This first continous moment in the game as you leave Helgen, approach Whiterun and start exploring from there, it's the most amazing first few hours I've ever experienced in a game. Only World of Warcraft in 2004 comes close. The whole game is exceptionally well made, but that start, you can tell they put a LOT of very deliberate efforts into making it the experience it is. Especially the sight of what turned out to be Bleak Falls Barrows in the cloudy, snowy distance and how it is placed in the terrain. It sets a mood and "tone" as they like to say that really captured and drew me in to it and whatever else might be around the map.
The game is so well designed from a free to do whatever you want RPG perspective. Yes you can be the mythical dragonborn. But you really don't have to be. I use the alternate start mod that can plop you down as a random nobody practically anywhere. I first became the Archmage of winterhold BEFORE becoming the dragonborn, and this worked perfectly. The game accommodated not starting at helgen as if it was made to. The mod just changes the initial start. For comparison I did something similar in fallout 4 and died in 5 min to a mirelurk queen because the start location I picked had one nearby and you were never meant to be anywhere near here for a long time because fallout 4 is so straitjacketed by its story.

8:36 As Todd kicks the wolf in the face & chops it's skull in half with his sword the crowd cheer wildly. Nine years of kicking wolves in the face later & these same video game fans will be deriding Todd's creation for it's "basic" combat.
It plays to its strengths, the game has a good sense of visual style / player friendliness. Shit like this wasn’t so common back then. Lotta innovation in this game, you can’t deny it. All it needed was the intricacy’s of Fallout and Fallout 2’s RPG mechanics. But, still you can’t get mad at him for just showing off the game 😭
@@user-dnf83n0s8sg9uyup all it needed was real rpg mechanics. Even though the nv morality sustem was heavily flawed it still made for some cool moments. Factions as well.
Even though this all happened in 2011 I still got extremely excited as I watched this. And a little side note, the audience is amazing just screaming "KILL IT!!" When he sees anything. Amazing.
It warms my heart how you can tell the crowd is slowly realizing what a masterpiece they're in for.

10 years later and i think i've played through this game once ever year since its release. From PS3 and 360 - PS4 - PS5 and XSX. I will 100% play it when I decide to build a PC too. Side note, I love how at the end he used the Fire Storm spell before he absorbed the dragons soul and made it look like it was an animation.
Fun fact. When I used to watch that clip before the game was out, I assumed that the character automatically did that animation and screamed like that when he absorbed a dragon's soul at the end of combat.
@@comfylain thank god that doesnt happen, the animation is alright but the whole dovahkin scream like he was an anime protag was kinda cringe.

Must have watched this video 50 times before Skyrim came out. It's still such a fun reveal to watch with the excitement of the crowd.
I come back to this video every one in a while. I remember being so hyped for the things the crowd is cheering for. Dual weilding, magic and a sword at the same time? Perk tree? You name it. Love the crowd screaming to kill things lmao
I want to be this excited for ES6
I hope Todd showcases ES6 just like this
@@jyuinchi3461 hopefully this is the year we get a tiny glimpse of the game, even if it is just an in game trailer showcasing the world.
@@bl00dlikewayne Hmm I really doubt that I'm afraid. They ususally don't show much until the last year of development. My bet is they have only just now began transitioning to full production for TES6 and there will be at least three more years before we see anything resembling footage, then perhaps another two for release. :(

@@spbalanceHey, at least it's in development lol. Sucks we gotta wait so long but on the bright side, it can only get better with time. No game has ever suffered from extra development.

This was such a treat to watch. I've put well over a thousand hours into Skyrim with the help of mods and it's the game I've played the most to date. I try to imagine what it must have been like to have seen this all the way back in 2011, when the previous Elder Scrolls was Oblivion and the last BGS game was Fallout 3. This could not have been a better demo. I also loved all the little things people lost their minds over, like the flames spell being cast for the first time. If I'm ever feeling down I'll come here and see people react in this way to my favorite game of all time.
Funny how they make vanilla Skyrim seem so beautiful and new even today.
One of the most beautiful games that has aged well with time still play it weekly and the modding community is still alive and well I had never seen a game like this before and I am happy I discovered it the first month it came out I had never played RPGs before Skyrim.
This game seems to fun. Can’t wait to play the full version!
Kinda sad they removed the option to talk to giants :/.

Bruh, Imma mod it back in
You can talk to giants actually, there’s a quest for it, a night to remember

I was there in the centre-left of the audience. Not the best seat but I felt on top of the world. Can't believe 11.11.11 is right around the corner, so hyped for this masterpiece to release.

did anyone notice he used fire storm at the end when he was absorbing the dragon soul?
Late but Yes
BennyNeb he did that to make it look 1000 times cooler
can youdo that in the game? i've Always been trying to find out
John Cena yepp. If my memory is correct, the master fire spell is something like a firestorm. When using the spell it causes an animation that looks like the character absorbing something
Jay Lee thx bro
this euphoria almost made me cry lol, great footage
What a heart warming reaction. Little do they know it’ll be over 10 years before they finish the next one 😅

I am guessing ES6 won't be out until 2026 or 7.

Crazy how 2011 had Dark Souls and Skyrim, one of the best years of all time

Most self aware Tod Howard ever was.
With passion and hard work one can even improve after making a great game like this. Passion and hard...cough...fallout 76...cough....
Something about watching debut presentations make you feel like you're there experiencing it for the first time.
i have a feeling that when Todd demos ES6 in 3-4 years the crowd will hype just like this if not more
edit: lmaooo i said 2 years ago that it'd be 3-4 years... here in 2020 it's not 1-2 years away so lets sayyyy 3-4 years from NOW. hope I don't have to come back in 2 years and make another adjustment
Edit 2: it's been another 2 years since the last edit 🤦🏾🤦🏾 Starfield is coming out this year and my guess was always the year after its release they would start discussing TES6, so my prediction since the start has been when Todd demos TES6, which is likely the year before or of release... so now I'm thinking they'll mention the game next year 2024, start discussing the game's certain aspects 2025, proper demo reveal of the game in 2026 w a planned release a few months after...
This elder scrolls game really has taken way too long to arrive man

@@freshnesbro3792Lighten up, Francis.
@@freshnesbro3792 lmao what is this take? You know literally nothing about me dawg stop projecting. Gaming as an entertainment/art form is pretty mainstream these days it is actually possible for someone to not be a complete loser whilst enjoying games believe it or not. Take a closer look at my pfp before you label me as some couch potato type 😘
@@RedShirtGuy96 Sounds very interesting, did not know about the mod. Will try it next time. Cheers
