Igarashi doesn't hate Circle of the Moon. That's a misconception. The development team didn't consider the canon and it didn't fit with what was planned at that time, so they removed it all together. And the criticism was more about improving for the next title, which was Harmony of Dissonance. For example Aria of Sorrow didn't have an upgrade system for souls - which was added to Dawn of Sorrow. He's one of the few people who actually listen to what people want to see and tries hard to always improve his games, step by step.
Which is a shame, I feel you can add the baldwin and Graves easly to the story, even Nathan and Hugh can appear in the next show as secondary charters.
@@raro344 Circle of the Moon should've featured Carmilla as the main villain. Secondary vampires like she and Olrox could stand to have games where they're the end vampire really.
Mike - I am right there with you. Despite our age difference, my early years were spent consuming vampire films, games, and the like. Some of my first horror movies were the classic Hammer films featuring Dracula and other classic monsters. In the late 80's I was consuming Near Dark, Life Force, Monster Squad, The Hunger, and last but not least The Lost Boys. Buffy came along in the 90's, and thankfully Hellsing arrived before Twilight took us down that particular path. Castlevania games, even a few sessions of Vampire: The Masquerade. Shout out to Graham McTavish (Dracula) and Bill Nighy (Saint Germain), two great actors lending their voices to this amazing show. I absolutely adore the Castlevania series!
Castlevaynia is the best game adaption ever for sure... until arcane came out. Both are amongst my most favorite _things_ ever And i cant get my friends to watch either of them dammit.
Castlevania and Arcane are definitely 2 of the best video game adaptions regardless of which you like better, achievements that other adaptations should take note of going forward.
14:00 yeah, no the game actually feels pretty much like a 1 to 1 metroidvania done in a 3d plane; In fact, that is something that hurts it, as the areas are designed in such a way where they end up feeling a bit too big sometimes. As for the moment to moment, if you actually bother learning how the game works, combat in it is pretty good and you have a surprisingly in dept and fun moveset to use.
Lament of Innocence also remembered that it had a Z-axis to work with moreso than Curse of Darkness, but nah... let's condemn them _both_ as stupid anime shit because it's _weird_ and not burly Belmonts vs. Dracula in 2D.
@@CyberDragon10K Without even a single mention of the Innocent Devil mechanic and how it was the biggest evolution of the familiar system that Symphony introduced, or how your choice of weapon influenced how they developed, or iirc the series first crafting system when talking about Curse of Darkness. Not a word for either game's godly OST.
The animation was missing frames so much that it hurt to see at times. It's weird that nobody brings that up lol. But most of the time it looked decent enough.
Loved the MTG reference, so how did you like the Dracula style arts on the last innistrad set? I love they called the artist of the game covers for a collab but also the cards with illustrations inspired on the characters of the Bram stoker novel made what otherwise meh set into a really cool looking one
That's fascinating because I'm of the exact flipside of that. Season three and four were pretty good, but one and two are just _immaculate_ to me. I'm curious what it was you found to be stronger in the later two seasons?
@@glock16 Man you're just another one of those people who likes to go around hating on things that are universally loved huh guy? If you don't like Castlevania why are you here like 🤦
Good job guys! Great video.. I feel grateful to have played Symphony of the night day one back in elementary and it was one of the best experiences in gaming I've ever had, it was hard for me but being able to level up, try new weapons, special button combo attacks, adding familiars..etc it made the game much more accessible while also opening options for different playthroughs with different Alucard builds..
My question is does Konami have any plans to revive the Castlevania series now that Netflix singlehandedly dug it up? Either through supporting manga, games, or any sort of official merchandise?
The answer is clearly no. They’re either gonna double down on pachinko or do the next big trend: fucking NFTs. Because Konami is run by the devil and they don’t do anything nice anymore.
I doubt it. They don’t really have the infrastructure for these games, and all of their talent left the company. It’s definitely possible, but I think it’s unlikely
I have a weird history with this franchise. I knew it existed from a young age because my dad is a retro gamer and I’ve been an AVGN fan for a long time, but I didn’t specifically care about it. When the show came out I told my dad about it but we never followed up on it. AND THEN when season 3 came out I rediscovered the show/franchise and starting playing the games. It’s a big weird circle
Loved playing Castlevania 3 growing up when I started watching the show on Netflix I quickly connected the dots. I was hooked I don't think I ever watched a series so fast and craved for more season after season. Really loved the video. I'm always excited when you guys release content
That was a pretty great deep dive on the franchise. A shame they moved away from the 2D side scrolling genre that they basically pioneered/perfected (with Metroid).
@@DraculaTepes420 I agree. And I do enjoy a good story. The most memorable game for me is Wizardy Tale of the Forsaken Land on PS2. Great story and a very, very long game.
Yeah, ngl, the dragging of CoD through the ringer here was a 'lil offputting to me as a guy who played both that, portrait of ruin, and multiple classic SNES-Genesis era Castlevanias throughout their childhood. For it's time, I'd say Curse of Darkness was a banger that did a lotta stuff you didn't see much in it's year. (That, and let's be honest- you can only repeat the Belmont vs. Dracula trend so many times, so it makes sense to depart from that formula.)
This was a fun one boys! Thanks for the hard work on an iconic but truly uneven series when it comes to piecing together the canonical timeline. Stoked to see the full anime breakdown in October!
The anime series was really good, and you felt genuine sympathy for everyone of importance from Trevor to Dracula himself, neither evil or perfect paragons of virtue. The most human moment that still stands out for me was the ending of the third season after everyone loses something. "You were living your life... having adventures, but now... you're living my life."
I'm going through a bit of a binge of your older content after your new release and I just got to say I love this video it's one of my favorite you guys have done not just because of how passionate you are about the subject matter but because of how different it is. Simply being about video games actually changes it up quite a lot and I know you guys aren't anime channel but I would love to hear you talk about some other stuff a little bit more often or at least have sections of some of the anime videos going to some variety of topics. You guys (as always) do a great job mixing it up and as always you're one of my favorite channels I couldn't ask for more but just watching this makes me think of the possibilities of you guys covering other mediums and I got to say, personally, I would love to see that.
Thank you for making your videos man.. I absolutely adore cowboy bebop, shamploo, steins;gate etc, and I find your prespectives on the things I like to be very relatable... and now I see a video on my favourite videogame series of all time! Keep up the good work :)
Aria of Sorrow was the only Castlevania game I played as a kid (I think). I never took to the franchise, and I'm not huge into video games from an actually playing them point of view, but it was the media that turned my attention towards gaining powers from fallen enemies. That one little thing from the game stuck with me throughout the years and is my favourite super power to this day.
Great video - amazing to see passionate content about Castlevania. The series really did hit hard - the castle attack w/ Bloody Tears and the following battle with Dracula - i teared up. Now, I clocked over 100h on Curse of Darkness, its deep and humongous - it deserves a little more credit than you give it, even if its one hell of a slog... St. Germain's presence even in CoD was strange. All that aside, what do you think of 1999?
i was recommended this show years ago but put it off until this video. thank you so much. i havent had this much enjoyment from a show in years. i cant remember the last time I felt that " no please I dont want this to end ". it was refreshing, fun, moving. a work of art. thank you. possibly would you give some similar recommendations or " if you liked this, youd enjoy this " whenever you speak on an a show, because i need more of this.
Great video. Castlevania is probably my favorite game series ever, discovering it in like October last year by the getting the collections on Xbox and playing the through the masterpiece that is Symphony of the Night was so much fun. The show was incredible and one of the best animated series ever. I’ve even thought of game ideas that could bring back the franchise, and my favorite would be basically a game with 4 games within it. A Simon campaign, a Trevor campaign with the squad back (especially Grant), a Richter campaign and a Julius Metroidvania that would give what everyone who played Aria and Dawn of Sorrow wanted.
I am huge fan of Warren Ellis, his contributing to the solo run on X-Man is my fav iteration of that character. When I read he was to be involved in this anime I was flipping shit and giggling at that same time. After watching the seasons I was not disappointed.
I was thoroughly impressed with how the production crew at Frederator was able to capture the essence of Castlevania so well, but I guess with the Metalocalypse experience it makes sense. SOTN still gets replays from me at least once every couple of years and I think without question has the best soundtrack. 🤘
I can tell how much of a fan you are of Castlevania, but I just can't understand why you and so many others love the show. Considering it was made by someone who never cared about Castlevania. To me, Warren Ellis made a show that distinctively did not feel like Castlevania at all.
Mike, your passion really came through on this video and it made that 41 minute video pass by so quick. Can’t wait for Hell Mouth and can’t wait for the next video. Keep up the good work
The intro slapped so fuckin hard dude!! You guys are doing an awesome job, keep up the great work! The only channel i patreon for continues to show how good of an idea it was to do so!
Warren Ellis wanted to call Godbrand "Mathias Cronqvist" because _it was a cool name he saw while skimming the Wiki._ He had _no idea_ why Konami wouldn't let him do that. But hey, what do I know? Best video game adaptation _ever_ (lol).
Castlevania Netflix became my favourite series ever, its just so freaking good, i hope the next Castlevania series that is gonna focus on Richter is at least as good as this one
This a total banger of a video man ! Would love a sequel to it where you talk more in debt about the story of the Netflix show and your favorite character 🙏🏾

Even though I never played the games, I really enjoyed you going through the history of the series. Also if berserk gets this kind of adaptation, I'd lose my shit
This makes me appreciate that SotN was my first castlevania game. That and dawn of sorrow are the only castlevania games I really got into so my impression of Castlevania has been 100% positive.
I haven't played much of castlevania. Even then the show managed to blow my expectations to oblivion with each season and get a special place in my mind. Really hope more people will give it a chance.
Well made video, I've always wanted to get my hands on Lament of innocence and Curse of darkness having played a demo of the former years ago on Ps2 lol.
I would love for the CV series to cover Rondo/Symphony in the same manner it covered 3. That would make those seasons a perfect sequel. They could even group them by the new "saga" trend that everything seems to be jumping on.
loved this and always wished vampire hunter D Got a bit more love. i read up on the lore and fricking space vampires and all the crazy stuff in that world was astounding. i just wanted more man.

Me personally, I think the 3D Castlevania games for the PS2 are very underrated.
I agree
Bloody Tears will never not be one of the greatest pieces of video game music ever made. Every remix is a banger.
Bonsai Pop delivering bangers after bangers, like dang, keep up the good work guys, some of the best content Ive ever seen!
First learned of Castlevania through the Netflix series, totally loved it
I love the game series and this show as well. I didn’t mind the changes they made and I loved the Easter eggs in the show. This series has become a comfort show of mine. The animation is top notch, the art style is amazing, I love the choreography,
I just love this show
Igarashi doesn't hate Circle of the Moon.
@@CyberDragon10K yeah you are right. You could even have her tapping dracula power and becoming a monster in the end.
I can tell Mike was digging the making of this. Excellent stuff as always. Spoiling us in the last few months ❤️
Both are amongst my most favorite _things_ ever
And i cant get my friends to watch either of them dammit.
Castlevania and Arcane are definitely 2 of the best video game adaptions regardless of which you like better, achievements that other adaptations should take note of going forward.
Castlevania > Arcane
And the why is simple.
Castlevania is not an angsty teen history
@@ParanoiaXYZ > Is not an angsty teen story
Bruh literally Alucard lol
It is a terrible adaptation which is funny because nobody would care about this story if it isn't attached to the Castlevania IP.
@@MrSilentProtagonist If you say so spud.
14:24 Lol you guys somehow always get me to laugh out loud. Thanks for yet another awesome video!
18:51 Wait a second, wasn't Castlevania Legends the first game with a sole female protagonist in Sonia Belmont?
14:00 yeah, no
the game actually feels pretty much like a 1 to 1 metroidvania done in a 3d plane; In fact, that is something that hurts it, as the areas are designed in such a way where they end up feeling a bit too big sometimes.
I hope this video is doing well, I watch it literally every day and have shared it alot
The animation was missing frames so much that it hurt to see at times. It's weird that nobody brings that up lol. But most of the time it looked decent enough.
Budget my dude.
The animation team did the best they could with what they had.
It's why when Netflix shows aren't watched they're canceled.
That “god is not here” line absolutely fucking sends me.
After HIM
XD
That's not entirely true...I think the Soma Cruz games are more anime than SotN...
Loved the MTG reference, so how did you like the Dracula style arts on the last innistrad set? I love they called the artist of the game covers for a collab but also the cards with illustrations inspired on the characters of the Bram stoker novel made what otherwise meh set into a really cool looking one
I am not ashamed to say I dropped 40 bucks to get the Ayami Kojima Soring art card
I forgot about the Kojima variant! I have been buying the nonfoil English cards but I haven't finished my set yet.
I thought the first 2 seasons were really good but the final 2 absolutely blew me away
How??
That's fascinating because I'm of the exact flipside of that. Season three and four were pretty good, but one and two are just _immaculate_ to me. I'm curious what it was you found to be stronger in the later two seasons?
The Castlevania anime is so good and surprised me for a western Netflix production. If only Konami would make good games again outside of collections.
We still have FromSoftware, at least.
How did it surprise you? It was the same inhuman garbage netflix makes all of their other series like.
I considered it the best animated videogame adaptation until Arcane came out.
@@Miraihi Castlevania is still king, but Arcane is close.
I really enjoyed Curse of Darkness. I enjoyed the familiars and the weapon crafting grind. But I value gameplay over story any day
yeah I loved that game
A good balance of both is essential.
I really LOVE Lord's of Shadow. It's not without it's problems, but it's great none the less.
We’re in this
Ost from the jump is incredible haha
He looks like somebody that would be scared of a video game
This was a fun one boys! Thanks for the hard work on an iconic but truly uneven series when it comes to piecing together the canonical timeline. Stoked to see the full anime breakdown in October!
When you can tell already that it’s going to be one of the greatest videos they’ve ever made.
Aria of sorrow was my first castlevania and until this day it hurts me that we will never get a War of 99 game
Bro I fucking love hector
Love this series and the channel. Thank you for doing this!
Lamont of Innocence was my favorite 3D Castlevania. Mainly due to the soundtrack, but I did love the story.
I’m sure someone has already said it but that wasn’t the vampire killer, it was the Morningstar whip.
Vampire Killer whip is actually never mentioned in the series, what is weird to say the least.
Season 4 : episode 9
That's it that's the comment
Oh dear
To Boldly SEARCH…
XD
die hard Castlevania fan here, I love how you continuously use SOTN OST for your videos.
sorry but i completely disagree with your take that H.O.D OST was bad.
I can tell how much of a fan you are of Castlevania, but I just can't understand why you and so many others love the show. Considering it was made by someone who never cared about Castlevania. To me, Warren Ellis made a show that distinctively did not feel like Castlevania at all.
Symphony of the Night is best one.
I love the Advance and DS games too. Glad we got Advance collection. Hopefully we get DS collection
Mike, your passion really came through on this video and it made that 41 minute video pass by so quick. Can’t wait for Hell Mouth and can’t wait for the next video. Keep up the good work
If any of Berserk gets adapted ever again, I would not mind if it's done by the Castlevania team.
The intro slapped so fuckin hard dude!! You guys are doing an awesome job, keep up the great work! The only channel i patreon for continues to show how good of an idea it was to do so!
“Sypha and her Brooding Boyfriends” is my favorite show
Warren Ellis wanted to call Godbrand "Mathias Cronqvist" because _it was a cool name he saw while skimming the Wiki._ He had _no idea_ why Konami wouldn't let him do that.
But hey, what do I know? Best video game adaptation _ever_ (lol).
Must be my birthday to see another Bonsai Pop vid so soon, and it's about Castlevania???
Let's GOOOOOO~!
The early days of his imagination and fear are literally just like mine, scared of scary things but still intrigued and pushing through til games like Castlevania are just fun and cool shit now. Also, don't sleep on those GBA Castlevania game's
There is so many things I want to say in regards to your level of dedication for this game and the series and history that it holds that I don't think I'll ever be able to actually do it I just want to say bravo my good man bravo
Even though I never played the games, I really enjoyed you going through the history of the series. Also if berserk gets this kind of adaptation, I'd lose my shit
Aria of Sorrow got me hooked into Castlevania! The soul system was so good. Then went to Dawn of Sorrow
1:40 that’s CASTLEVANIA?!
Oh
Pachinko…
*Figures*
I guess I speak for many of us here...
WE WANT DEMON CASLE WAR OF 1999
This makes me appreciate that SotN was my first castlevania game.
The ‘irresponsible uncle’ story is soooo relatable 😆
I would love for the CV series to cover Rondo/Symphony in the same manner it covered 3.
That would make those seasons a perfect sequel.
They could even group them by the new "saga" trend that everything seems to be jumping on.
loved this and always wished vampire hunter D Got a bit more love. i read up on the lore and fricking space vampires and all the crazy stuff in that world was astounding. i just wanted more man.
Circle of the Moon was a staple in my life during my 3rd grade year and I think it solidified my love for anime, jrpgs all that stuff
The Castlevania show was so good, some of the most stunning animation I've seen
Personally I thought they could of gone the route if having a different belmont each season
I played the coin op at the arcade in the early 80s. Didn't play it again until it reached the ps2, curse of darkness music was excellent. But the show...I truly love. Keep it coming with the seasons please.
28:27 Whoa hold, up man. Who says shows for kids can't have depth? Ever heard of infinity train?
Mike on every video: "without *random franchise that crossed his path* Bonsai Pop WOULD NOT EXIST RIGHT NOW"
