Learned the hard way about aggressive males, kept making excuses for one of ours and he ended up almost killing our largest female. That second I took him out the back and that was it.
I did so much to accommodate him with different females, lights, brightness and colours, different feeds and treats. He wasted my time and proved to me sometimes male quail can be just plain mean!

I had to cull 2 that nearly offed each other in my rooster pen as I am packing for a month long vacation. Didn’t think I would be culling instead of packing for my trip but there I was. Now I have quail in the freezer. I tried accommodating as well, thus the rooster pen, but damn they can be bad boys! Peace and quiet in the rooster pen shortly after. It was a night and day difference. Here I am venting lol

Will a bird missing an eye be able to lay if a hen? I know you do not keep that bird. I have one living by itself at the moment.

Yes, it may still lay depending on stress levels. It's up to you whether you keep or cull.

once you figure out how much feed and care costs and sell more than you spend. I have 20 hens 4 roosters. 2 rescued hens makes 26 birds spend about 15. a month on food. 22 eggs a day. Leaves me cost free selling a few dozen eggs a month. I have a family of 4.

When you cull your birds that don't make your breeding program another option for me could be harvesting them for meat, correct?! You don't harvest them?

That is what is standardly means. They don't just toss them for funnies, they're still good meat

You've gotta be careful because males have been known to breed their female to death, especially if there is a bad ratio.
3-5 females per 1 male is typically the accepted ratio to avoid any issues.

Does confirmation really mean anything if all you want is meat and eggs?

Long term it could if it leads to poorer health, issues reproducing, etc. Especially true if you repeatedly breed without regard for selecting one's with desired traits.
