dont need to worry if anybody has your device cable - you just use your cable for ALL your devices
    4. magnets are really comfortable compared to plug in plug out once you get used to it.

I'm also using a magnetic cable currently. The magnet part on the plugs is the same thickness as my case so it's not poking out. And magnetic cables sometimes saves phone from falling off surfaces when the charging cable is accidentally tugged. Downside is not all of these kind of cables can support fast charging and data transfers.

  • @S81BO

The only problems I ever had with all magnetic cables I tried so far and also being an engineer/Tech is that the ends of either the cable or the connector on the phone are gathering all sorts of metal fillings/rubbish from either the pocket or the surfaces I am putting it on and have to demagnetize and clean it as it may cause a short when you plug it in.

One thing people need to look out for with magnetic fittings. If you work around metal filings these are a no-no. The filings get stuck in the fitting, cause a short and the cable is useless.

Someone I worked with had one of these, and the piece that goes into the phone eventually broke, leaving part of it stuck inside the phone. He had to get it repaired at Verizon.
I think the concept of a magnetic charger is cool and convenient, but until the phone manufacturers don't implement it themselves, I'm steering clear of this.

I use one for years now with an armored case. Since its armored it sits flush with the case. For phones without wireless charging is just perfect imo. It protects the port from dirt and the cable from tearing down with time. The only problem is that you have to clean the receptors from time to time, but it's better to clean the cable than having to clean inside your phone.

Wireless headsets are the best sort of application for these cables. Once you get a low battery notification, just slap the cable to the side of your head rather than needing to take it off and find the right spot/orientation (because most wireless headsets these days still use micro-USB). I've been using the Netdot ones for the past several years, and I've never really thought about it, but it's a real game changer

With the more protruding ones, one will inevitably get used to the connector sticking out at the bottom, as one does with all things. We were used to bezzles, got used to droplet cameras, etc. But the bigger concern is snag danger when you pull it out of your pocket or bag, since a few hard snags may have the same damaging effect as a hard pull from a plugged in cable, which would defy the purpose of the magnetic connectors.
