    • @IslamBenfifi
      @IslamBenfifi 4 роки тому +41

      @@mantegna1506 it is Anatolian music played for centuries on those lands by the ancestors of the people that they call themselves Turkish. It is as Turkish as it gets.

      @@mantegna1506 no I'm not a Turk to be nationalist.
      And yes, tea as a drink is British. By your logic garlic is Central Asian and anyone else claiming it in their national cuisine is committing cultural appropriation.
      Also by your logic, Northern Indians are invaders who claim their spices and cuisine from the poor Dravidians.
      Or no one can claim an alphabet as their own unless they're Phoenician.

      I'm originally from Morocco. And although i have to admit that I'm not too knowledgeable about Greek and "Ottoman" Turkish culture. I do have to say that I see way more similarities between Greeks and Turks (from turkey) than i see between Greeks and western Europeans. When I first heard Turkish music in 1985, I was inspired to write a short Turkish dance for piano. I had to use a unique scale to emulate the eighth tones found in the Turkish scale, and came up with the key of one sharp, only it was not F sharp, it was C sharp with a tonal center on E. This did not match any traditional Western scale or mode, and I researched long and hard to find its equivalent. After no success, I suddenly realized what key it was in: as it was a Turkish scale, it must be in the key of Asia Minor!

    • @PatrickBengio
      @PatrickBengio 4 роки тому +2

      It's actually called Phrygian ♮6, in jazz, I personnally call it just Phrygian 6. It's the second mode of melodic minor. It does bear some ressemble to a ''western'' version of the Makam used in this wonderful piece. You're right that this scale is rarely used in itself in Western Music, in jazz it is used as ''secondary'' mode over minor 7 chord, but rarely (or even never?) as the central scale of a tune. So I would be very happy to hear your piano piece if you had a recording!! I actually - happy coincidence - very recently composed a choir piece in this scale, I'd also be happy to share it with you if you'd like.

    • @PatrickBengio
      @PatrickBengio 4 роки тому

      Also found this, if you're interested, it's also called the ''Assyrian Scale''.... equivalent to Dorian b2 scale, also. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorian_%E2%99%AD2_scale

      Jazz has always been my weak point in theory. In music school, our jazz artist in residence and I would trade improvisations--he would do jazz, and I would do classical the way Mozart, Beethoven, and Debussy would. We had mutual respect, as neither of us could cross over to the other's style!
      You've inspired me to post the music to my website; after a few other priorities, I'll get it there. Meanwhile, I can send you graphic of the original handwritten score, and yes, I'd like to hear yours as well: don@orfeomusic.org
