Totally agree with you, you hit the point. I have been using the pro subscription for a few months and decided to quit it. Actually the idea to let grow beginner DJs with this method is not bad but in fact there are way too little listeners on this plattform to let the DJs grow - because of the reasons you already mentioned.
Mixcloud just doesn't seem to understand that they are not Spotify, Tidal or Apple Music. With those services people are paying for the control to listen to what they want and how. Mixcloud is more like radio and no one pays for radio except satellite radio and we all see how popular that is which is not very. Make it free for listeners without any restrictions and just run commercials like you said. While it sucks for us DJ's, I can understand the cost of hosting people with a lot of mixes. The thing that's really hard for some of us is that not every DJ spins a super popular genre or plays nothing but club bangers. There are some of us that specialize in more underground music and are trying to spotlight new or forgotten artists. We're never going to have huge audiences to make the kind of money to justify the expense of the service. We just love music and want to share it with fellow music lovers.
I hadn't heard of Mix Cloud until I searched for something similar and ended up watching your video. I'd just like people to tune in when they can and hear a certain mix or two, a bit like radio so perhaps I'm overcomplicating things here.
Mixcloud certainly need to work on their brand awareness I think! But if you upload and share links/ build an audience it can be good. Just need A LOT of patience haha. Thank you for watching
This is a shame. I like to upload my mixes to see my progression from when I started and it’s a good source to show that you are still being active as a DJ. However I find it really hard to get listeners as it is 😆 So having people have to pay to listen to my mixes will decrease the amount of listeners even more… Bit disappointing in my opinion 😬 Thanks for the video again man 👊🏼
I just made an account there.. In the end of the day, is it worth? I am about to buy some streaming equipment and I just want to share my music sessions and why not to get paid from people that love it. But is it worth to give it a try?
As I mention in this video it’s very hard to make money from Mixcloud- there are tonnes of DJs streaming on there, but if you market yourself well and have a following, worth a try!
Loads of uploads disabled, I was uploading 24-32 hours of radio, now if so many of a certain artist gets played (it gets disabled) and got to pay £9 a month to upload so no longer consider it worth it as can't pay that and still get content disabled if I do.
I cannot listen or view any mixcloud programs what so ever I don't know why and if I have to pay what's ones limit to search for a particular set or presentation 🤔 on the other hand I found this helpful.
do listeners really hear ads if they don't pay a subscription? I never heard any ads...as a DJ using Mixcloud primarily for promotion I decided to subscribe to the Creator subscription but what really annoys me the most which no-one seems to have mentioned (sorry if I missed it somehow) is that I can't scroll forward or past whilst listening to a mix more than 4-5 times or whatever the restriction is...I feel as a creator paying £9 pm to use mixcloud I should be able to skip forward as much as I like...I like to listen to lots of sets but don't have 1.5-2 hours to dedicate per set to hear most of it and it's frustrating to say the least...you don't have this issue at all with Soundcloud.
I’ve even tweeted this exact thing to Mixcloud. How come I don’t get FULL access on the pro tier? I thought it was a mistake at first but they’ve done it on purpose 😂 it’s nuts
Been rocking mixcloud for about 6 months 9 quid to make sure everyone gets their well deserved cash is fine by me, its 9 quid ffs cheaper than a pint in some places
Mixcloud wasn't worth it when the service was free. My last upload (from 3 years ago) has only had 43 listens; my cloudcasts would usually average about 4 listens after the first week. Whereas a podcast I uploaded 3 months ago (on Radio4Al)l has had over 130 downloads.
I would think DJs subscription and ads would be the payment to allow listers to enjoy free content. Unless listeners had some way to save these mixes and have them on their hard drive to play at will. Otherwise it’s just not encouraging listers to come to “listen”
Hi! I totally agree with you Karl. But what else now ? There's no other way for a DJ to share his mix to a public ? Dose someone use other tools for it. As a DJ, i'm OK to ay for this service, but the audiance shouldn't
No no no, I’ve used Mixcloud for 11 years, got 88 uploads I don’t upload regular to pay the subscription, now I’ve been told I have to pay! I moved over to Mixcloud because SoundCloud kept copyrighting my mixes but now Mixcloud is doing the same.
@@djkarlthomas they have some sort of new copyright rule where if you play more than 3 tracks from the same album / artist the mix gets flagged and restricted. I'm also having issues with a lot of old mixes getting flagged recently
@@SyphonAudioI can see why this is in place - so that people don’t just upload Leftism. On the flip side I’ve just done a mix of tunes sent to me by a guy that runs his own label. If this is all AI determining the copyright then it won’t cover that edge case
I'm done with mixcloud. Tell me when I'm mixing old records the money they are collecting is going to artists and labels that no longer exist. I don't think so. This is a money grab to pay their bills.
Oh wow sorry you aren’t having a great time using it! I can’t say I use them really anymore whilst I do have an account and some odd mixes up from years ago. Thanks for watching!
Mixcloud is only good to put up a few demo mixes for clients. If you want to make money with your mixes you are better off trying to build an audience on Twitch. And if you want to get the most plays you are better off with Soundcloud and UA-cam.
I'm a user for many years overall its really not great at all/scam/ but I do ok, that being said if all djs don't upload music for 1 month they are done?????????????? who who be the stupid ones/

Thank you for sharing your experience! Can completely relate!
Appreciate this video as a DJ. Great perspective from the listeners point of view. It should cater towards them at the end of the day
Thank you for watching and the kind words!
Thanks for this info. I was wanting to know about this.

I've looked everywhere but didn't find anything. Thank you!
Just had a look on some forums and it appears to be 8 hours which is huge!!
That's awesome! Thank you! Your videos on UA-cam about Mixcloud are the best I have found. Thanks again!
Good information, thanks Karl.
Glad it was useful! Thank you for watching
twitch is the way to go .. mixcloud is empty
@StevieMoore-q3c haven’t experimented with twitch but heard good things
Superb video! Very fair commentary. Good points, well made. Subbed.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching?
I’d love to see a sub between free and pro.
Not a heavy user and only interested in uploading a bit more than 10 mixes

No worries! I agree…the user experience from a listener perspective isn’t as good as it was!
Very informative. Thank you. Do you know what is the max length a show can be/is permitted if you are a paid Pro subscriber? Thanks again!
It’s a very good question. Honestly not sure. I’ll try and find out.
@@djkarlthomas I have had 6hr/8hr mixes on Mixcloud no problem
I am finding less & less on mix but much more on sound like UK garage , trance and oldskool stuff
Nice one! Love the old school

My mates don’t listen to my mixes on that platform because they’re restricted

Crazy isn’t it! I’ve always found Mixcloud a really tricky platform to build an audience on
Should I be deleting my 10+ year-old mixes on MixCloud?
No? Why would you want to?
Learnt lots there. Can’t believe listeners have to pay to get basic features. That definitely will not entice people in.
Very informative.

Mixcloud Is tough. Very saturated and almost all other DJs. I do like it but very few listens.Good place to put mixes though.
Fair play and I agree at least you aren’t struck with copyright. Thanks for watching!
Hi! I totally agree with you Karl. But what else now ? There's no other way for a DJ to share his mix to a public ?

Yes…but you need a pretty sizeable audience and you need to have the premium subscription.

Long answer: if you are a hobbyist with no intention to be a "pro", not worth it
SOUNDCLOUD IS SUPER LIMITED ON SAVED SPACE FOR A FEE NOW

Once again, money ruining yet another platform
