What makes me cry is seeing Mae Martin cry. Watching Feel Good, I know it's acting, but the urge to reach through the screen and hug them was overwhelming. The only other person who gets me that emotional seeing them cry is Selena Gomez. It legitimately feels like one of my kids is crying, and I just can't keep it together.
When my daughter was about 11 we went on a Europe trip. Like Mae, the over the top wealth and opulence of the many churchy properties we visited made an impression. Finally, at the Doge’s palace in St Marks square in Venice she announces, “these churches have all this space, they should let the homeless sleep here.”
My husband and I just adopted a little dog from the shelter. She has really bad separation anxiety, but if I play the handsome pod for her while I'm gone, she will relax and lay down for a nap. I just had to thank you all for what your podcast does for me and now, for my little dog. Much love ❤-A
Totally get Mindy’s reason to cry! As an immigrant from the UK to NZ - I always get teary when my kids sing the national anthem at school. The hoops you have to jump through as an immigrant and the people you leave behind make it tricky but it’s so worth it and I am so thankful.
The pope thing was shown on the local news & we saw Tig walking around with her mouth agape as in awe. My wife said she was following Whoopi Goldberg around. Tig can make us smile without even saying a word. Love you Handsomes 😂
Fortune, I just saw you on the studio lot last week and was desperate to yell out “So Handsome!” but we had just been told not to interact with cast members from other shows, so I didn’t and have regretted it ever since. Love you all and love the podcast!!
I just cannot get enough of your show It is so funny imagine that three comedians getting together talking about awesome stuff and it being funny lol 🤣 Thank you for bringing this to you too It's always a joy every Tuesday morning I get to watch it😊
I listened to the podcast on the commute home. When Tig Notaro began speaking out the Movie Mask and Cher's letter scene, tears, many tears came down! On Cheesy crying...when I was in my teens I used to cry watching The Love Boat concluding scenes, especially when Julie and Captain Stubbing made a heart felt love connection happen. It got me EVERY time!!!!! LOL! In the not so cheesy realm when Brokeback Mountain came out, seeing it for the first time I left the theatre sobbing all the way to the car. That movie STILL devastates me!!! Tig, so glad you chose to accept the Pope's invitation. His health is struggling and who knows how much longer we will be graced with his humanitarian light. Not a perfect humanitarian but true through and through. His track record with the LGBTQ community definitely needs work but perhaps through the subtle and magnificent offerings of Tig Notaro, who knows what miracles may unfold! Thank you Handsome's! You all bring more light, joy, and peace into the world with each podcast. I am a grateful and appreciative listener.
The statue of David is huge! The actual statue is in one of the museums, there are two other versions within Florence (one in the main Piazza i think and another bronze copy elsewhere), but the Michelangelo original is (in my opinion as a 6'3 giant human) huge!
I'm a marshmallow when it comes to seeing anything about a child or animal being abused....I cry buckets. I have 3 rescues and I would rescue them all if I could. I can't even pare down the movies or music that tears me up. I love, love, love your podcast! Keep up the awesome work ladies.
Ultimately me... To this day... Mufasas death and Simbas despair and sadness ruins me every time... I become an instant mess of tears when I see it. 😅😭❤️
I've had full sobbing breakdowns on planes watching movies. The first two times, I was sure it was the movies -- Still Alice and the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy. The third time it was Captain America: Civil War, and I started to realize it was the plane, not the movie.
I found out yesterday that I have cancer so it was a pretty rough night. But I woke up to the handsomes this morning and now I think I might just be able to get through this 🩵
Watching this podcast on the treadmill has added a whole new level of danger to my life. At any given moment I’m at risk of laughing too hard, tripping, and being flung off the treadmill in front of all the gym bros. So cool. So dangerous. So brave.
1) I feel like Mae’s little comment about Fortune lotioning girls up was under-appreciated. 2) you also missed labeling their airplane crying tidbit a Mae fact! 3) so glad to hear Tig talk about Andrea. I was bummed she didn’t talk about the event they did together when she was in Denver, so it was lovely to hear Andrea get some love.
Just thinking about Paul Giamatti delivering the line "I am always going to regret...just not being there. I'll miss your faces. They remind me of God." makes me cry.
The first time I treaded water I was exhausted after 15 minutes too. I studied history in college and the opulence of the church was a through line, but they’ve constructed some incredible buildings.
Possibly best ep yet! Turns out l’il cowboy and i have cry moments in common. I can truly think about Matt Damon and Robin Williams in the scene and automatically cry. I almost thought one of the two southerners weren’t going to mention Steel Magnolias! Phew - Fortune saved from driving off the road yelling at my phone! 😂😂😢😢. Love you all - and MINDY!!! What a treat
Oh!! And thanks for mentioning Kennedy Center Honors! It is much watch family TV at our house and - opppphhh - I watch the Led Zeppelin/Heart every few months - the song, the choir, Jason Bonham of it all 😮😢😮😢😮😢😮😢 I’m dead everytime
@fortune, when is this next special coming out? I went to your show and it was the most I ever laughed at a show! I want to re-listen to it repeatedly asap! I need a Netflix release!
“The Creation of Adam” was designed and painted by Michelangelo during 1508- 1512 and is located in the Sistine Chapel. The image of god’s hand reaching out to and enlivening adam’s hand is a great example of visual art so potent that it sticks tightly to our little human brains @thehandsomepod ‘s next guest should include a visual artist 🎨 🥰
My husband welling up with tears has become a (mostly) weekly tradition since we were married 20+ yrs ago! Not because of me - because we check out CBS Sunday morning news and Steve Hartman segments get him every time- not that they don’t get me but all we have to do is hear Steve’s voice and we both go “oh no - here we go!” Totally worth it for the amazing humanity Steve shines a light on (and a reminder for my “tough guy” New Yorker hubs to have perspective ). ❤❤
In fact, I used one of favorites when my freshman teens were complaining about their notoriously “mean, boring, annoying” teacher. I’m like you spend 50 - 90 minutes a day and his job is to teach you ding dongs 🙏🏻🙏🏻 to him, how do you know who he is a person 😂 I know. I’m fun mom but videos resonate ua-cam.com/video/FuOnJwCA5ZU/v-deo.htmlsi=rDViwv_UtNNKYEXv
The massive three hour side quest I spent crying at Kennedy Center Honors clips! I recommend the Bruce Springsteen & Sting honors in addition to Led Zeppelin. Some epic performances. There are also some phenomenal tap & ballet tributes and a violin duet from 1978 that is otherworldly. Also anything where Dave Grohl performs!
I cry multiple times during the Olympics. Summer, Winter, doesn't matter. 😅 Also, Mae, on the topic of men crying find the video "It's Alright to Cry" with Rosie Grier from Free To Be (You and Me)
Sunshine on my shoulders was from a movie, Sunshine a young woman dying from cancer. One of the first movies filmed in Vancouver, BC. They lived on a houseboat in False Creek.
It doesn’t take much to make me cry in a movie or song etc. I breakdown completely in Good Will Hunting; during the scene Mae mentioned, also when Robin Williams is talking about his wife & then when Ben Affleck’s character says that every day when he comes to pick Matt Damon up for work he hopes that he’s not going to be there…& then at the end…he isn’t…😩 Oof! Gets me every time! Again, in agreement with Mae, Tom Cruise can get me boohooing. In Cocktail when he goes to Jordan’s parents place & does his whole speech, trying to get her back! I can’t even listen to Dire Straits Romeo & Juliet without balling my eyes out! I’m a big ol’ sook apparently! When my little brother was about 3 years old he was watching The Little Mermaid, barely making a sound throughout the whole movie until the end when Ariel marries Prince Eric, & he suddenly exclaims “why is she leeeaaving?!?” with tears & snot running down his red little face! He was heartbroken that she was leaving her family! Poor, sweet little guy!🥹
Wow these must be recorded over a month in advance because I watched Conan's video of him talking about this trip to the Vatican and he said it was a few weeks ago already.
Luv that version of Heart honoring Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center honors!💕💕 I have watched that video at least 100x and I tear up and get goose bumps EVERY single time. Luv that Mae gets it…
As a cisgender man listener I cry without fail watching certain movies. 'Schindler's List', 'Big Fish', 'Hook', 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower', multiple points in the 2016 BBC miniseries of 'War & Peace', the Netflix series 'Sex Education', and in 'Feel Good' so... thanks for that Mae 😛
I have never heard of anyone else banging their heads to go to sleep but my brothers did this as small kids while they vocalized "abba, abba, abba". Such a weird memory prompt!
YES. Men are also humans and to see them cry or even having deep emotion ( like in the movies) it affirms their humaness and a relief that they Are not the repressed versions that society often forces them to be. LOVE JOhn Denver the ultimate in expressing deep emotions esp about nature......I relate so much to John and his activism! SO COOL TIG that you had a JD song at yer wedding!
Without fail, I will WEEP when I hear stories about people becoming naturalized citizens. Folks have to work SO hard, for SO long, and sacrifice SO much to make it happen, and then it finally does!! 😭😭😭😭😭
15 years under DADT, this proud lesbian doesn't cry because the military made me man up and deal my entire career. I know when something is sad, I just can't make tears except when my beloved ginger cat passed away. Unexpected question, long time pod listener, I liked this question.
I love you all and the pod. Big fun hearing little Toronto Tig bits. Tig did you take your boys to Riverdale Farm? When I was very young it was a very old Zoo.
I'm the same way if a dude is crying I'm crying extra hard. Also I think I cried every episode watching This Is Us, almost went a episode without crying then the last 2 minutes hit hard
Got the chills just listening to Tig describe the scene in Mask. That movie! 😢 Also, the death scene in Terms of Endearment is probably the most realistically heartbreaking I’ve seen. Shirley MacLaines turning away…oof 😢😢😢
Hey handsomes, I Just turned 55 and no longer bang… lol I’m adopted( at 4 months) I rocked myself until 21, and did the head banging thing as a kid. I think it’s a trauma response. On my case separation anxiety?
My schmaltzy cry is The Sound of Music when the nun sings climb every mountain 🌄. 😅 Also, we should be gentle with the head pounding - sounds like stimming to me ✌️😘
The two songs that make me cry every damn time I hear them: The Circle of Life from The Lion King, and Pas de Deux from The Nutcracker. 😭 And since my husband’s death, Empty Garden (Elton wrote this to honor John Lennon after his death) just destroys me.
That scene in the movie 50/50 when Joseph Gordon Levitt is going into surgery to get his tumors removed…he’s crying saying I don’t want to die…gets me every time 😭😭😭
This episode made me realize Tig has a similar delivery and tone to a couple nuns I have known. Surprisingly hilarious people often, nuns. ...and now I am feeling a bit weird about being attracted to Tig.
I read somewhere that tears of joy have different enzymes than tears of sadness. I believe that’s why we feel better after a good cry because we’re getting rid of those enzymes.
I have some friends from the ivory coast of Africa. I would be over at the house that one of the guys lived in and would be watching a show movie on the big screen television he had. All of the guys would watch me instead of whatever movie we were watching to see how long it took me to start crying.
The mother from the lower class cabins in the movie 'Titanic' just putting her 2 children to bed because she knows there's no hope of them being saved... I was a newer mom of a 3 year old son when that movie came out and I just couldn't imagine having to do such a thing! It broke me!
Re: Treading - I am working on a deal where I dog sit for access to a pool where I can tread. Wish me luck!

Hey Handsome! Just saw this his and thought it was interesting: “One theory is that crying may have evolved as a kind of signal -- a signal that was valuable because it could only be picked up by those closest to us who could actually see our tears. Tears let our intimates in -- people within a couple of feet of us, who would be more likely to help.” Also, I have never commented on any of your episodes and I swear I’m not a stalker, but Mae, I will be sending you a message on Instagram because I just saw a shirt and I’m dying to send it to you.
I remember seeing Parvati on Survivor and thinking she's a sneaky mean girl. I'm glad to hear these occasional glimpses into her life now, as it appears she's grown out of it (and I'm sure I also judged her much too harshly - she must have just said or done something negative about my favorite on the show - and I don't even remember who that would have been 😂. Also I get it, you need to act a certain way to succeed in Survivor. That's why I don't really like it anymore, haven't watched in years). I enjoy the pod!

Handsome is really changing the world - you’ve got us all treading water, complimenting our own cooking, just being handsome pretty little ladies
Don't forget our pawntees!
Completely agree ❤
The end of Coco, when Miguel sings to his great grandmother and she remembers and sings along. Gets me every time.
SAME!!!
That whole movie in general is just…. A lot in the waterworks department.
Love that Tig talks about Andrea Gibson and her poetry. Wow, she is amazing and wise.
What makes me cry, is the videos of soldiers returning home to their dogs after a tour of duty. Every time, floods of tears.
Dogs coming home to anyone from anywhere, being lost, the shelter, from the front yard.. anywhere lol.
I can’t explain it but there is something so undeniably delightful and human about Mae.
Sarah Silverman once said, "Sell the Vatican & feed the world" and it's the most succinct way I've ever heard it put.
My husband and I just adopted a little dog from the shelter. She has really bad separation anxiety, but if I play the handsome pod for her while I'm gone, she will relax and lay down for a nap. I just had to thank you all for what your podcast does for me and now, for my little dog. Much love ❤-A

Starting my Tuesday, listening to my favorite podcast, imagining the Pope in a "Pretty Little Lady" shirt.....perfection!!
"TICKLE YOUR TIGS!!!"
Wait so no one else immediately pictured Tig blessing the pope with dike dust? No? Just me? Hmmkay 😂😂
The movie "SOMEWHERE IN TIME"... Sobbing... Every Damn Time. xo
I just cannot get enough of your show It is so funny imagine that three comedians getting together talking about awesome stuff and it being funny lol 🤣 Thank you for bringing this to you too It's always a joy every Tuesday morning I get to watch it😊

Man, do I ever look forward to this podcast. You 3 are frigging amazing ❤
Mae: Do you get to meet him personally, do you think?
Tig: I think so, yeah.
Mae: F*ck off.
I cried just hearing Mindy's answer. I could imagine the scene

Great episode as always, funny and vulnerable. Loved Fortune and Mindy in The Mindy Project.
Every time I binge watch Feel Good it makes me cry. So thanks for that.
I was teary through all of this. Wtf is wrong w me. You guys are fab 💚
When Bing Bong sacrifices himself to save Joy in Inside Out. My daughter and I can't help crying every time, we've seen it at least 40 times lol.
I found out yesterday that I have cancer so it was a pretty rough night. But I woke up to the handsomes this morning and now I think I might just be able to get through this 🩵
Sorry to hear. Hope treatment goes well ❤
@@SusanHatcher-r9k thank you x
Sending you extra strength 🧡🧡🧡
I love Andrea Gibson. I was fortunate to see her and Tig here in Denver. Such a wonderful show. ❤ Love the handsome pod.
It's a wonder how there are so many perfect cute romantic stories between Tig and Stephanie. These two are like a gift that keeps giving 😍
I SOBBED when I was 7 years old watching Frosty melt in the warmth😢😭
“Tickle your Tigs” did not get the attention it deserved 😂
Watching this podcast on the treadmill has added a whole new level of danger to my life. At any given moment I’m at risk of laughing too hard, tripping, and being flung off the treadmill in front of all the gym bros. So cool. So dangerous. So brave.
You’re definitely living on the edge!
You guys talking about what makes you cry made me cry! ❤

I’m tearing up, listening to Tig tell about John Denver’s Sunshine song.
Possibly best ep yet! Turns out l’il cowboy and i have cry moments in common. I can truly think about Matt Damon and Robin Williams in the scene and automatically cry.

I didn't realize how much of a delay there was on these pods! The pope thing was weeks ago!
@fortune, when is this next special coming out? I went to your show and it was the most I ever laughed at a show! I want to re-listen to it repeatedly asap! I need a Netflix release!
Yessssss, thank you for making my wish come true, live stream tix to the T.O show I can't go to!!!! 😭🥳💜💛💙🙌
Yall are so strong because yall didn’t cry one bit but I believe you just made thousands of people tear up this episode ❤
Oh Fortune, it’s over 10 years since my doggo went to puppy heaven and I’m wondering when the occasional sobs will end. ❤
Just watched "Am I OK?"... It was so good and so funny! Love you Tig!
This pretty lil’ cowboy is tearing up! Mask!! Such a great movie

My husband used to cry at dead squirrels, possoms, raccoons. Didnt cry when when his mom died, but roadkill got him everytime
Super yay to treading water!
The second Mae mentioned LedZep at the Kennedy Center I teared up, because YES, that's my tear-jerker!!!
My husband welling up with tears has become a (mostly) weekly tradition since we were married 20+ yrs ago! My answer to Mindy's question is Flash Mobs; I'm bawling like a baby every time I watch a video of one. Pure schmaltz.
I cried at the end of the last samurai. 😂😂😂 I surprised myself for sure.
Oh I'm first! So exciting. Happy to see your faces first thing in the morning
Love the emo ep!!!!! Fun fact there’s a science to tears, we have 3 types of tears only 1 being emotions based 🤓🤩
We had Mask (the Cher one) on vhs in the 80s. Watched it many times. Such a good movie.

Wow Mindy, way to make these funny little ladies, so serious!! 😂❤
Luv that Mae gets it…
I was fine, until Obama came on, made it through Robert Plant tearing up, but watching Obama really get it killed me in the most beautiful way
I effing love this pod, especially all the community and inside jokes.
I relate to Fortune crying about losing Biggie someday. I’ve done that many times with my various dogs over my lifetime. So strange lol
Luv Mask….I thought that was one of Cher’s best movies! 💕💕⚡️⚡️
Oh my God, sunshine on my shoulder. I forgot about that. Did you read the book sunshine? That book made me cry for days
The movie from the 70s! I bawled so hard.
Watch the Dieppe Bell commercial. Tears, big streaming tears everywhere.
The ending of "Fried Green Tomatoes"...I turn into butter.
Oh god! Mask was one of my first ever ugly cries in a movie when I was a kid.
