- Here's my take on the "what aquarium background color should I choose?" question. I set up this shallow aquarium one month ago and back then decided to go with a bright background.

Thanks for uploading this. Not often you get to see both options on the same tank and have a chance to compare. I've just ordered a light background for my next tank build and you got me wondering if that was the right choice. Honestly, I think they are just different, not sure I prefer one over the other. Just a different feel. For a tank with no plants above the water level I think light is more likely to give you the diorama landscape recreation feel. Harder choice with your layout (which is more like what I go for too) though, I think.
No problem at all. I feel like for this aquarium dark is a better option, before, the tank just felt flat and smaller than it actually is. White works as well for some tanks (you can even throw an led strip behind it for a cheap led background panel alternative). I would say, go with what you already ordered and if you don't like it swap it later, it's not such a big investment.
Thanks very much…helps my decision….black looks way better in my eyes.
No problem... I feel like black makes the tank look bigger than it actually is, ads more depth
Black background looks great, makes it look so deep.
I agree, I think the white made it look very "flat", no depth to it... I wonder how a led backlight would compare to these two...
The black background looks great! Also your Badis are looking really happy as well. It's interesting seeing them along side pygmy corys just for scale!
Thank you! The Badis are getting used to their new home so I'm seeing them a lot more than in the beginning. Just a great little fish all around
So much better with the black, nice...
Thank you!
I think both tanks are stunning. I like the black background better than the white one. Have you ever seen a tan or brown background?
Thank you! I prefer the black as well, I think it ads a little bit more depth. I didn't see either colour used as a background... but it would be a great idea to play around with them and see how it looks
Maybe dark BG for if u love the night views, and if u light sun using bright
big improvement
Thank you very much! I agree 🙂
White.
I just felt like white made a small tank look even smaller. White makes it look brighter, but black makes it look deeper. At least, in my opinion
Nice one! Where did you buy this black screen please?
Thank you! It's a fairly cheap blackout window film from amazon.
Black for the win.
110%
Is that plain water or soapy water you used before sticking the backgroung?
Black is the way to go...especially with plants. The vibrant greens go so well against a black background.
You'll get less algae on the wall if it's black.
I've come to the same conclusion. I will be sticking to black backgrounds for a while
why less algae?
I think black looks better. But the white will reflect the light back into the tank instead of absorbing it like black.
That's true. It comes down to preference... you can go for looks or utility ...
Hey, what is the stand u are using for this fish tank ? Thx :)
It's a Vasagle side table I've got from amazon about 3 years ago... it was a perfect match for this tank 🙃
Lovely setup!! Do you use C02 in your aquarium?
Thank you very much! When I did this video, it had no co2, I added co2 a little later to help out the plants a bit...
Did you use a matte black or glossey black for the background?
It's matte black.
Is that plain water or soapy water you used before sticking the background?
It's just plain tap water
which one do you like ? black or white?
Right now I believe the black is looking a lot better on this tank.
a lot better
Agreed
Do you use co2 in your tank?
I don't have CO2 in this one
wow how do you keep the plants growing mine is always dying😢
I'm using aquasoil, my tap water is very soft, and I'm keeping up with the water changes (most of the time). I'm convinced my tap water plays the biggest part in it
@@HobbyScapesHQ im using aquasoil too but still not succeeding, how often do you change water and what percentage 🙏🏻
@cjaymarriott I'm trying to be consistent with once a week, but sometimes it is 2 weeks... I'm changing around 30%
What is the 0.56 min White background's name. How can ı buy this fon.
Hey! Look for "frosted window film" on Amazon
@@HobbyScapesHQ 🙏🙏 thanks so much
No problem 👍
did you use vinyl wrap??
It's blackout window film.
hi, how do you get so much growth in 1 month with no co2
Hey. Probably it's a combination of multiple things, good soil and soft water, some of the plants coming from another aquarium I have, so they're already adapted to my water...
@@HobbyScapesHQ thank you so much for your response. So does this mean soft water promots growth? If so i think you just opened a whole new door for me. Am a beginer
No problem at all... most plants, not all, prefer softer water
@@HobbyScapesHQ thank you so much for the eye opening
I'm happy to help when I can. Good luck
Black looks better..
Agreed 💯
Dark... the white looks too "antiseptic"..
That's a perfect word for it 😅
ALWAYS BLACK, ALWAYS!
👌
that not really bright , use white instead frost backgroud, it make background more brightness like lightscreen i think
Went from frosted to black here, I might try white, maybe when I get bored with the black. 👍
@@HobbyScapesHQ i did went black to white bcause the floating dust really anoying in black , while the white make the tank look more
