Hi mate another fantastic video I know its a bit heart stopping when falcons turn up but the heights twists and turns your pigeons make are fabulous to watch in their attempts to fool the falcons seeing them coming to land is better than jet fighters their so fast and touching down and running in as quick as possible you certainly have best pigeon channel on here grate work keep it up 👍
Please watch on a computer in full screen. On a phone you'll probably waste your time. At least try to watch in 4K. The falcon chased the pigeons very high in the sky, very hard to film and focus. I keep getting questions if I have high flying breeds genetics in my pigeons: no, they are all from my racing pigeons that raced at the club up to 1000 Km.
Those pigeons who defy a falcon in a sky-race... Speed vs speed and feint perfectly well and manage to survive this rude experience... no fear will be felt about them... A Good pigeon breed manage the race whatever the adversity.... Those pigeons who manage to reach their home despite the cuts(like razors) caused by these predators are really true warriors by genetics.... Really perfect pigeons 👏👏👏🔝🔝🔝
Andrei another fantastic video. Really great footage. Please keep them coming. When does your racing season begin. Have you paired your pigeons up yet. Take care.
Thanks Graham. We start racing by the end of April. I hope to be able to release the racing team outside by the middle of March and I will pair all the pigeons at the beginning of March.
@@Pigeonmaniacom Your racing season starts around the same as ours. I told you that after many years not racing pigeons this year due to my dads bad health i am taking care of his pigeons and will be racing them this year. To be honest it great to be back. I will be pairing them up next weekend as its a full moon. Take care my pigeon friend.
@@grahammoore6386 Hmm, this full moon theory sounds familiar, I think I saw it a few times. What was the idea? I just pair them based on temperature. No fixed rules, anyway. Enjoy pigeons and best of health to your dad!
@@Pigeonmaniacom I got it from my dad and uncle who stills races pigeons as well. If you pair your pigeons on a full moon then the young birds will hatch on a full moon. Probably old school thinking but i will go with it this year. So many people pair the pigeons up to early i feel. I guess its what you like to race either long distance racing for the old birds or the darkness system for the young birds which im not a fan off. Thank you for your kind words about my dad. I would love to time in a pigeon from the longest race just for him this year.
@@grahammoore6386 Totally agree, people pair the pigeons way too soon, some of them have the second batch of youngsters by now. Wow. I don't even think the youngsters grow at their full potential in such weather, no matter what loft we have. I'm more passionate abut nature than races and when I look into the nature right now everything is frozen and silent, in conservation mode. I would feel silly to push the puffy silent pigeons to mate in this freezing weather. But it will get warm really soon and then it will be hard to keep them from mating, just to have the perfect timing with the club schedule. Looking forward to let them mate on a sunny warm day, they look almost electric at that time, the loft explodes with happiness and cooing.
Great video as always, I've lost a male today and he has chicks 3 days old, you think that the female can feed them well till age of week ? what do you advice me to do, Have a nice day sir!
Yes, sure. A female from the flock filmed here had the same problem in autumn, I lost her male when she was still on eggs. She took care of the babies herself until weaning. You can help her a bit when they are on grains, I used to give them some peanuts in the beak.
Do your birds have a hard time going back out and flying after they get attacked by the falcon? I’ve had lots of falcon problems the last 2 years. Curious if you do anything different? Or anything you recommend? I let them out and 10-15 mins later falcon comes and chases them. Spooks them. Especially the young birds .
Select for the ones that keep flying and aren't easily impressed. Also feeding is important, they must be very light. The day when I filmed this the falcon attacked in the first 2 minutes after I released them.
During winter the falcon appears almost daily... sometimes it takes a break for a few days if it is warmer. It calms down in spring after all the fanciers release their pigeons (I also release my club racing team in March when it gets warm)... in winter 99% of the fanciers keep their pigeons in the loft and we don't have many ferals here as prey. I had no falcon attacks in the loft area for the last few years in summer but I think it hits the young birds when ranging. But there are thousands of birds available as prey at that time of the year. My club mates say it attacks their birds in summer too. I think it saves mine for the winter as a backup. :)) Should be easier for you in the summer too, right? With falcons the worst time is when the hawk also attacks in the same time down at the loft... the pigeon hidden in the tree after the crazy falcon chase was lucky the hawk wasn't around that day.
@@Pigeonmaniacom same story for me winter time if I let them out early or late in the afternoon 90% chance falcons going after my birds if I let them out from 11am to 2pm I might get a break from March to June they will give a break but will see them once in while. Falcons ruins my flying.
Lots of pigeon flyers here in New York think the cooper hawk is the worst but I don’t mind it ... cooper gets the birds up flying and they birds look to make sure the cooper not hiding for a ambush attack we’re when the falcons hits them they just want to land because they know the falcon has the upper hand flying.
I have plenty of zoom but can't use it properly for a few reasons. The more you zoom the harder it becomes to focus and they will get blurred often. Being larger in the frame at the speed they have it is easier to lose them out of the frame as soon as they suddenly change direction and once lost, it is very hard to find them again at that speed. Also you can hardly see them on the viewfinder or LCD of the camera especially in sunny weather so you have to just approximate where they are and move the camera accordingly. If you know samples of videos filming birds at extreme height with extreme speed please let me know, I always try to improve.
Even if I could, I wouldn't use full zoom because you lose the opportunity to understand the full scene and the strategy of the birds... there is plenty detail of the birds in other kinds of videos. A bit more zoom would help but not too much.
@@Pigeonmaniacom yes you are right ,ofcourse in the attack, wider view is better, but just when the falcon is flying, maybe a better zoom shows its magnificence It s just a recommendation, you know the situation better, you are the director😊😊😊 we appreciate you👍
Amazing content with great music and action! Since you have seen a lot of attacks from the wild peregrine falcons and goshawks, can you tell me who of the two is faster in level flight in your opinion? Racing pigeons are among the fastest level fliers and it seems that the peregrine falcon is able to to catch up even if the distance between him and the pigeon is greater. I haven't seen goshawks catching up if the distance is relatively big? Since I"m a falconer, I have both, the peregrines and the goshawks and I have measured their speed in level flight with the Gps telemetry, in conditions without the help of the wind. On average the peregrines were about 20 percent faster in level flight, but I was wandering if the same thing applies to the wild birds? And one more thing, who is more successful in catching the pigeons? Thanks!
Interesting stuff. The hawk is more successful at the ground level and the falcon up in the sky. In level flight the falcon is often as fast as the pigeon, it depends on the weight and body type of the pigeon (there are small or large, fat or light pigeons). I filmed such a level flight, the falcon was after a small light pigeon, see the video on this channel "Falcon Hunting Racing Pigeon High Up in the Sky".
The peregrine is the fastest creature on the planet but its only the fastest flier in a dive. In level flight the gyr falcon is the fastest in the world.its also the biggest falcon in the world too. Great footage buddy.
If you fly your pigeons every day all year long they will get hawk smart. the hawk goes for the weaker ones and you dont want them anyway. the low flyers are easy prey for hawks. the hawks are too lazy to go after really high flyers. if you ar able to keep a flock of culls you can release them first as hawk bait and then release your valuable birds an hour later.
Yes, but this video is with the falcon which is a very different bird of prey compared to the hawk. However they both do natural selection, just that the falcon does a more severe selection.
I hit the like button before even watching your video . 👍🏽
