The crux of it is - The engine needs its fuel as a VAPORIZED mixture. The conversion of the fuel (petrol/diesel), from liquid form in the fuel tank, to the vaporized form, is done inside the carburettor of the motorcycle. It is inside the carburettor, that the fuel is mixed with a jet of clean air, coming from the air filter. This mixture of fuel and clean air is then sent inside the engine for ignition. Especially during winters or when a vehicle has been idle for many days, the engine might face starting problems and needs a little warm up. This can be achieved by providing such a mixture to the engine which is rich in fuel and has less of air content in it. This is where choke comes into the picture. The application of choke reduces the air intake and increases the fuel content in the mixture, when applied. This extra amount of fuel will make the mixture rich. This means more fuel content in the fuel-air mixture and thus quick ignition inside the engine.
Thanks for the cold start procedure. I just had one of these come into my shop and I kept messing it up. Also, nice mid-year in the background, I have a '59:)
Same here v-star 650 seems right for me sure I could probably do a 950 or higher but these smaller displacements and lighter weights really grow on you
Like the bobber job you or the prior owner did. Re-used the rear signals, would love a close up of that as I'm doing the same thing. Curious what seat pan you used whether custom or one of the commercial offerings. I like these in that you can bobber them without any frame cutting at all and if you save your parts can even convert it back to stock if you really wanted to.
I'm looking at this bike next undecided between this and the 950 but this for shaft drive and how long would you leave it with choke open before pushing back in
Did you paint it matte black? or was it purchased like this. I have a 2013 vstar custom i want to work on and i was trying to find some info.. Bike looks great.
Meanderthal17 The choke aka an enrichener reduces the amount of air in the air to fuel mixture thus, makes the mix more rich which puts a higher concentration of fuel into the engine. That is typically needed on an engine that is cold and carbureted.
do you throttle when you start the bike? I've heard different views on whether or not that is bad for the bike. btw, the manual says to use the choke every time you start the bike, it actually refers to it as the "starter"
It usually needs a full open choke to start. Then after a minute or so you gradually close the choke. There's no need for a choke open while the bike is warmed up and running.
Hey man... I’m super new to riding so please lmk if this is a mistake on my part or the bikes or if it’s normal... but my 2007 V-star needs me to actually pull the clutch in order to get it started, I can’t just hit the starter it physically needs me to pull the clutch in
frios011 I had the carbs completely redo when I first bought the bike, but not after this kit, No. After these videos were made I decided to return the kit and keep the air filter original.
@@tonyyu9659 I got the bike with a lot of stuff all really there. I added the seat, the mirrors, the gas cap. The rear fender and mid aps were already on there. It's all internet these days. See what you like and find it on the internet.
@@xjoe81x do you think it is a safe buy,? I hate to spend more time in the garage than the road if you get a good one with low miles on the clock , why i ask so much i want to buy one :)
I can't see how anyone above 5' 9 can ride a 650 because it was uncomfortable asf for me but don't get me wrong they're nice bikes but just uncomfortable for long rides

What did you do to make the forks look slimmer?
@@mikeharrison6570 Nothing, I purchased the bike that way.
Good stuff bro. Your videos have been a resource a couple times now in my two weeks of owning a v star. Appreciate the help
that is just what I want, it looks awesome it sounds nice and I bet it feels good on the road
Yes, Yes and Yes
Feels amazing I got one about 3 days ago and haven’t left it alone since
Thanks for the cold start procedure. I just had one of these come into my shop and I kept messing it up. Also, nice mid-year in the background, I have a '59:)
Quentin Rance Welcome
Really liked those black painted parts. I'm not addicted to all that chrome shinning everywhere in the bike.
Looking at one of these for my first bike. Looks and sounds great!
Great first bike.
Same here v-star 650 seems right for me sure I could probably do a 950 or higher but these smaller displacements and lighter weights really grow on you
Nice job! And at a fraction of the cost of a Harley.
Thank you. The bike was bought that way. The only thing that's needs new paint is my rear fender.
Pipes sound great
Thank you.
Just the video and explanation I was looking for, thanks :)
You're welcome!
Looking to buying a 650 bobber, would be my first bike ever. Beautiful bike! 🔥💨👍🏻
Thank you.
Just got one, amazing!
Absolutely fucking beautiful
Thank you!!!
Thank you!!! First bike no clue what I'm doing
We were all there once.
hey nice ride do u have a link for pipes and that seat brother at all ????
The pipes are Harde Chrome DD. The seat might have been from Blue Collar Bobbers.com

The bike has since been sold, sorry. I used the seat pan that came with the seat.
Muy fina y muy bonita la moto!! Buena maquina!! Un saludo compañero!!!
Muchas gracias!!!

Depends on the weather.
awesome looking bike, i have an 07
Did you paint it matte black? or was it purchased like this. I have a 2013 vstar custom i want to work on and i was trying to find some info.. Bike looks great.
Can you explain the choke? What it's for, and why the bike wouldn't start?
Meanderthal17 The choke aka an enrichener reduces the amount of air in the air to fuel mixture thus, makes the mix more rich which puts a higher concentration of fuel into the engine. That is typically needed on an engine that is cold and carbureted.
nah , a myth ,mine bike starts without choke
Sure, that's why engineers put it there, because it's not needed!
Brock Dalgetty hi, after I clean my carbs my v-star, start with the choke after I put it back in it shutdown, any suggestions? Thanks!
Just got my v star 650 today and same thing happened lol I was like "shit, it's too cold to start without the choke"
Yes.
Hi mate where do you buy the forward control I really like it.
Sorry my man... They came with the bike. I have no idea as to where to get them.
do you throttle when you start the bike? I've heard different views on whether or not that is bad for the bike. btw, the manual says to use the choke every time you start the bike, it actually refers to it as the "starter"
It has since been sold, but no i did not throttle the bike and yes I used the choke every time to start the bike.
What pipes are those? Exactly what I’m looking for
Hard Chrome DD
Hey, I'm super new to chokes, do you always need the choke? Do you ever close/open it all the way?
It usually needs a full open choke to start. Then after a minute or so you gradually close the choke. There's no need for a choke open while the bike is warmed up and running.
Beautiful brother! Where did you get the pipes and handle bars!
Thanks you
Thank you, those both were on the bike already but the pipes are Chrome Double D's
Hey man... I’m super new to riding so please lmk if this is a mistake on my part or the bikes or if it’s normal... but my 2007 V-star needs me to actually pull the clutch in order to get it started, I can’t just hit the starter it physically needs me to pull the clutch in
Again sorry if it’s a dumb question I literally JUST started riding 😂
You are suppose to start the bike while in neutral. No clutch needed if in neutral.
Also have kick stand up. That usually only kills if you let out clutch while in gear and stand is down. But maybe?
Where did you get that rear fender?? I really like it
Corza D33 It came with the bike when I bought it . Sorry.
All good, its a very nice fender looks slick.
Did you rejet the carb after you installed the new exhausts???
frios011 I had the carbs completely redo when I first bought the bike, but not after this kit, No. After these videos were made I decided to return the kit and keep the air filter original.
You should post some links man!
I know.
Hi there, i have a bone stock 2006 yamaha vstar650 classic and i want to know how much i would need to spend to modify the bike like yours?
Maybe a grand or so.

Very uncomfortable for me. After an hour it started to hurt.
